XYG STUDIO - LOGO & BRAND IDENTITY VI Design —— from Ancient Chinese Seal to Modern Minimalism This project looks into the fusion of cultural tradition and modernity in graphic design. Enlightened by the font style of the seals in the painting and calligraphy works of Chinese ancient literators, I design the logo and brand identity from my name for my design studio. By deconstructing the form of the Chinese characters in my name, I reorganize the strokes following the style of the traditional seals to get the logo; meanwhile, I eliminate the complicated elements from the ancient works to integrate the intangible cultural heritage with the modern simplicity.

Some young artists start by identifying themselves in relation to a famous artist that they are influenced by. As a starting point, Webber advises: think of an artist who influenced you, and think of an artist you have something in common with, and those artists should be as far apart from each other as stylistically possible. Then think about what Webber calls your “unique differentiator.” This is some aspect of yourself that separates you from others, that makes you stand out. Capturing the emotional intention in your music will bring it to life. The difference between intention and vision, according to Webber, is that the vision is what art you plan on creating, while the intention is the execution of bringing your vision to life. As examples of artists who have tied the “I.V.I.” together especially well, Webber points to examples like Lady Gaga, The Beatles, and Bob Dylan. About Stephen Webber: Stephen Webber is an Emmy-winning composer and professor of Music Production and Engineering at Berklee College of Music. In three decades as a record producer, engineer, session player, music director, recording artist, DJ, and studio designer, Stephen has recorded with Ivan Neville, Meshell Ndegeocello, the Manhattan Guitar Duo, and the Turtle Island String Quartet, and performed with Bela Fleck, Mark O'Conner, Grandmixer DXT, and Emmylou Harris. A writer for Electronic Musician, Remix, and Mix Magazine, Stephen is also the author of Turntable Technique: The Art of the DJ, the first book to teach the turntable as a musical instrument. Stephen performs and presents clinics and master classes throughout the US, Canada, Europe, and Australia, and has been profiled on the Today Show, CNN, and NPR's All Things Considered, and in the New York Times and Rolling Stone magazine. The INNERview Ep123 Suh Eul-ho, the principal architect behind Hyundai Motor Studio Architect Suh Eul-ho attracts many corporate clients with his ability to incorporate architecture and brand identity. These days, he's drawing attention as the mastermind behind Hyundai Motor Studio, comprised of several experience zones to provide potential customers with an improved car shopping experience. The lighting system including the neon lights turns the otherwise dull metal walls into fascinating pieces of art in the afternoon, while the LED lamps in 8 different colors create an eye-catching scenery at night. Suh Eul-ho is the younger brother of the world-renowned installation artist SUH Do-ho and his wife, Kim Kyung-en, is also a famous architect. These three have joined forces on a number of projects, including the Blueprint that was exhibited at the 12th Venice Biennale. Their collaboration was prompted by the request made by Kazuyo SEJIMA, the curator for the exhibition, to create a piece that combined art and architecture. Suh Eul-ho grew up in an environment that nurtured his artistic sense and ability thanks to his father, Suh Se-ok, famous for his Eastern painting style. He also had a chance to witness the 7-year-long process of building a hanok, or a Korean traditional house, which was orchestrated by a master hanok architect. With the pencils and sketchbooks brought back by his father after his travels, he designed his very own dream of becoming an architect. After obtaining a bachelor of architecture at Rhode Island School of Design, he furthered his education in the same field and obtain a master's from Harvard. Then he finally arrived on home soil 8 years ago after spending 20 years in America. Since his return, he has been endeavoring to contribute to the advancement of Korean architecture and training of junior architects. On this episode of Snapshot, Chris Do takes some time to visit his friend Matt Bretz, vice president and creative director at Ayzenberg Group. The Ayzenberg is essentially a marketing and advertising agency based in Pasadena, California. Ayzenberg (http://www.ayzenberg.com) employs over 170 people. Their busy and well-lit space, sharply designed by Richard Corsini of Corsini Stark Architects, is filled with amazing works by artists that have been employed by the agency like Tim Biskup. The central philosophy at Ayzenberg is based on a triangular iterative process between the client, creation, and sharing. Chris observes the inner workings and day-to-day operations at the agency, speaking with several employees about their past, present, and future work. From Ayzenberg's work with Xbox and the gaming industry to their marketing insider publication, Frontline, we're given a behind the scenes look into how their projects come to life. Brand identity, commercials, packaging, and online content can all be produced in-house at Ayzenberg. Innovative techniques and technologies are being developed to help match brands with relevant influencers via ION, the Influencer Orchestration Network, and their project Brand Soulmates, a proprietary algorithmic solution for identifying influencers. Chris asks how up-and-coming influencers can be more easily seen by these systems. Chris also takes a look at employees using special software to make movies with video games. Capture directors take advantage of virtual cameras in video game development builds to capture footage of players in-game. With this captured footage, editors create compelling movies via storytelling for the promotion of upcoming games.
