In this video, I’m going to show you the fastest way to get your lower abs to pop and the 4 steps you need to take to make sure you don’t get hung up along the way. The first key to a six pack is to make sure that your nutrition is not just decent but great. There is no way to get your lower abs to show year round if you cannot commit to anything more than just a decent diet. Men tend to store the majority of their body fat in their lower bellies. It is often the last to come off when losing body fat and dieting down. This means that unless you are locked in on a consistent, high quality nutrition plan you likely won’t see this area get lean enough to really see your lower abs. Now, the method you choose to get down in the body fat range where seeing the lower abs is possible is up to you. Some will swear by 6 meals a day, others by intermittent fasting, others by keto, etc. Honestly, I don’t care which it is that you follow but you better make sure that whatever you choose it is something that allows you to be consistent with it for the long term. Too many diet plans for 6 pack abs wind up being temporary. You lose weight and body fat enough so that you can see the lower abs for a short period of time but wind up putting it all back on because the diet is not something you can stick with. Don’t let that happen to you. Find something that you can enjoy and you will have found your lower abs for life. Next, we have to address the common mistakes made in how we perform our ab exercises. While the rectus abdominus is a single muscle that contracts all or none, you cannot simply perform top down ab exercises like crunches and expect to get the same level of development as if you performed lower ab exercises. Lower ab exercises are those that move from the bottom up. The key to these exercises is that the added weight of the legs that needs to be overcome on each rep is enough to provide an overload and a stimulation of the type II fibers of the abdominals. When these are activated and trained, the abs will hypertrophy a bit and stand out more making them more visible when body fat levels are low. This leads to the next big ab training mistake however. You have to make sure that you don’t confuse simply moving your legs with effective targeting of the lower abs. In order to train the lower ab muscles the right way you need to focus on moving the pelvis rather than the legs. When the pelvis moves, the legs will come along for the ride naturally due to their connection at the hip joint. Regardless of whether you are doing hanging ab raises or lower ab exercises on the floor, the same key applies. Be sure to posteriorly rotate your pelvis in order to activate the lower abs and stop focusing on simply raising and lowering the legs which is more of a hip flexor dominant movement. Finally, you will want to expand your understanding of the core if you want to get your lower abs to show better. This means, looking to stabilize the pelvis from below by contracting the adductors on every rep of every exercise you can for your bottom most abs. This means just crossing your legs and squeezing them together at the knees on most hanging or seated ab exercises. So here is the blueprint to getting awesome abs. The more popular way that “toned abs” is defined is one that refers to a leaner more visible set of abdominal muscles. This is and always will be achieved through a focus on nutrition. You must lower your level of body fat if you want to see the shape of the muscle underneath. If you want to get muscles that are already developed to show more clearly, you have to improve your diet so that your overlying body fat can be decreased. The thick fatty tissue can obscure even the best set of abs at even 12% body fat or more. In order to really see your abs you need to follow a good nutrition plan that can help you to lower your body fat to at least 10% or less (ideally 7%). That said, there are things that you can do in the gym to help increase ab muscle tone that will have an effect on how your muscles look and feel even at rest. You see, every muscle has a resting level of “tone” in it that determines it’s state of activity or alertness. This degree of muscle activation is not under voluntary control. It is there to help keep the muscle in a constant state of alertness and readiness for action. This type of tone can also protect the joints that the muscles are crossing. For instance, when you get tired you may find that your head starts to bend back as you doze off. You likely then get startled back to being awake as your head snaps back to the upright position. This is a defense mechanism triggered by a stretch reflex in the muscles of the anterior or lateral neck. In order to protect the spine from a compressed state, the muscles and their perceived stretch tension are forced to action at a moments notice. The more tone that is present in a resting muscle, the harder it will look and the more impressive it will be. Think about what happens when you hold your arm out to your side and flex your arm. When unflexed the muscle looks softer and less defined. Contract it just a little bit and you immediately see more definition and hardness. In the gym, you can actually increase your resting level of involuntary muscle tone by training the muscles with stretch loaded techniques and increasing the difficulty level of the exercises. For ab exercises and training, this means selecting hanging bar movements. The ab exercises done from a hanging or pullup bar place more of a stretch on the abs in the eccentrically loaded or stretched position. Additionally, they are harder to perform and therefore require the contribution of much more core muscles in order to do them. The increased contribution of the additional muscles awakens the previously dormant or uncalled upon muscle fibers that weren’t needed for the sub maximal intensity exercises and leads to an overall increase in resting tone. Over time, especially when combined with a good diet and nutrition plan, leads to much more visible and hard looking abs at rest. In this video, I’m going to show you a single ab workout routine that you can do for the next 22 days straight that is going to help to carve up that midsection of yours and give you a jump start on getting your abs to pop year round. There are just 6 exercises in this ab workout, each one hitting the abs from one of their primary functions. No equipment is required to perform this ab workout routine. Because of this fact, there are no excuses either. You will be able to do this workout for your abs in just minutes and you won’t need any elaborate setup to get it done. It can be done in the comfort of your own home or in the gym if you so choose. The key to this ab workout plan is that you perform it for 22 days straight. There are two reasons for this time period. First, it gives you an opportunity to start seeing noticeable changes in your abs particularly if you pair this with a dedicated effort to improve your nutrition. You will never be able to see your abs if they are covered in fat. You need to start getting serious about your diet and eating if you want to strip away the fat and show the results of your hard work and effort. The second reason for doing this for 22 days is to help this become part of your lifestyle. They say it takes 22 days of doing something for it to become a habit. We are going to try and create a positive habit here by getting you used to training your abs. Don’t worry. The abs are a resilient postural muscle group that is built for high volume and frequent training sessions. The exercises in this ab workout follow a specific sequence. They start with those that target the lower abs using bottom up movements. These are where the top of the body from the waist up stays rather stationary while the bottom does the movement. This can be seen in the heels to the heavens exercise. Next you perform a bottom up rotation movement. This one is going to be filled by the step through planks. Here you want to try and keep your upper torso still again while you create rotation from the bottom using your legs to step through and across your body. You will be able to feel this burn almost from the first few reps. Keep going until you reach the extinction time as described in the video. Move on next to the midrange movement known as the “X” man crunch. This is a great way to bring both the top to the bottom and the bottom to the top. Aim for completing the 12 reps that are suggested for extinction on this ab exercise and move onto the final three exercises. These will hit the obliques, top down movements and top down with rotation. You will see that this is not going to take very long. The benefit and power of this ab workout is that it is hitting the abs and obliques from every angle and in each of the 6 primary ways of hitting them. Best LOWER ABS Exercise You’ve NEVER Tried!

That said, many of these are performed while hanging from a bar which makes them too difficult for beginners and even leads to the forearms fatiguing before the abs on even the most advanced trainees. In this video, I’m going to show you the best lower abs exercise you’ve likely never tried and it doesn’t even require you hang from a bar. While we are talking about those hanging ab exercises however, here is why they tend to be a problem. Most often, the person doing the exercise tends to become over reliant on the hip flexors to lift the legs rather than using the abs to curl the pelvis into a posterior tilt on every rep. This can happen either by bad habit or as a compensation for weak abs. Either way, this takes the tension off of the abs and places it on a muscle group that is likely already tight and overactive. The next option is to perform these same bottom up movements but instead of hanging, you lay on the floor. The issue here is once again the hip flexors can tend to dominate the movement and cause the same detrimental effects mentioned already. Even more, the legs stop becoming a factor in the resistance of the exercise and actually help you to do the move as you get them past ninety degrees of lift. The good news is, the best lower abs exercise you can do doesn’t require you to have to hang from a bar or lay on your back. All it requires is a dip station or even the corner of a kitchen countertop. If you are going to perform it from a dip station all you have to do is position yourself in the suspended position with your hands on the dip bars and your elbows almost locked out. You don’t want to bend the elbows too much here or at any point during the exercise since this will shift the focus from the abs to the triceps and cause you to fatigue where you don’t want to. With the bodyweight supported you will actually find that you get a beneficial compressive force into the shoulder joint that can make an unstable shoulder feel much better. The hanging ab exercises while awesome for the lower abs can make it tough on the shoulder of someone that has a rotator cuff or labrum tear. Next, you let the pelvis drop naturally by dangling the legs. This will help to decompress the spine and cause a distraction force to the lumbar spine and lower back that can help alleviate any discomfort you may have developed from doing lots of hip flexor dominant lower ab movements over the years. Begin by simply bouncing your body up and down while alternating the twist of your torso as you pull up. Your main thought should be driving the movement with the posterior tilt of the pelvis and not the arms. This will engage the lower abs while at the same time, getting the obliques to fire up with each rotation left to right. Keep doing this in rapid fire fashion for 30 to 60 seconds or until fatigue prevents you from performing clean reps. If you have never tried this one then you are in for a surprise. You will see how much easier it is to influence the lower abs without having to resort to the hanging ab exercises that tend to cause fatigue elsewhere before the location that you are actually trying to hit. In this video, I share with you a three phase plan for losing fat in the abdomen, love handles or waistline area, and the chest. These spots are where most men carry their fat and are the last to lose it when dieting or trying to cut down. The reason for this is actually based on our genetics, but it doesn’t mean that we cannot do something about it. You may even have developed muscles underneath, but as long as the fat is present you will never get a chance to see what it looks like. This means that your priority has to be on cleaning up your nutrition. If you refuse to eat better, no matter what else you do, you will never look better. Early on however, you don’t have to get too specific with your eating. Simply make a pass through your diet and get rid of the obvious garbage that you know is not helping your cause. Sweets, excessive alcohol, sugars, etc can all be removed and replaced with more nutritious foods. You don’t have to necessarily worry about your macros at this point but just getting rid of the junk food and liquid calories. Realizing that it will take some time to see the results of these changes however, you should start chipping away at the trouble spots in another way. For the abdomen, you want to first ensure that you can properly activate the muscles in the rectus and transverse abdominis. Most find this difficult and even when they do perform ab exercises they get frustrated at not being able to feel them. Next, you want to start adding in ab training but mostly in the form of rotational ab exercises. Instead of trying to do crunches and having the fat get in the way of the movement, you can work your abs without having to crunch. Finally, you want to incorporate moves for your entire core, such as with the 7 minute ab workout included above. When it comes to the love handles, you want to start by working the lats. Here especially, you want to focus on full contractions and range of motion to ensure proper development of the muscles that actually insert onto the top of the pelvis near your waistline. The more you can build these muscles the greater the visual differential between your waist and your shoulders and the better the v taper. Next add in direct ab work and finish up with direct oblique training for the best look as your diet gets dialed in. Finally, for the chest you want to stretch it and strengthen the muscles of the rotator cuff to posturally improve the visual appearance of your chest. From here, work the serratus anterior. This will give your chest more natural underlying support will helping to visually chisel out the area underneath. Finally, you want to make sure that as your body fat levels decrease and fat loss continues that you are working your chest in all three heads. Use the angles of the band work as an example of how to hit the upper, lower and middle chest. You’d be right. That said, getting abs still remains rather elusive to many and certainly being able to maintain them year round is even harder. Not any more. In this video, I show you a 5 step plan for how to get a 6 pack that you can use to start getting your abs to show fast. Despite the fact that many are aware of the importance of proper nutrition when it comes to getting abs, it is still a mighty struggle to get them. It usually comes down to the methods those people are using to try and get them in the first place. Crash diet plans and temporary deprivation based tactics are not going to cut it long term if you want to get and keep your abs. Anything that forces you to feel as if you’re missing out or be deprived of what you really want is only going to be a temporary solution at best. As soon as you get tired of not having what you want, you’ll quickly give in and lose your ability to keep your hard earned abs. That said, the 5 step formula for getting a 6 pack starts with cutting out the obvious crap foods from your diet. You should know pretty quickly what these are. It’s the cakes, sweets, alcohol, fatty salad dressings, etc that just scream problems the minute you eat them. You know what they are and that means you know they should be gone, so do it. There’s never been a better time than now to start making the changes that are going to dramatically help you in your pursuit of your abs. Next step is to start eating more often. Yep, despite what keyboard scientists who read a few articles on google scholar want you to believe, there are far more important reasons to be eating more frequently throughout the day than whether or not this is maximally anabolic. I cover these for you in the video. Next up, you’re going to want to take another pass through that diet of yours. On this second time through, you’re going to want to remove the less obvious items that aren’t helping you as best they can to get your 6 pack abs. For me, I lay out three perfect examples. I thought these foods were healthy but I was only partially right. How they were being prepared was making all the difference in me seeing my abs consistently…or not. Moving on, you now want to eat more of the good foods you swapped in. This helps you to maintain and continue to build new muscle. Too often, people who take out the offending foods will free up many calories in their diet. If you don’t replace them with good foods you’ll likely wind up not supporting your muscle growth and be skinny without enough muscle mass. RIPPED ABS - Beginner Ab Workout (5 Minutes!)

If you are a beginner and want to get ripped abs you need to do two very important things. The first is you need to train your abs the right way and not just throw together a few random ab exercises. The second is you need to get your body fat down low enough to see the results of your hard work, and this happens through a commitment to good nutrition. In this video, I’m going to show you a perfect ab workout for beginners that will take just 5 minutes to complete. Each of the five movements shown here is to be performed for one minute apiece. If you find that you need to rest at any time, you may do so. The goal is ultimately for you to be able to perform this 5 minute ab workout without needing to stop and rest at all. The first thing you will notice is that none of the exercises in this ab workout require any equipment at all. I want to be sure that everyone can give this a try. The only thing you will need to have access to is somewhere to hook your feet. As you will see however, you do not want to hook your feet under something to perform your situps, but rather over something so you can pull back and activate your hamstrings. To begin, lay on the floor with a phone timer or stopwatch nearby. You will start your clock when you begin your first exercise called the laying halos. This is a great lower ab exercise that employs time under tension in the most difficult portion of the exercise (the lift) when your abs are most engaged. Try to perform 30 seconds of this with your feet moving in a clockwise direction and 30 seconds with them moving in a counterclockwise diretion. Next, you stick with the lower abs but start to incorporate more of the obliques with an exercise called the reverse corkscrew. This involves simply curling your pelvis off the floor and twisting your butt towards the right or left (being sure to alternate on each rep). The twisting of the pelvis engages the obliques, while the lifting of it off the ground is what activates the lower fibers of the abs more directly. Keep the beginner ab workout going by moving onto what we call our midrange movement. Here you are getting equal activation from the top down as you are from the bottom up. This is a pendulum reach out plank. The idea here is that it takes a boring static plank and adds more difficulty and dynamic movement to it without sacrificing the stability benefit that it provides. Step one foot out to the side and then the other, followed by a reach out in front of your body with one hand and then the other. Continue alternating these steps one after the next for the entire 60 seconds. Next, we perform a variation of the ab scissor exercise called the chainsaw. This is still involving a fluttering of the legs with them held off the ground to activate the lower abs, but it also employs rotation from the bottom up. The additional rotation will help once again to attack the obliques and turn this into a brutal but effective beginner ab exercise. Finally, the situp roll ups is a great upper ab exercise that is initiated from the top down. This tends to be a stronger movement than does the lower ab exercise options, which is why it finds itself positioned at the end of the workout when you still have some energy. The key is to hook the feet over and not under something to disengage the hip flexors and activate the hamstrings. This will have the effect of decreasing the overactivation of the hip flexors which can cause back pain. Also, you want to slowly roll your trunk off the floor once vertebra at a time and paint it back down the same way. This will ensure good eccentric control of the abs and further protetion of the spine. Here I will break down for you everything you need to know about getting a six pack fast and how to construct your ab workouts in order to waste no time in doing so. It starts with the anatomy of the abdominal muscles and realizing that a complete core is not just the abs. You need to hit a few other key muscles if you want to get your core to look the best it can. Before getting into the anatomy of the core muscles however you always need to first question the quality of your nutrition. There is nothing that is going to give you a six pack unless your body fat is low enough to show what you have worked for. Not even hours of cardio are likely helpful enough to getting you to a body fat goal low enough to reveal a shredded core. Your nutrition is and always will be paramount to getting a low body fat that is capable of showing visible abs in any light. That said, back to the muscles that make up the complete step by step ab picture. You want to focus not only on the obvious rectus abdominus muscle but also realize that there are two main ways to hit it. You can influence the lower abdominal fibers more with bottom up movements that initiate the movement of the spine with the pelvis being moved towards the head. Vice versa, you can hit the upper fibers a bit more effectively when the shoulders are moved towards the pelvis. Either way, exercise selection is going to matter here as well as the method in which you are performing the exercises and the equipment you use (or forget to) that will take you to another level in ab development. On that end, many people forget that the ab muscles have a contribution of type II muscle fibers as well. This means that they respond well to explosive training and can hypertrophy with the right weighted exercises. Many people shy away from these thinking that it is going to give them a bulky midsection but that is not the case. Instead, it is going to help you to get blockier abs that stand out more than those that never include this type of training. Performing your reps explosively like Steelers All Pro wide receiver Antonio Brown is doing in this video is another key to getting abs that stand at attention in any light. Next you need to be sure you are focusing on including exercises for your obliques and serratus. These muscles run on a diagonal angle which suggests their high importance in the rotational ab exercises that you should be doing. Many options for hitting these muscles are included in this video but just be sure you are doing some of them since you can’t overlook these when it comes to the overall picture of getting a ripped midsection. The transverse abdominus is also an area that you want to focus your efforts on if you want to keep a flat belly and good muscle control of your lower abs. It is easier to activate if you understand the concept of proper breathing with your ab exercises. You want to be sure that you are exhaling or breathing out but cinching your stomach muscles down (not pushing them out) if you want to develop these muscles properly without causing your ab muscles to protrude or bloat. All of these things are important when it comes to getting ripped abs, you just have to have a game plan for doing it. If not, then you could be missing out on a great way to etch in those deeper, more chiseled looking abs by not training your abdominals with enough resistance. Weighted ab workouts, like this one with dumbbells, can provide a great way to overload your abs and help get you out of the core training rut you might find yourself right now. To perform this ab workout, you will need a couple of sets of dumbbells. Start with a set that will be challenging for you to complete the ten reps required of you in each exercise, without it being too heavy that you cannot perform the moves in good form. Once you have identified this weight, drop down by five pounds each time and choose 3 more sets of dumbbells. You should have a total of 4 pairs of weights. Note, if your starting weight is such that you cannot select four pairs of dumbbells that is ok. You can complete your final sets using just your bodyweight. To begin, sit down and grab the heaviest pair of dumbbells. Perform a weighted Russian Twist with both dumbbells crossing over to one side and then the other. The key is to keep your abs tight and your core engaged to prevent overrotation or uncontrolled rotation. This is one of the most important functions of the abs and one that is sure to be tested by this first exercise. Complete 10 reps to each side and immediately move onto the next exercise in the workout. Next is the weighted Otis Up. In this ab exercise, you will lie flat on your back with the dumbbells extended overhead as if doing a bench press. In one move, you will sit up and keep the weights directed at the ceiling the entire time. Once you reach the full sit-up, slowly lower yourself back down to the floor with your abs eccentrically contracting to control the descent. Perform 10 reps of this move and proceed immediately to the next exercise in the workout. Next up is the single arm dumbbell rollout. This is a great exercise that challenges your abs eccentrically once again. Rest on one forearm and hold the dumbbell with the opposite hand. Roll the dumbbell away from you as you work to keep your abs tight and engaged the whole way out. Perform ten reps on each arm and proceed to the final exercise in this ab workout. Finally, wrap up this ab workout with dumbbells by getting into position to perform a one arm renegade row. In the pushup position and with a dumbbell in each hand, row each arm ten times making sure not to over rotate your torso as you pull the weight up. Perform on both sides. This is just the first round of this brutal ab workout however. From here, keep your rest to a minimum and grab the next set of dumbbells in line and repeat. The Secret to "Boxer" Abs (FULL WORKOUT!)

In this video, I’m going to show you the secret behind their training that allows them to look amazing and how you can incorporate the same into one simple ab workout to get your core looking incredible as well. It starts with looking at some popular punch throwers, the essence of boxing. Here I showcase Bruce Lee (perhaps one of the hardest punchers of all time), Manny Pacquiao and Rocky Balboa himself, Sylvester Stallone. All three of these guys have awesome looking abs. That said, there is much more to the story than just their abs. Watch as I remove the serratus anterior from the equation and see how drastically different their midsections look when I do. This is because the serratus is one of the most critical muscles to the overall look and development of the core. The best part about it? It is very easy to engage when you know how to do it properly. I show you the best way to do it and give you five exercises that you can put into one ab workout that will hit your rectus abdominus, obliques and serratus all in one shot. The activation of the serratus allows us to protract our shoulders and get our shoulder blades to not just wrap around our torso but to stay closely intact with the ribcage when doing so. Many people that suffer from scapular winging have a weakness in the serratus anterior that is preventing them from stabilizing the shoulder blade with forward arm movement. The muscle also helps in elevation of the arm overhead. In order to do this you need to have upward rotation of the scapula. This is once again where the serratus comes in to help other muscles in the process of doing this without a hitch. We can hit this muscle very well if we figure out ways to protract the arm against resistance and of course include a heavy dose of ab work by picking the right exercises that allow us to light them up as well. The first of these exercises is called the plank up. Instead of just passively resting on our forearms on the floor you want to actively press your forearms down to lift your body up and back. This will protract your shoulder blades and instantly activate your serratus. The plank position itself of course will fire up the abs. Next we have the serratus anterior rollouts. If you have been watching this channel for any length of time you know that I love the ab wheel as an ab training device. Many people use it incorrectly however. You want to be sure that you are protracting your shoulder blades first and maintaining them throughout the rollout on every rep to get the serratus involved here as well and making it a killer exercise combo. No boxing workout would be complete without a little punching. You can do a resisted serratus punch with the band anchored behind you. Make sure you reach out as far as you can, and then go even further! Keep your feet positioned as I show you in order to narrow your base of support and make the core and abs work harder than ever. The screwdriver core exercise is a great variation on a dip in which you actually will never perform a dip. Instead you’ll lift your pelvis into a posterior pelvic tilt to activate your abs. Push through your hands on every rep to lift your body and round your shoulder blades around your ribcage and you will fire up the serratus anterior yet again. The extra rotation of the pelvis will get the obliques going here as well. Finally, the crunch pulldown is a popular ab exercise that can be easily modified to involve the serratus as well just by altering the position of your body in relation to the rope. Press the rope away from you to turn this one into a killer option to finish out this great abs and core workout. Naming the best ab exercise ever can be tough for sure. That said, in this video, I didn’t just name the best abs exercise but I provide the reasons for why I feel so. By the time you are done watching, you will have a new weapon in your ab arsenal that you should be able to do and feel the benefits of, very quickly. To start, this abs exercise is a ground based movement. It is a closed chain abs movement. What that means is that your hands and feet are in contact with the ground throughout rather than having one or the other floating in the air. A hanging ab raise, while an awesome abs exercise, is not closed chain since the legs never make or keep contact with the floor. Next, this exercise is scalable. This is important since it not only allows for everyone to do some variation of it (based on their ability level) but more importantly it gives everyone options for progression as they get stronger. Too many ab exercises are what I call “one-way”. You can either do them or you can’t. If you can, they get so easy that you wind up doing so many reps that you lose the effectiveness of the ab exercise. Not this one. Here I show you how to change the movement just slightly and keep the challenge coming. Moving on, this ab workout option addresses the most important responsibility of your abs and core - stability. You see, ab strength is not of paramount importance when you are training your abs. Having abs that are incredibly stable is much more so. Strength would be the ability of your abs to generate motion of the spine (like in a weighted crunch) against the force of heavy weight. Stability would be the ability of the abs to prevent motion of the spine against the force of momentum and torque exerted upon them. This particular abs exercise does this perhaps better than any other. Not to mention, it also has the benefit of allowing you to hit multiple core muscles at the same time rather than in isolation. When it comes to abs and core exercises, you really want to try and get your muscles to work together as they will in real world function. The often underworked lower ab and bottom up rotational movements are front and center in this variation. For all of those reasons, I nominate this as the winner in the best ab exercise category. Sure, others sill have their favorites as well. Anyone that will tell you that is likely selling you a “shortcut” and isn’t qualified to be giving you workout advice (even if it is free) In this video, I show you how to stop that bloated abs look by learning how to breathe properly during your ab workouts. While you should exhale on the exertion of any ab exercise, you don’t want to blow out (meaning, allowing your belly to protrude or extend during the exhale). Instead, you want to be sure that you cinch your belly down as you exhale. This will feel a bit awkward if you are not used to it but you will learn how to engage your transverse abdominus and get better a flatter stomach as a result. This becomes more difficult depending on the difficulty of the ab exercise in question. For instance, on a basic crunch (as shown in the video) you will find that you will have much better control of your abs and will be able to learn this skill a little faster. Once you have it, transfer it to harder and harder ab exercises and see if you can still maintain that correct breathing. But that’s only half of the equation. Others will tell you that if you want to avoid a thick waist or blocky abs you should not train your obliques. They will say that thickened oblique muscles will give you a blockier torso and not allow you to have a trim waistline. That is bad advice. If you want to have a tapered looking set of abs you will have to train your obliques. The orientation of the muscles is such that it will give you the visual tapering effect that you want to frame in your six pack abs. That said, all of this is nullified by an inattention to your diet and nutrition plan. If you insist on eating bad foods and don’t pay attention to what you eat then you will never have low enough body fat to help you see your abs. This applies to your obliques as well. How to Lose Fat the Right Way (MEN VS WOMEN!)

When it comes to how to lose fat, there are some differences between men and women, and it goes beyond the simps differences in how we store it. In this video we look at how to lose fat, the right way, for men VS women. As you probably already know, men and women have different trouble spots when it comes to where they store fat. We’ll not only look at how men and women differ in terms of fat storage but we’ll also uncover several strategies that address the challenges that each face in their pursuit of fat loss. For men, trouble spots tend to be in the chest. Chest fat, or man boobs start to develop when men are carrying too much body fat. The waist line or Love Handles is another trouble spot. Perhaps the most notable trouble spot is in the mid section or beer belly. Even in examples of significant leanness men will store fat deposits in very specific areas of their mid section such as their lower abdominals and lower back. For women, the fat loss trouble differ. Fat deposits on the backs of the arms creating’bat wings’. Women also experience more fat storage in their lower bodies; hips, thighs and calves. You’ve probably heard the terms saddlebags, cankles or muffin top to describe these trouble spot. This is evident in women who appear to be skinny or skinny fat, you’ll see that the areas mentioned above often show signs of extra fat deposited. Many of the differences in where fat is stored come down to hormones, specifically Testosterone and Estrogen. Men and women don’t only have different trouble spots however, they also have different types of fat storage as well. Testosterone often creates more visceral fat. That is, fat stored behind the muscle sounding the organs. Classic examples of this type of fat are men that have a rock hard protruding beer gut. This is caused by the fat actually pushing out against the layer of abdominal muscle. Since visceral fat surrounds the vital organs, this type of fat is more dangerous. Typically we see higher cases of heart disease in men often caused by their increased storage of visceral fat. Women on the other hand have more subcutaneous fat. Subcutaneous fat is often driven by the binding of estrogen. While this type of fat is less dangerous than visceral fat it can still be troublesome and if you have it, you likely want it gone! When it comes to strategies for losing fat the recommendation for women is to focus on exercises, specifically strength training over steady state cardio. Strength training will allow women to add muscle to their frames which is not only anabolic in itself, but will also help increase their existing levels of testosterone which will also help aid in fat loss. For men, the focus should almost always be on nutrition. Since men have larger amounts of testosterone already, and likely carry more muscle mass as a result, they will generally want to focus on getting their eating in check. This will help lower their body fat especially when done in conjunction with a smart exercise program. In addition to the tips above regarding fat loss through proper nutrition and exercise, you can also try incorporating some of mother natures secret ingredients. Foods like Oysters for additional Zinc, Red Grapes for Resveratrol, cruciferous vegetables for their high levels of phytochemicals. Other excellent foods to incorporate are mushrooms and fresh ginger. Well, even if your enthusiasm is there I’m going to show you how to determine if you can get an 8 pack or whether your sights should be set on six pack abs or maybe even 4 pack abs instead. There is a quick test that I’m going to reveal in this video that you can do to determine the genetics of your anatomy and find out what your abs will look like if your body fat is low enough to see them. First thing is to assess your current level of body fat. If you are carrying a lot of body fat around your waist at the moment (not just a little bit that is hiding your abs) but enough that you would consider yourself too fat to see any ab definition at all then you probably won’t gain much from this test. If you are under 20-25 percent body fat this will work. To start, stand up and grab as much of the fat and skin that you can around the area of your belly button. Make sure to point your fingers inward when you do this. Once you’ve grabbed hold of this, pull it outward. Contract your muscles underneath your skin and fat and you will notice that they pull away from this tissue and make it easier for you to distinguish the pure muscle below. From here, use your pointed fingers to “strum” up and down on the rectus abdominus muscle below. Make sure your fingers are below your belly button when you are doing this. If you can feel a line at the level of the belly button then you can develop a solid six pack as the connective tissue band that runs from the linea alba is present and dividing your abs in such a way so that you can have six separate areas if the body fat is low enough. From here, move your fingers lower and see if you can strum or palpate another horizontal band of connective tissue. If you can, then you have the genetics capable of developing an 8 pack. Now, as I illustrate here, I do not have and cannot develop 8 pack abs. I simply do not have the genetics for them despite my very low levels of body fat. You may find this to be the case as well, but so what? Never let yourself be discouraged by meaningless tests like this since there are so many other things you can do to make whatever abs you do have look amazing. Firstly, you can work to develop your obliques. This will visually give you a tapered and framed out midsection making them instantly look better regardless of whether you have a 4 pack, 6 pack or 8 pack abs. The next thing you can do is make sure you add weighted ab work to your ab routines. As you hypertrophy your abdominal muscles they will stand out more and help to make the cuts become more visibly deep in the process. Finally, you can work on training the transverse abdominis muscle which will help to compress the connective tissue of the rectus which can improve the visibility of the abs anatomy that you do have. The bottom line is, we all have abs and can make them look better by training them the right way and by following a nutrition plan that enables you to keep them year round. That said, provided you have a solid meal plan and the right ab exercises to target the lower abs the way they are meant to be trained, you can definitely get them to show! The reason these three ab exercises were selected was due to the fact that in order to really target the core correctly you absolutely have to include movements that don't isolate the rectus abdominus but rather integrate the rectus with the other muscles of the stomach (the internal obliques, external obliques, and transverse abdominus). The famous v-cut or adonis belt is formed by the effect of the obliques attaching to the inguinal ligament and the transverse abdominus pushing up from underneath. The combination of these ab and core muscles acting this way helps to make the v-cut lower abs much more prominent (especially the lower your belly fat is). So, in order to activate these abs muscles more you have to be sure to include movements that simultaneously flex the spine and rotates it. Lower Ab Exercise Mistakes (REVERSE CRUNCH!)

It is also one of the more effective lower abs moves since it works your abs from the bottom up. That said, if you are making any of the common mistakes shown in this video, you are costing yourself the best chance to get your lower abs to pop despite your hard work. I show you the three most common mistakes made in most lower ab exercises. The key to seeing fast results from your ab workouts is to correct or avoid all together, each of these core crushing missteps. The first mistake is to take your legs too far on the reverse crunch. When you allow your legs and feet to go past the vertical, you’re actually letting gravity help you perform the exercise instead of making it more difficult. You may think that this allows you to perform more reps of this killer lower abs exercise but so what? What good are extra reps if you are cheating yourself on the benefits that you’re getting from them by doing them in poor form. If you want to get the most out of this movement you have to try and stop the legs as soon as they reach a point where they are perpendicular to the ground. From here, you want to drive your feet straight up towards the ceiling by lifting your pelvis up off the ground. Try not to use your hands too much to do this. Instead, focus on the force of the lower ab contraction to help press your feet upwards and your hips off the ground. The next mistake is adding too much momentum to the move. With your tailbone forming a rocking chair for you to swing your legs back and forth, it becomes temptingly easy for you to allow too much momentum to take over and in doing so, shut down the work being done by your abs. If you want to get the most out of your reverse crunches and all lower ab exercises you want to be sure that you are contracting your way through every rep. Slow down your reps and go for quality over quantity every time. Finally, shortening the effective length of your legs is a big mistake on reverse leg lifts and crunches. When you do this on the way down you are lightening the tension on your abs. By doing this, you are shortening the amount of leg exposed to the force of gravity and therefore making the exercise lighter so to speak. If you want to get more out of it, you’ll be sure to contract your quads to keep your legs at their longest as you lower down. For even more of a challenge you would try not to let your legs drop down all the way. Instead, fight the tendency to let them drop and instead try and reverse the motion just at the point when the eccentric is at its greatest. Contract hard and go back up to another contraction for an extra challenge. But the first thing you must do when trying to get your abs lean is lower your overall body fat. There is no such thing as spot reduction so if you're hoping for this workout to burn fat off your abs, it's not going to happen. But if your body fat is low already and you're trying to build muscle on your obliques to get that "V" cut appearance. Try out these exercises with 30 seconds rest between each one for as many rounds as you can. 1. Spiderman Plank Crunch - Roll your shoulders out to stabilize your body, keep your body in a straight line and drive one knee outward and up to your elbow while crunching at the midsection. To make this harder, you can implement a pushup with the crunch. 2. Rotating Leg Lift Extensions - Starting position is with your back on the ground and legs up towards the ceiling. Once here, you will bring your butt/lower back off the ground by extending your legs towards the ceiling.. But while you do this, make sure you are implementing the twist of your hips otherwise it will only target lower abs and not obliques. 3. Floor Wipers - Starting in the same position as the leg lift extensions except with your arms out to the side for shoulder stabilization. From there, you will lower your legs down to one side until your feet are about 2 inches off the ground and you will bring your legs back up to starting position. Make sure you are focusing on engaging your obliques here and not using your upper body to power your leg movement. 4. Bicycles - Lay on your back with your legs out straight, your hands behind your head and your elbows out to the side. From here you will bring one knee up and one elbow down to meet that knee. What you want to focus on here is the twisting and crunching of your ABS! Imagine as if you are trying to get your shoulder to touch your knee so that you're not cheating your way through the exercise. Whether it be other men they want to look good for, or simply just want to look good for themselves, this is sure to help. With that said, here’s the countdown of the 5 most desired muscle groups (as reported by women in an online poll) and the best exercises for men to do for each one. 5. Shoulders Wider shoulders help to create the V-taper and improve the appearance of a man even when wearing a shirt. There is no better exercise for building the medial deltoid than the side dumbbell raise. Lower the weight slightly and perform these in 1 1/2 rep style to accentuate the contraction of the delt and build your shoulders faster. 4. Biceps Having impressive biceps sticking out of your shirt sleeves signifies that you are serious about your body. The barbell curl is a great way to build up your biceps, however I show you a slight cheat to add as well that will help you to add more size. Be careful not to overdo the cheat however as you don’t want to take away all of the benefits of the exercise. 3. Chest Of course the chest was going to be on this poll right? In order to build your pecs, you’ll want to perform a version of the bench press. The underhand grip bench press is great because it activates the upper fibers of the chest even more than an incline bench press does while allowing you to perform the exercise in a better, safer shoulder position. For those that have shoulder discomfort with the regular bench press, this has an added benefit. 2. Abs No doubt a killer set of six pack abs is high on the list. To best get them, include a hanging ab exercise to intensify your ab training. Incorporate rotation into the move so you can additionally hit the obliques. Sharpening the obliques helps to visually improve the tapering of your waist, even if you tend to have a blockier waist. The hanging clock exercise is perfect for all of these reasons. 1. Glutes As somewhat of a surprise number one, the glutes are tops on the list of muscles women would like to see their men develop. As always with leg training, you want to train athletically. The sprinter lunge is a perfect opportunity to kill two birds with one stone. Leaning forward at the waist ignites the glutes and posterior chain much more than the quads. What ab exercises should you never skip? Find out in the program http://athleanx.com/x/step-by-step-abs Knowing how often to work out your abs is just as important as knowing which ab exercises you should be doing! The problem is, there is a lot of confusion as to what the right ab workout frequency is. In this video I tell you not only how many days a week I think you should be doing ab work, but more importantly, five reasons why. Some people suggest that you train your abs just like any other muscle group, no more than one or two times a week. Others believe that the abs require higher frequency training due to their muscle fiber composition, I would be one of them. But that's not the only reason as you'll see in this video. One of the biggest arguments for frequent ab training is the crucial role they play in providing core support to the spine. As primarily postural muscles, the abdominals must be ready and able to fire consistently and without fail. If you think that training them once or twice a week is going to challenge them to improve, or even prepare them for the job they have...you are sadly mistaken. Seven days a week ab training is my personal recommendation. That said, before you think that means you have to start doing ab workouts every single day, not so fast. The abs can be worked either directly or indirectly.
