Realization of Brand Personality

04:46
Transcription: In 2015, Apple was ranked the most valuable brand in the world with a $145.3 billion valuation. Ranked third, Google’s brand was assessed at $65.6 billion, which is even greater than their revenue in the same year. Even though a brand is an intangible asset, it’s arguably the most valuable a company owns. One factor that contributes to its equity is brand personality, which is a set of human characteristics that consumers attribute to a brand based on any part of the company they perceive. In addition to increasing brand value, a well-developed brand personality helps recognize and relate to a company’s target market across cultural boundaries. It also aids in identifying companies with similar audiences to form marketing partnerships. Moreover, brand personality increases the number of things consumers associate with a company and the frequency they’re reminded of it in their day-to-day lives. All things considered, a strong personality distinguishes a brand from its competitors. To better understand brand personality, social psychologist Jennifer Aaker outlined five dimensions that should be seen as spectrums – excitement, sincerity, ruggedness, competence, and sophistication. Every marketable entity is measurable on each spectrum. Companies on the high ends embody those dimensions while those on the low ends have different, not inferior, personalities. Brands closer to the middle have less identity and effectiveness. Now let’s look more closely at each of the five dimensions. Firstly, the dimension of excitement is daring, spirited, imaginative, and up-to-date. On the high end, Red Bull is a prime example. From the head-butting bulls on their logo to their slogan’s promise to “give you wings”, they sell exhilaration. Coca-Cola, on the contrary, is on the low end of the spectrum because it’s more traditional, timeless, and classic. It appeals to a tamer audience than its highly exciting counterparts. As the fourth most valuable brand in the world, Coca-Cola shows that being low on a scale is not a bad thing. Next, companies high in sincerity are projected as down-to earth, honest, wholesome, and cheerful. They appeal mainly to family-oriented and small-town markets. One example is the Disney channel. It shows friendly, kid-appropriate programs like Austin and Ally. On the other end of the sincerity spectrum, companies embody an edgier, uninhibited persona like MTV. They appeal to a much more mature audience than their highly sincere counterparts with unwholesome shows like Jersey Shore. The third dimension of brand personality, ruggedness, analyzes how outdoorsy or tough a brand is perceived to be. Companies high on this spectrum are masculine, western, and marketed primarily toward men. On the opposite end, brands are soft, feminine, and marketed primarily toward women. Old Spice is high on this spectrum with ads showing exaggerated, muscular men promising to make customers manlier while dove shows natural, curvy women promising to make customers feel beautiful. Another measure of brand personality is competence. Entities high on this scale project reliability, intelligence, and success while companies lower might promote compassion, open-mindedness, or equality. The right wing is high on the spectrum because it promises voters strength and stability by legislating a powerful military, traditional ideals, and fiscal freedom. The left wing, on the other hand, supports public welfare programs, progressive ideals, and a regulated economy to create peace and fairness. Lastly, sophistication is the quality of being upper class and charming. Companies on the high end sell to those who believe high prices equal high quality and status. To demonstrate, Gucci’s website sells one pair of men’s jeans, and it is listed at $990.00. Conversely, the Levi’s website offers men hundreds of jean options for as low as $16.90. They, as well as other brands low in sophistication, have relatively low prices to appeal to the working-class. In place of glamour and status, they sell practicality. In conclusion, Jennifer Aaker’s five dimensions – excitement, sincerity, ruggedness, competence, and sophistication – provide a framework for better understanding brand personality. If well-defined, a brand personality creates a connection to consumers that differentiates their products or services and increases memorability. Using this knowledge, an owner or marketing team can develop and implement a strategic marketing direction to create a valuable brand and ultimately a successful business.

http://youtube.com/savvysexysocial // You've probably heard me talk a lot about brand personality. It's a really important aspect of developing the voice of your business as well as how to attract your ideal clients through likability. But I realized that even though we discuss ways to convey personality, we haven't discussed exactly how to determine what it is for your particular brand. Every brand personality is going to be vastly different. It has a lot to do with your business goals, the people within your organization, and how customers want to connect with you. So in today's video, I'm giving you some direction on how to navigate this task which will not only help your network build an emotional connection but help you understand how you can do that. What are you business goals? You're not going to all this trouble for nothing. Keeping your business goals in mind is always important because everything you do should be a step in that direction. But it's also a good place to start of how to define the overall theme of your presence. Who is the personal connection? Every brand needs to have an individual that people can connect with. It may not be as blatant as the face of weekly vlogs on a website, but it might just be the person who responds to tweets and people know they can count on. People connect with people, not logos. So take into consideration the person you're putting at the forefront of connecting with your audience and whether their personality might be playing into your brand's. What topics are fair game for your brand? You can't be all business all the time. If you want to stay focused on a general theme, that makes a ton of sense. But that doesn't mean you can't address things on a fun level that you may not have ever talked about professionally but can keep conversation light with your network in between. Great example. Absolutely anyone that talks about any type of food for a living could definitely make fun of the new holiday flavored Pringles. Unless you have site that promotes such a thing (which I don't hate on) this would be my #1 priority now to tweet and laugh about with followers. Get an idea of the playfulness that you want your brand to convey and make it policy for your community manager (even if that's you). It will remind you that even though you want to pimp out those blog posts and coupons, you need to have a little fun, too. How do you build your brand personality? Triple S, ep. 69

Personality Branding and Religion

Personality Branding and Religion Hemant Mehta (http://www.friendlyatheist.com, http://www.patreon.com/Hemant) Churches have personality branding. Have you ever seen a Joel Osteen book before? Has his smiling face all over the cover. A lot of churches are known by their pastors because they go hand in hand. That's not always a good thing... pastors aren't perfect and there are always people like Ted Haggard -- but when you have someone who's the face of the franchise, it's easier to connect with the product. How many people are obsessed with Apple products because they loved Steve Jobs? How many people voted for President Obama in 2008 because he was a captivating person and not because they loved the Democratic Party? Atheism has a stigma. But when people you trust and like say they're atheists, you're much more likely to consider it. We hate that because it doesn't sound like we're being swayed by the logic and arguments, but it's true. Daniel Radcliffe and Ricky Gervais saying they're atheists may arguably have more of an effect on people than someone like Christopher Hitchens who was very abrasive or Richard Dawkins who may come off as an elitist. Personalities matter. And every one of you is an ambassador for atheism. Don't forget that. Your personality and your brain | Scott Schwefel | TEDxBrookings

15:54
This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. We all have a unique personality, but we also show up to others in ways we don’t know. Understanding how our brains become consciously aware of ourselves, and in turn, everyone else teaches how we can connect, adapt and ultimately influence others. It all starts with knowing when we are truly self-aware, and when we aren’t, how to get there quickly and easily. Scott Schwefel built and sold Minnesota’s largest technology training company. To get there he used personality assessments to help his people understand each other and understand clients and customers. His study of personality led to an awareness of brain science and how our brains enable us to communicate with each other. Scott has taught these principles of brain science and communications techniques throughout North America, Europe and Asia, and to over 1300 CEOs globally. About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Personal Branding: Assessing Your Personality (Marketing Yourself)

03:06
An assessment of your personal raw materials would definitely not be complete without examining your “personality.” Whether you believe your personality is inborn and unchangeable -- or that traits and habits typically associated with your personality can be changed fairly easily -- understanding your personality can be extremely useful when marketing yourself. You'll gain insights into which strengths you could or should develop, how to develop them, how to deal with particular faults, the rationale behind your desires and/or interests, and even some understanding of why your core values are what they are. I list a number of free (at the time of listing) online personality assessments below, but remember that some of these might be influenced by your mood, situation, and current perspective. Don't attribute too much validity to a particular outcome of any one personality assessment. Some personality assessments you might want to investigate are: • The Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) • The Big-Five Factor Markers • Emotional Intelligence • The International Personality Item Pool (IPIP-NEO) • The Keirsey Temperament Sorter (KTS-II) • Or some of the many others that exist. Here are a few links to free (as of January 2016) online assessments: Personality Assessments • The Big Five Personality Factors: https://www.123test.com/personality-test/ • MBTI (Jung Typology): http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/jtypes2.asp • PersonalityType.com Assessment: http://www.personalitytype.com/career_quiz • Emotional Intelligence Free EQ Quiz: http://www.ihhp.com/free-eq-quiz/ • Emotional Intelligence Quotient Quiz: http://www.mhhe.com/socscience/education/sadker/Sadker_EIQQ/sadker_eiqq.htm • Jung Personality Test: https://www.123test.com/jung-personality-test/ • Big-Five Factor Markers: http://personality-testing.info/tests/BIG5.php • International Personality Item Pool (IPIP-NEO): http://www.personal.psu.edu/faculty/j/5/j5j/IPIP/ • The Keirsey Temperament Sorter (KTS-II): http://www.keirsey.com/sorter/instruments2.aspx?partid=0 • Personality Profile: http://www.personalityonline.com/tests/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Anthony Miyazaki holds a Ph.D. in Marketing and has taught Digital Marketing, Marketing Strategy, Consumer Behavior, and Marketing Yourself (a personal branding course) over a 20+ year career in academia and industry. Personality vs Brand: And The Winner is...

03:19
http://deartellman.com My buddy Manny Goldman wants to know which I think is stronger for building following, a personality or a brand. Now, right off the bat, I will confess that I don't know a whole lot about branding so my answer is instantly biased. However, I do know about building a successful email marketing business and I know what I respond to and I have an idea that most humans will agree with me... Take a look at this video for my answer. I think apple makes a Damn fine computer, and I think Steve Jobs is a pretty astounding CEO more or less... If given the choice between recieving a generic email from the Apple corporation or getting one from Steve, guess which one I will be more inclined to read. If you guessed apple you're absolutely 100% wrong! As I human, I prefer connecting with other humans. There is something about connecting with a person or even the illusion of connecting with a person that is just way more attractive to me. Ultimately, the best way to answer this question would be to do a split test. Create two versions of the same sales letter or video, but in one have a personality front the product and have the other skewed more toward a corporate entity. That is the only way to know for sure what works best. Still, I am going to stand by personality. It has gotten me this far.

How to Create and Showcase Brand Personality

AE Marketing Manager, Alexa Jackson, discusses the importance of brand personality and how to establish it in this Marketing Minute. Showcasing brand personality helps humanize brands and allows them to better connect with their audience. Don’t forget to subscribe! Check out our website: https://aemarketinggroup.com Follow Us Around INSTAGRAM: http://bit.ly/AEMG_Insta TWITTER: http://bit.ly/AEMG_TwitterHandle FACEBOOK: http://bit.ly/AEMG_FacebookPage Read the transcript below and subscribe to see all our helpful videos. Thanks for watching. Hi, I’m Alexa and this is a Marketing Minute on brand personality. Consumers are continuously bombarded with competing messaging from different brands, so how is it possible to stand out amongst all the noise? One answer is brand personality. The goal of brand personality is to build an identity for your customers to interact with. It is about differentiating your organization and turning a company that can easily come off as impersonal into something people can relate to. Customers become more loyal and feel they can trust a brand when it has a strong and positive personality. Brand personality can also teach potential customers how they should be using an organization’s products or services, and how it can fit into their lifestyle. Remember, brand personality is about authenticity - focus on your existing and inherent brand personality that exists under the surface and build that up so your customers see your brand in a new light. There are many ways to show brand personality, and it is actually quite simple. One way can be attaching a face to your brand. You see this from some large companies with faces like Ronald McDonald or The Pillsbury Doughboy. However, you don’t need to necessarily create an entirely fictional persona, but it is helpful to put one person or one team front and center for your marketing materials to build up brand personality. Another way to show personality is to bring your customers along in your daily activities. Whether this is live tweeting or posting instagram stories from things like events, conferences, and meetings, make your customers feel like they are a part of your brand family. However you do it, make sure your brand messaging and personality is consistent. Thanks for watching and we’ll see you again next time.

1.37 BILLION DOLLARS | Tiege Hanley VLOG 183

21:23
1.37 BILLION DOLLARS | VLOG 183 Harry’s Razor sold for $1.37 billion! Edgewell (owner of Schick) purchased them as well as Bulldog and Jack Black. Before discussing this further, recall that Unilever bought Dollar Shave Club (DSC) about a year ago for $1 billion. DSC raised $500 million during the course of their business, and they weren’t profitable when they sold. However, they received a 5-time multiple on their sales (think, $200 million sales per year). And that 5-time multiple was on gross! Sometimes a big exit like this is the only option for companies so deeply leveraged by the money they had to raise. By the time DSC sold, the company was so diluted that the owner Mike only owned 8% of the company. But, making 8% off a ‘monster’ watermelon is better than 100% of a ‘little’ grape. Currently, Mike is still running the DSC even after making what Aaron approximates is around $80 million from the sale. Now, back to Harry’s: they raised around $300-$350 million for funding, and they attacked the market to expand & grow quickly. Aaron imagines they weren’t profitable either; however, they received a 4-time multiple on their gross revenue (think, $300 million sales per year). For Tiege Hanley, it’s exciting to be in the men’s grooming space right now, and it’s fun to be the ‘little guy’ – the ‘scrappy start-up’. They have never raised any money and scaled without funding. They are profitable and a very healthy company with this different approach. Tiege Hanley could raise money if they desired as private equity firms have reached out. But think of it this way – they could take $2 million but they would NEED to be out-of-the-gate growing exponentially very quickly. Reciprocally, Tiege Hanley would rather grow slower, own all of the company, and not have investors telling them what to do. YOUTUBE BUSINESS QUESTIONS Q1 Cameron T -- Tiege is a brand, but that’s just one of many projects that you, Aaron, have become involved in – are they part of the brand of Alpha M or the brand of Aaron Marino? A1 – Aaron thinks of Alpha M as the brand, not Aaron Marino. Alpha M is his brand with which he does the most and enjoys the most. Off of that brand, other brands have developed such as Tiege Hanley, Pete & Pedro, ENEMY, and more. It’s been tricky for Tiege Hanley to get out from under Aaron after he has been the personality which started company. They have been working on getting away from just using him for promoting Tiege Hanley, and they are making progress in terms of traffic, acquisition, and marketing collateral. Q2 qscu913 -- How do you pick the right business partner? A2 First, make sure to do a background check. Also, make sure the business partners complement each other – each needs to stay in their own lane doing different aspects that are beneficial for the company’s survival. The partners should not have too many overlapping skill-sets. Bottom line is your partner can’t just be a ‘good dude’ – the choice needs to be strategic. Q3 Dylan LaLonde -- as a YouTuber, how do you stay fresh and creative without repeating yourself? A3 Aaron says he gets heat for promoting, but these promotions force him to be creative and think of his video content in a different way. Additionally, he’s always contemplating what would make a good video, and he works this ‘creative muscle’ to get it stronger. He also recommends not falling into the trap of watching videos of those in the same niche / audience as you’ll end up producing similar content. Q4 socalseth -- As creative entrepreneurs, how do you manage what I refer to as business A.D.D. (having different businesses going in completely different directions; whether it's just a bunch of ideas/concepts or full-on businesses in completely different fields)? A4 Aaron doesn’t have different businesses in different fields – he’s picked a field within his scope in which he’s ‘good’. He remains immersed in this field and has many businesses in the same field, but he has people handling the day-to-day operations. As entrepreneurs, you don’t want too much going on, and you don’t want to bite off more than you can chew. Additionally, as an entrepreneur, don’t get distracted by different ideas. Creative entrepreneurs have all this ‘stuff’ in their brains; however, they need to focus. These types have a tendency to chase the ‘shiny object’ so they need to put on blinders. ----- Want to give Tiege Hanley a try? ✔️SUBSCRIBE✔️ https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCaVlExuDLdGoBZYFf8eHVDg/featured?sub_confirmation=1 What makes your business unique? How can you, as on online coach or consultant, brand your services in a way that helps you stand out in a crowded marketplace? In this video, I offer branding help that will set you apart from your competitors. My branding help focuses on three elements for creating buzz around your business: 1. Identify and highlight your super skill. You don’t have to be the best in the world at this skill, but you do have to be different. If you’re a coach, you should be able to help your clients get good results. What sets you apart – what makes your business unique – is your particular approach or coaching style. Why are you the best at what you do? 2. Share your backstory. Show your audience those aspects of your background that made you who you are. People buy from people, so your brand should show your humanity. Growing your business is all about building lasting relationships with clients. Be real with them – talk openly about the experiences that led you to your mission to serve them. 3. Demonstrate your character. If your backstory led to the development of your super skill, and your super skill is what makes your business unique, it’s your personality that makes YOU unique. What are the fun quirks and character traits that make you three-dimensional to your clients? What will resonate with them and help them feel like they know you and can trust you as a person? I hope this video gives you the branding help you’ve been looking for. Now go out and create an exciting, compelling brand for your business! The Truth About Addictive Personalities

08:10
The truth about addictive personalities. Addiction is a serious issue that many people struggle with, either through their own addictions directly or while trying to help a loved one through their own addictions. When discussing addictions, people often mention the concept of “addictive personalities”, which can potentially make people more susceptible to suffering from the effects of addiction. So what do you need to know about addictive personalities in order to better understand the nature of addiction? Well, according to Crystal Raypole of Healthline as well as licensed psychologist and registered nurse Timothy J. Legg, one important thing you should know about addictive personalities is this: They don’t actually exist. #AddictivePersonality #Addiction #SubstanceAbuse Music: https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music Summary: In an article written for the website Healthline, Crystal Raypole makes the claim that the concept of the “addictive personality” is, in fact, a myth. The idea that some people are more predisposed towards having problems with addiction compared to others based on certain personality traits is pure fiction; this is because of the simple fact that addiction is a complex issue that affects mental health and can happen to anyone, regardless of the traits that make up their personality. While some people do indeed appear to be more susceptible to addiction than others, the reasons for this have nothing to do with personality and are instead rooted in mental health and psychology. To say some people have personalities that lead to addiction is as ridiculous as saying that certain personality traits make you more likely to develop other mental health disorders such as depression and anxiety. To put it simply, that’s just not how it works. Nevertheless, the idea of the addictive personality is a popular notion believed by many people to be responsible for developing many people’s addictions. Typically, people tend to equate so-called addictive personalities with a variety of traits and behaviours, such as impulsiveness, selfishness, low self-esteem, dishonesty, and failure to admit responsibility, among others. People who are believed to have addictive personalities are usually characterized as being socially isolated, lacking in personal goals or motivations and prone to struggling when it comes to impulse control. But can you really identify someone as being at a higher risk of becoming addicted to something based on this collection of traits alone? Well, the short answer is no. According to Raypole, there is no evidence to suggest that people with these personality traits and behavioural patterns are any more or less likely to develop an addiction at some point in their lives. However, for the sake of clarity, she does mention that certain mental health disorders which affect the personality, such as borderline and antisocial personality disorder may potentially be linked to higher rates of addiction, though the exact nature of this link is currently inconclusive. One thing that is certain is the fact that addiction causes changes to occur in the human brain. According to a research article published in 2017 for the Global Journal of Addiction and Rehabilitation Medicine, it’s not always clear or certain whether traits associated with addiction were present before the addiction itself or whether these traits were developed as a result of the addiction. Sort of like a “chicken or egg” scenario. The myth of the addictive personality can potentially prove to be harmful as well. While at first, the idea that the potential for addiction can be identified by specific red flags in someone’s personality seems like a useful concept, this reductive approach to the complicated and nuanced issues surrounding addiction does more harm than help; not only can it lead people to believe that they are safe from addiction because their personality doesn’t match the traits, it can also discourage people with addiction from believing they can recover as well as falsely suggest that only people with negative personality traits are prone to addiction. In reality-- and we can’t stress this enough-- addiction can happen to anyone. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subscribe to Bestie : https://goo.gl/tUqro6 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Our Social Media: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/bestieinc/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
