This week Reactions gets the scoop on the science behind being drunk. There's a lot of brain chemistry that goes on when you drink from drunkenness, frequent bathroom breaks and occasionally poor decision-making.

Ever wonder why dogs sniff each others' butts? Or how Adderall works? Or whether it's OK to pee in the pool? We've got you covered: Reactions a web series about the chemistry that surrounds you every day.
Reactions is produced by the American Chemical Society.
That feel when I need to drink at least a cup of vodka to feel drunk. I kinda envy light weights but at the same time I don’t because I still have a decent amount of discernment when drunk and know what I can and can’t do no matter how drunk I am and the fact that I can still walk when in drunk unless I drink more than a cup of fucking ever clear.
Wait, it says that fatty things slow down ethanol "consumption" (in the stomach) because they take up lots of space to "consume" and do it long etc.
Then it seems to say that Sugar does the same but fastens the process.
Is it my comprehension skills or did you do a little mistake midway?
I once read that alcohol is supposed to suppress hormones that suppress some actions of us, like spouting some bullshit or doing risky stuff.
HOWEVER, I don't remember the source, it was only one source I read, and I just barely read it.
in this video it says that the neuron connections/transmissions or whatever get slower, thus making you do stuff before thinking it through.
my question : Are these two the same thing or not ?
Been abused by alcoholics since my youth. Stole my innocence to say the least. Best friend was killed by a drunk driver. Never drank in my entire life because of all this. Anyone who gets drunk in my nearest vicinity will pay the price of wishing they never were in my presence. Just speaking from living from the horrors of what alcohol does to people.
that's a myth fed to you by big daddy government. Alcohol is not good for you in any quantity. It's a poison.
All these bullshit studies were funded by the government, which make billions of alcohol taxation.
Tried every alcohol in every quantity in college, and determined it just doesn't affect me like other people. No matter how much or how little I drank, I never got the "enhanced" feeling others drank for. It's a waste of money to get nothing out of it. Would be interesting to see a video on why mind altering substances don't work for everyone.
We always put up closed captioning on our videos and we do want to have more translations, however, we sadly don't have the bandwidth right now. We're hoping we can eventually have captions in multiple languages.
Seeing how the stuff is even carcinogenic and all kinds of useless and dangerous, i wonder when we're gonna see anti-alcohol campaigns and mandatory labels of car crashes and violence victims on bottles and equivalent posters in discos, or separated areas for alcohol users in restaurants... (this is not meant as irony)
I still don't know why alcohol advertisement are not treated same as tobacco products. IE no radio, billboard or TV.... As long as the advertisements continue, encouraging us to find our beach, climb our mountain, and seize the moment (keep in mind children see the ads too, during sporting events, etc) alcohol is staying normalized and becomes a suitable outlet for younger people , especially those in college, to crave as just the next step in social experience. That flirtation with achieving and doing what they've seen on alcohol commercials for 15+ years leads to a large majority of young folk discovering alcohol, and never learning how to live with out it
I have to complain about the part about absorbing less ethanol by eating more foods before you drink.
Why would you not want to get drunk, that's the only reason people drink alcohol, not for the taste.
