Coming up with a name for your business can be challenging, especially if you have already found yourself thinking about it at all hours of the day and night! I remember coming up with the name for ICE Innovation back in 2007 and it was only once we had created the strategy for it and knew exactly where the business was going that the name jumped out at us and became clear: Innovation, Creativity & Expertise... ICE!
The right business name can make you and your business the talk of the town. It can help you to be remembered for all the right reasons. However, the wrong one give people the wrong impression and make it incredibly challenging to win the kind of business you would love to have. Ideally, you want your business name to position you proudly as the expert of your industry, demonstrating the value and unique qualities of your product or service that make you the leader in what you do.

Hi - thanks for making your video! You raise some good points about how to choose a business name. OK, my problem is that my name is very common. Google Christina Williams, and there are tons of us, including variations of my name. I do freelance graphic design, traditional artwork and animation. The only variation of my name that isn't so common is "Christ Williams", but I'm not interested in infamy! Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
+Christina Williams Sorry for the late reply Christina.. Maybe with the field you are in having a company name with 'Designs' or something of the sort after something.. i.e CW Designs, Your Designs, Williams Designs etc...
Such a subject. It is the 10th video I have watched and it is the third day I am working on it. I loved from you : ' chose a name that talk to your target audience in a emotional way ' . ;-) Still lost thought.
hello, my name is Eduardo, im starting a project that involves a clothing shop that is caracterized by its crazyness, with wood and iron decorations and mad decorations that id rather not explain till they are registered. Anyways, my problem is, that im stuck with the name. Im looking for a long atractive crazy but modern name, something like "KYOTO MADNESS" or "MUNICH". Besides that, I saw a few business' that had the same name, is that legal? Is there any legal problem that involves copying the name of an other brand? Most importantly Im having problems with the name, so if you could help me, i would be hugely greatful, thank you.
Thanks for the video. To start with lemme tell u my name...which is really looong...'Amandeep Singh Multani'...I am an Indian and starting my photography business. I haven't bought a domain name as yet as I am not sure what to choose!! The one I use on FB is "Aman's Picturesque World". It does have my name (I am called Aman) and I kinda like it..it conveys what I feel about my photography! Here in India when I tell people the name of my FB page they get confused as 'Picturesque' isn't a word which people generally hear or use here. I also want to tell you that I'll be moving to Australia soon and am planning to start my photography there.
My question is that should I go ahead with this name..keeping in mind that I would be moving to an English speaking country... or is it not catchy or too long or boring for people to remember/comprehend?? Your advise would be highly appreciated. Thanks. Keep up the good work!!
Hi Mayaaloasif. Thank you for your comment. If you are struggling to create the name for your business, have you already done your keyword research to find out how many people are searching for what you sell? When you know what words people are searching for, you could name your business around that search term so people will find you easily online and you are giving your business a name that people find easy to understand and immediately connect to what you do. Obscure and funky names are all well and good, but you need to spell them out all the time and they may take a bit of explaining. We chose 'How To Build A Brand' because there were so many searches for it. We could have been really creative and called it something funky, but because we are building an online business it was important to us that we call our company something that people search for. Once you've got an idea for your company name, go to http://namechk.com/ to make sure the social media names are available for it and check to make sure the URLs are available too. Et voila!
