Interior Design Styles: Art Deco
If you’re in the early stages of redesigning a specific room, or even the entire house, House Tipster says that choosing an interior design style to guide your inspiration will help you to create a cohesive theme. The bold geometry and decadent details of the Art Deco style is perfect to give your home a signature aesthetic focused around eye-catching luxury. Art Deco first appeared in France and flourished throughout the antebellum period between World War I and II. The introduction of innovative industry and technology in the Roaring 20s paved the way for a new bold and flashy style. Breaking away from the emphasized curves, plant inspired motifs, and organic forms of the Art Nouveau period; Art Deco incorporates gallant geometric shapes, symmetry, and lavish ornamentation to evoke Hollywood glamor. Some of the most iconic Art Deco installations are the Chrysler Building and Rockefeller Center in New York City. Many contemporary hotels and urban lofts feature this style as well. So, how exactly can you incorporate Art Deco into your interior design? First add strong shapes, such as spheres, rectangles, zigzags, and chevrons. Keeping a consistent theme of shapes through each room will establish the symmetrical tendencies of Art Deco designers. Signature materials to incorporate include, aluminum, stainless steel, chrome, stained glass, and gold. Exotic items like zebra skin, Ancient Egypt-influenced art and furniture, and Pop Art will give your room the right motifs. Since Art Deco is minimalist in nature, design with a neutral color pallet. Include shades of black, brown, gray, and white accented with bold colors like red, green, and gold. When choosing furniture, focus on industrial materials and highly lacquered wood pieces. Velour material is commonly used to make rigid structures appear more comfortable and inviting. Floor lamps, table lamps, and ceiling lights constructed from striking shapes and materials will be captivating focal points for your design. Adding similar mirrors, paintings, or retro antiques will help to complete your Art Deco masterpiece. Designing with Art Deco is a fantastic way to give your space an exuberant design to match your stylish personality. For more videos about other interior design styles, follow the links below. ART DECO Style Bathroom Design (Pictures)
Art deco bathroom style guide With recent films such as The Great Gatsby and period dramas like Downton Abbey, the interest in style from the early 20th Century is stronger than ever. In particular, art deco is a style that is luxurious and never seems to go out of fashion. What is art deco? Art deco is a style which came to prominence in the 1920s and 30s. The main features being bold, geometric shapes and strong colours. The great thing about art deco is that, although it is a design from the early part of the 20th Century, individual touches can be added to make the feel as modern or retro as you like. If you want to find out more about art deco as a style, why not take a look at our handy, bite-size infographic? How to create an art deco bathroom Art deco works superbly when it comes to bathroom design, with the monochrome colours of black and white proving a popular choice. However, you don’t need to be restricted to just these – any combination of bold colours such as red and silver, dark blue and white or green and gold, all work well. You could even add colour accents through accessories such as towels or furnishings. If you’re looking to replace your whole bathroom suite, the angular shapes of art deco styles are often represented in modern bathroom furniture and fittings. Look for pedestal basins, toilets or bathroom suites that are square or angular in shape, such as the Vermont Range. Even contemporary style basins can embody art deco style. Pay attention to the style of taps you choose too – look for angular or rectangular designs, such as Cubik Taps, which add a glam, luxury feel. At the heart of the art deco style are geometric designs and bold patterns and both of these are widely available and ideal for tiles, walls and flooring. Classic black and white tiles, used either on the floor or wall, can be simple and relatively inexpensive. Sticking to wall tiles in essential areas, such as around the basin, bath or shower, is an economical way of adding tiled finishes to your bathroom. For a bit of glitz, add a few metallic or shiny mosaic tiles. With a small budget in mind, paint the remaining walls. If you love geometric designs, look out for bathroom wallpapers. There are lots of gorgeous geometric wallpapers available; just remember to pick a design suitable for use in a bathroom. For a stunning feature, paper one wall only. Bring your art deco bathroom together by adding finishing touches in the form of bathroom accessories. A wall mirror or two are essential in a bathroom and can help add light into a small room, or a bathroom without natural light. Look for bevelled mirrors with a luxury, glitzy finish, or a simple angular mirror. In terms of materials, items including frosted glass and chrome were popular in the art deco period. Choose chrome or frosted glass accessories, such as a toothbrush, soap holder, towel hook or robe hook. Even your finishing touches can make a big difference. Best colours Monochrome and subtle colour palettes are best to use here: • Bold black and white • Soft greens and oyster creams • Pastels including pink, blue, green and yellow Key features Art deco can be as traditional or modern as you like it, but some of the basic elements of the style are: • Geometric and angular patterns combined with bold curves • Exotic materials and linear decoration • No fussiness or romance • Black and white tiling • Chrome fittings, silver framed mirrors and bold coloured towels sources https://victoriaplum.com/blog/posts/art-deco-bathroom-style-guide http://photos.hgtv.com/rooms/viewer/bathroom/art-deco check also https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLxWEt16s9HiHopgvd7mjfxEwiP3K1n6bA

Comfortable Living Room Design in Art Deco Style
An Art Deco Interior Design Guide BY LAUREN FLANAGAN The Art Deco period was very popular in America and Europe in the 1920s and 1930s, a stark contrast to the more minimalist, nature-inspired Art Nouveau that preceded it. Like Art Nouveau, Art Deco affected all areas of the decorative arts and was considered very glamorous, elegant, functional, and modern. It quickly became a popular style of interior decorating as well as making its influence felt in architecture, fashion, and even car design. In interior decor, much like in architecture, the Art Deco style was all about making a big statement. Bold geometric patterns with hard angles and a clear preference for symmetry in design all symbolized the wave of an industry that was transforming the country. At the same time, the generous use of gold, steel and a variety of expensive materials spoke to the wealth that so many new industries were creating. Art Deco survived through the roar of the 20s, the Depression of the 30s and even the global conflict that engulfed the 40s before finally falling out of favor in the 50s, giving way, at least in interior decor, to Mid-Century Modern style. Despite this, Art Deco is now experiencing a resurgence. Period pieces and reproductions in this iconic style are becoming highly sought after. And while you may not want your whole home looking like it was decorated by The Great Gatsby, if you'd like to add a bit of old school flair to your living space, here's everything you need to live it up Art Deco-style. Characteristics of Art Deco Interior Design Geometric and angular forms, exotic materials, and linear decoration characterize Art Deco design. The look is strong and bold with no fussiness or romance anywhere in sight. Materials Certain materials pop up again and again in art deco interior design: stainless steel, mirrors, chrome, glass, lacquer, inlaid wood, and even exotic skins like shark and zebra. Expensive materials such as ebony, marble, and rare woods were also often used, making some Art Deco pieces accessible only to the wealthy. Common Themes There are several themes that occur regularly in Art Deco design. They include: Leaves, branches, and feathers Nudes Trapezoids Stylized animals Chevrons and zigzags Sunbursts Jagged, pointed edges inspired by skyscrapers (such as the Chrysler building) How to Decorate in the Art Deco Style If you want to incorporate some elements of Art Deco design into your home, you're in luck. It's very easy to add one or two pieces or to decorate a whole home in the distinctive style. Here are some guidelines to help you through the process. Colors Colors in Art Deco are striking and bold with a lot of contrasts. Bright and deep yellows, reds, greens, blues, and pinks mix well with silver, black, and chrome. If you want something softer try creams and beiges which were also often used in living rooms, dining rooms, and bedrooms. These colors contrast beautifully with the polished wood and lacquered furniture common to the period. Furniture Choose strong, streamlined shapes with no frills. Furniture made of exotic woods like zebrawood, as well as chrome and mirrored pieces, are great options. Art Deco furniture tends to be large in scale so don't be afraid to buy big pieces. Sideboards, armoires and generously sized chairs are all typical of the period. Fabrics Don't use any pretty florals or plaids in an art deco room. The fabrics in this style are usually either solid colors or geometric designs. For an added punch try adding highlights with cushions in solid contrasting blocks of color. A key word to remember is "bold." Floors Linoleum in abstract designs or black and white tiles are typical, as are lacquered floors. Polished parquet is also perfect for flooring. Keep in mind that floors in the Art Deco period would have been overlaid with large rugs in geometric patterns, so feel free to do that if you choose. Lighting Lights were often made of glass and chrome (which was a brand new material at the time). Glass was sometimes etched or enameled. White glass and colored Tiffany-style glass were also very common. It's still possible to find fixtures that are original to the period, but if you can't don't worry. There are a lot of reproductions for sale on the market. By incorporating these and other Art Deco elements into your décor, you can achieve the streamlined and modernist look of the Art Deco period. sources : https://www.thespruce.com/decorating-in-art-deco-style-1976535 http://photos.hgtv.com/rooms/viewer/living-space/living-room/art-deco

5 DIY Room Decor and Desk Organization Ideas - Art Deco Style
Five easy tutorials of DIY room and desk decorations in Art Deco style. In this video I show how to make DIY Showcase, DIY Lampshade, DIY Marble Bookends and pencil holders, DIY glass shelves and books decorating. 1st DIY Glass Shelves I start with this easy DIY project because I find it really useful and gorgeous. You will need 2 glass cutting boards (I had with a picture at the bottom, so I show how to remove it), 2 carboard tubes of foil or baking paper (mine were 30 cm long and about 3-4 cm in diameter and glue (I use a glue gun and it works really great). 2nd DIY Silver Marble Pencil Holders I really love to make things painted with nail polishes, but this time I show how to make water marbling INSIDE the glass. It is really cool! Sure you'll like it! 3rd DIY Jewelry Showcase Absolutely amazing desk showcase made of photo frames. You can store jewelry, glasses, perfumes in it, whatever. It looks really fantastic. I used 4 frames 15x20 cm each and 2 frames 20x20 cm. Use a strong adhesive to secure frames together! 4th DIY Marble Bookends and Black Lace Book Decorating I love this project! It looks like an expensive stone decorations with absolutely beautiful books. You'll need your favourite books, white paper (I used wallpaper scraps), black lace ribbons and silver ribbons (or just washi tapes), paper doilies – that was for book decorating; marble vynil wrap, 2 identical cardboard boxes (I used boxes from mugs), white decorative stones and artificial plant. 5th DIY Fabric Lampshade There is hard to find which DIY from these 5 I like more! But this one is totally amazing. You'll need 50 popsicle sticks (wooden craft sticks), a piece of black & white fabric (I used old pillowcase), silver spray paint and a glue gun. Make as many cubes as you'd like. But I think three is perfect for this project :) Oh! And don't forget about LED lamp! It doesn't warm up and saves the world's climate. Italian Art Deco in the heart of Cape Town | FULL INSERT
Our location this week is an Italian-style villa built in the art deco era, and inside, it’s a wonderland of mid-century design that you just have to see for yourself. The house’s original owner was an Australian senator who had travelled through Italy on his way to South Africa, and was so impressed with the architecture of Tuscany, that he wanted a Florentine villa of his own. The neo-classical Italian Ville, built in the 1920's, features an impressive cathedral like dome in its entrance, highlighting the original ceilings throughout the house. Current owners, Michael Oldfield and Sang Fung, have put their own personal touch on it inspired by their love for art and Sang's Chinese heritage. Every room in this unconventional house is different, making it a constantly changing gallery of modern and mid-century design. The house also boasts an impressive set of collectors items, from art deco chairs to a Lionel Smit sculpture. With a 360º view of Table Mountain, the harbour and the city, this is one house that will truly take your breath away. http://www.topbilling.com

An interactive visual learning window that will bring closure to the task of differentiating two close but very different periods of design. Whether you are an artist, photographer, designer, decorator, picture framer or graphic arts student, this video sets the record straight on understanding Period Design. - M. Pacitti Art Nouveau was an ornamental style of art that flourished between the 1890's and 1910 throughout Europe and eventually North America. It was characterized by its use of a long, sinuous flowing lines as it was a deliberate attempt to create a new style, free of the imitative historicism that dominated much of 19th-century art and design. The Art Deco movement beginning in the 1920's, emerged as artists and designers integrated motifs from ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, Greece, Rome, Asia, Mesoamerica and Oceania with Machine Age elements. They created massive skyscrapers, huge ocean liners and some of the best-designed transportation vehicles. Art Deco was also influenced by Cubism, Constructivism, Functionalism, Modernism, and Futurism. Despite it's shorter life span in France, Art Deco made its way to North America and flourished up until the 1940's. Increase your knowledge through Visual Learning.

Lecture: "What's in a Name? Art Deco's Emergence and Reemergence in the United States"
Presented by Tom Mellins, independent curator and author Mr. Mellins, a Sensuous Steel: Art Deco Automobiles catalogue contributor, explores the origins of the twentieth-century visual style known as Art Deco and traces its American development, including the role of both museums and department stores in disseminating a "look" that was applied to everything from skyscrapers to toasters. He examines the varied responses of critics and historians over time, as well as the style's enduring popularity with the public—a phenomenon that continues to this day.

Art deco bedroom design ideas
If you are looking for art deco bedroom design ideas then this might be the right video to watch. Art deco is a style of visual arts that first appeared in France just before World War I. Art deco influenced the design of architecture, interior and everything in it. It can be applied to bedroom, living room, kitchen and even bathroom. During its heyday, Art Deco represented luxury, glamour, exuberance, and faith in social and technological progress. You can also watch our other videos for more inspiring design ideas. Arduino thermometer project - Art Deco style
In this Arduino Project video we are going to build this lovely Arduino thermometer with a unique art deco style. The design of this thermometer is fantastic in my opinion. It is based on the design of a commercial thermometer that was designed 100 years ago. I made some changes to the design in order to fit inside modern electronics, a photoresistor to detect darkness, some LEDs to illuminate at night, and of course an Arduino as the brains of the thermometer. I 3D printed the enclosure using wood filament. As you can see, the project is reporting the temperature, and in my opinion, it looks great. I love vintage objects and I very excited now that I can make my own using my 3D printer! Let's see how to build this project! -------------------- WHERE TO BUY -------------------- Arduino Nano: http://educ8s.tv/part/ArduinoNano Analog Voltmeter: http://educ8s.tv/part/AnalogVoltmeter DS18B20 Sensor: http://educ8s.tv/part/DS18B20 Resistors: http://educ8s.tv/part/Resistors Photoresistors: http://educ8s.tv/part/Photoresistors Diffused LEDs: http://bit.ly/DiffusedLEDs Plexiglass Sheet: http://bit.ly/PlexiglassSheet Small Breadboard: http://educ8s.tv/part/SmallBreadboard Wires: http://educ8s.tv/part/Wires Power Bank: http://educ8s.tv/part/Powerbank Full disclosure: All of the links above are affiliate links. I get a small percentage of each sale they generate. Thank you for your support! Also you are going to need some filament. The enclosure needs 220gr of material in order to print. I used Form Futura's EasyWood Birch filament in this project which costs 35$ per 500gr roll. So the cost of the enclosure is around 16$ if you print it at home. So the total cost of the project is around 26$! -------------------- Wood Filament -------------------- http://bit.ly/WoodFilamentBirch A few weeks ago I published a video where I used an analog voltmeter like this one, and I converted it into a thermometer. I encourage you to watch the video by clicking on the card here. You will understand exactly how this project works. The idea is that by using a PWM pin of the Arduino we can output an analog value from 0 to 5V and then display this value on the Voltmeter. In other words, we can control the needle of the voltmeter at will. Now, if we convert the temperature we read from the sensor into voltage we can display it on the Voltmeter! We only need to print a new face for the display, and we have converted the Voltmeter into a thermometer! Now that the circuit is ready, we can move on to the enclosure. I designed the enclosure in Fusion 360. Despite the fact that this enclosure is the most complicated object I have ever designed, it took me only 2 hours in Fusion 360! This software is really fantastic! The enclosure consists of three parts that they have to be glued together afterwards. I have uploaded the enclosure files on Thingiverse so you can download them from this website for free. -------------------- Enclosure Files -------------------- http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2180890 -------------------- LIBRARIES -------------------- 📥 DS18B20 Sensor: https://github.com/milesburton/Arduino-Temperature-Control-Library -------------------- CODE OF THE PROJECT AND FACE FILES -------------------- 📥 http://educ8s.tv/art-deco-analog-thermometer -------------------- FACT OR FICTION 2018 Quiz Game -------------------- You can download my latest Android Game which is called Fact or Fiction 2018 here: 📥 http://bit.ly/FactOrFiction2018 -------------------- MORE PROJECTS -------------------- Arduino Datalogger: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oei3Y6tOhVI Arduino Weather Station Project: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9jN-3DtS1RI Arduino Nokia 5110 LCD Display: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aDwrMeu4k9Y Arduino OLED display tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A9EwJ7M7OsI DIY Arduino: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=npc3uzEVvc0 -------------------- ABOUT EDUC8S.TV -------------------- Educ8s.tv is a Youtube channel and website which is dedicated in developing high quality videos about DIY hardware and software projects.
