Multiplication by 10, 100 and 1000.
When we multiply a number by 10, the product is the number with 1 zero to its right.
When we multiply a number by 100, the product is the number with 2 zeros to its right.
When we multiply a number by 1000, the product is the number with 3 zeros to its right.

VERSE ONE
Here is how you multiply fifty-nine by twenty-five;
Five times nine is forty-five; carry the four and write the five.
Five times five is twenty five;
then add the four and its twenty-nine.
We write a zero when we multiply the tens.
Two times nine is eighteen;
write the eight, but the one carries.
Five times two equals ten;
then add the one and you get eleven.
Add the numbers up, and that is the product.
I said, "Add the numbers up, and that is the product."
CHORUS
We need to write a zero when we multiply the tens.
Add the numbers up, and that’s the product.
VERSE TWO
Now coming on the scene is twenty-three times nineteen.
Three times nine is twenty-seven;
write the seven, carry the tens.
Two times nine is eighteen; add the two and get twenty.
Then write a zero when... we multiply the tens.
Three times one is three - two times one is two -
and now we know just what to do...
add the two numbers up and then
get four hundred thirty-seven.
Add the two numbers up and then
get four hundred thirty-seven.
add the two numbers up and then...

BRIDGE
When we do long multiplication
we check it with the inverse operation.
The product becomes the dividend.
The divisor is the multiplier or multiplicand.
Then computing with precision, we do the long division;
if the quotient is the other factor,
then we know we’ve got the right answer.
ENDING
I’m a stuffed animal and I’m here to tell you that...
If the numbers contain decimals, the extra work is minimal.
Simply multiply everything like before,
and there’s just one step more.
Count the number of decimal places,
then move left in the product that many spaces;
that’s where the decimal point’s written,
and every space to the left is dividing by ten.

ABOUT US:
http://www.NUMBEROCK.com is a provider of educational videos for kids which was founded by an innovative 5th Grade teacher who envisioned a new kind of classroom where students got energized for math class. Parents of his students even noticed their children singing mathematics songs around the dinner table well beyond school hours.
Seeing his students so enthusiastic when it was time for math was welcome, to say the least! But the epiphanous moment was when students were singing math songs all-day long like they were in the American Top 40!
We dare to believe that these math songs + videos can actually identify with elementary school children's increasingly finicky perception of what is cool and trendy. While each song is diverse in composition, most fit directly into the modern musical genres that excite young kids: genres such as Rap, R&B, Pop, Hip-Hop and even Reggae!
Our main goal is to make teaching and learning math more fun and more interactive. SchoolHouse Rock! has done this in other subjects for us in the previous generations, and many of us still enjoy watching their YouTube Videos which teach us about Government, Science, and English amongst other subjects.

Grade 4th on Khan Academy: 4th grade is the time to start really fine-tuning your arithmetic skills. Not only will you be a multi-digit addition and subtraction rockstar, but you'll extend the multiplication and division that you started in 3rd grade to several digits. You'll also discover that you sometimes have something left over (called a "remainder") when you divide. In 3rd grade you learned what a fraction is. Now you'll start adding, subtracting, multiplying, and comparing them. You'll also see how they relate to decimals. On other fronts, you'll learn how to convert between different units (which is super important when comparing the size and speed of robot unicorns in different countries) and continue your journey thinking about various shapes in two dimensions. Some of the foundational concepts of geometry (like lines, rays and angles) also get introduced. As always, we'll round this out with a healthy dose of applied word problems and explorations of number patterns and properties (including the ideas of factors, multiples and prime numbers). The fun must not stop! (Content was selected for this grade level based on a typical curriculum in the United States.)

Struggling with multiplication? Maybe it's because of the way you were taught to multiply.
The partial products method of multiplication is a much better way to multiply because it simplifies the process of operations, reducing the opportunity for errors, and allows for easy re-checking of answers.

VERSE ONE
A farmer was planting green beans
in fourteen rows of fifteen.
The area model is how he thought
about the number of plants he got.
First, he multiplied ten by ten
and wrote one hundred with his pad and pen.
Then he multiplied ten by five;
there were fifty more plants coming alive.
Then ten times four equals forty,
and just the bottom corner was empty.
So, he multiplied five by four
and ended up with twenty more.
CHORUS
Split up the place values in multiplication.
Multiply the tens to get the foundation.
Then the other place values get multiplied.
Add the partial products up, and check your work twice.
VERSE THREE
Then the farmer planted black beans
in twenty-two rows of fifteen.
To find out how many plants he had,
he drew the area model on his sketch pad.
He did twenty times ten and wrote two hundred down;
then ten times two, and twenty’s what he found.
Twenty times five was one hundred, and then,
five times two equaled ten.
He added two hundred, one hundred, twenty, and ten;
the sum was three [hundred] thirty; he checked it again.
So, there were three hundred thirty black beans
in twenty-two rows of fifteen.
