The boat insurance people who share your passion…http://www.boatinsure.co.uk http://www.boat-zone.com/mbm Great Motorboat Tour adventurer John Boyle is an underwater film maker for National Geographic - so this compendium of the best encounters with the wildlife they met around our shores is a 'must watch' episode. John nominates the Farne Islands as his standout location - simply because of the amount of wildlife and the fact that you can get so close to it. But there's so much more to enjoy - from brilliant underwater footage of fish, sea ferns and corals to seals, dolphins and sharks as well as just some of over 180 different species of bird that can be seen around our wonderful coastline. Sponsored by leading boat insurance specialists Haven Knox-Johnston (http://www.boatinsure.co.uk) For Full Video Transcript: 31/32 – Close-up on Britain’s brilliant sea life Sponsored by Haven Knox-Johnston, the boat insurance specialist. Before setting out on our trip, the last thing I’d expected was the amount and diversity of coastal wildlife that we would see. We were amazed and surprised by the concentrations of birds on remote rocks and headlands. Healthy colonies of seals and memorable encounters with intriguing sea creatures. Valerie Galpin started the Manx Whale & Dolphin Group many years ago and has been studying closely the Isle of Man population of up to 200 Risso’s dolphins. Many of the pod had, in her words, “gone missing”, around the time we spotted these off Kinlochbervie. The clips from our film that I sent her may prove that these were members of the Manx population, taking an early season holiday in the North. The Rissos were one of three different species of dolphins that we saw on our trip. On several occasions we encountered small groups of bottlenose dolphin, and occasionally we came across large pods of common dolphins. And no-one could forget Fungi, the friendly lone male dolphin that made his home in Dingle almost thirty years ago, and who has unknowingly made a huge Fungi-watching industry. Gannets are one of the UK’s seabirds that seem to be thriving. Between March and September, Britain is in fact home to nearly 70% of the world’s breeding gannet population. The colony on Skellig is one of the most spectacular, with around 30,000 nesting pairs at the height of the season. As an underwater filmmaker, I regretted not having time to stop and dive in some of the unique locations that we passed through. I’d recommend anyone to at least put on a snorkel, and check the amazing underwater life around our coasts. Basking shark are the second biggest fish in the planet’s oceans. 2011 was a bad year for spotting basking shark – we only saw one small one in the whole of our trip. I later learnt that this was because the plankton layers on which they feed were deeper than usual. These shark are year-round residents of our coast, and are usually easy to spot in the early summer months. The chance of snorkelling with them is an unforgettable experience. It’s also surprising how often you come across whales when at sea. This was a Giant Fin Whale that we spotted in Falmouth Bay later in the season. Many cliffs and sea stacks were crammed with birdlife. But the Farne Islands where, for me, a highlight of the trip. Not only because of the massive concentrations of birds, but also how close you could get to them. Sponsored by Haven Knox-Johnston, the boat insurance specialist.

Living Seas is The Wildlife Trusts' vision for the future of the UK's seas. What picture does the phrase conjure up in your mind? A rocky reef bursting with brightly coloured fish, corals and sponges? A boat trip in the company of leaping dolphins and playful seals? Fishermen hauling nets that are brimful of big, tasty fish? Living Seas are all these things and more. But the UK's seas are not Living Seas. Decades of neglect have left them damaged and degraded, a shadow of their former diversity and abundance. We urgently need your help to bring them back to life. The next five years are critical. It is literally 'make or break' time. With new laws and Government commitments in the offing, we have a 'once in a lifetime' opportunity. If we make the very best of that opportunity, pushing every step of the way, our seas will turn the corner and start to recover their health. If we do not, they will continue on their downward spiral. This film shows some of the diversity of life in our seas, and sets out to you, our vision for the future. For further information go to: http://www.wildlifetrusts.org/index.php?section=environment:marine:ourwork to find out how you can do your bit for Living Seas!

When British photographer Lara Maiklem heard tens of thousands of sea creatures washed up on a beach near her hometown of Kent, England, over the weekend she had to see the scene for herself. So, she woke her 5-year-old twins in time to catch the tide. Maiklem described the scene as "shocking" and "sad," but at the same time, she had to admit it was an "incredible" sight. In fact, it was "almost biblical in scale," she added. Sharks, whales and other amazing wonders of the deep are to go on show in a groundbreaking new educational and family fun touring exhibition called Sea Creatures. It will feature cross sections of 50 real-life specimens - ethically sourced and painstakingly preserved - amongst them some of the largest beasts on Earth, including a giant baleen whale and a whale shark. Also on show will be the infamous great white shark, a dolphin, seal, octopus, penguin, sting ray and more. The 200 exhibits also include organs and other body parts displayed using the same plastination technique made famous by artist Damien Hirst - replacing fluids and soluble fats with resins. Sea Life München – seit 6.

The London Aquarium is a great break from the hustle and bustle of the London traffic. So well worth an escape :-) There are normally great deals on tickets - which can be purchased in package deals, for example with the London Eye (check out our other video!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yHtQq7wQTQc The sea life aquarium has multiple sections from the intense Shark Walk, the Atlantic Coasts section, there is the Ray Lagoon, Seahorse Kingdom, Conservation Cove, Ocean Invaders (jellyfish), Rockpool and Ocean Tunnel. Through each location you can see everything from Octopus, Ray's, Penguins and more. An amazing family thing to do - or for anyone ;-) The Sea Life London Aquarium is located on the ground floor of County Hall on the South Bank of the River Thames in central London, near the London Eye. It opened in March 1997 as the London Aquarium and hosts about one million visitors each year. There are different types of trips done to the London Aquarium and there are a couple of things to keep in mind while being there and make sure to check before leaving the place. This place is one of those which the school trips in London are usually headed to and this of course comes in addition to the trips that families tend to do with their kids and those coming to visit the city also love to check and witness those creatures living under the water. Think about those creatures which you might love the most when it comes to the life under the water and you will find out that most of these are found in the London Aquarium. There are Sharks, Sea Turtles, Clownfish and many other types which might be rare to find in any other place. The most interesting thing about London Aquarium is that you come so close to these different creatures and get to see them on a closer level. Many of those creatures found in London Aquarium are on the endangered list, have been rescued and cannot be released into the wild or have been born and bred as part of the conservation projects related to the aquarium, so in all the cases, you will come closer to species which you might not be able to see anywhere else even in other aquariums around the world. From the sea creatures that are found there, you will find Coral Reef, Seahorses, Seadragons, Pipefish, Penguins, Turtles, Rockpools, Jellyfish, Sharks, Rays, British Waters, Rainforest Species, the River Thames and Octopus. The most interesting thing of all in addition to witnessing all those in the real world is coming so close to them - you will get that feeling as if you are swimming with them in the water. London Aquarium is open all week days, it opens from 10 am to 6 pm during week days with the last admission being at 5 pm and it opens from 9:30 am to 7 pm during the weekends with the last admission being at 6 pm; so you could head there during your stay in London any day in the week, just find which day is suiting you the best. London Aquarium is located on the south bank of the River Thames, within the County Hall building, it is just right next to the Coca-Cola London Eye that stands as one of the top attractions of London since it gives the people the chance to view the whole city from up there. This location also comes right next to the Westminster Bridge from Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_pETuPDFSM). London Aquarium - which is also known as Sea Life London Aquarium - brings different experiences to those visiting it through the different parts found inside and every part of them could offer something to the visitor that could sometimes reach feeding the creature. Those parts include the Shark Walk, the Open Oceans and Ship Wreck part, Nemo's Coral Reef, Rainforests of the world partition, the Penguin Point, the Shark Reef Encounter and in every single one of them you will get the chance to choose what you want to do inside, if you want to feed any of them, you should know the specific times and should book the VIP ticket. London is filled with lots of places to be visited and in every single one of them, you will find yourself falling in love with a specific thing, it might be all about history and it might be all about the life of the city in general; we have been there and we know what we are telling you :-)! In addition to Coca-Cola London Eye and Big Ben, there is still a long list of places to go to and check while you are visiting London and from those which we have also been to, there is Buckingham Palace (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z57xeLn1Zaw), Chinatown (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8SXA8F6fpZI) and the Natural History Museum (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=staR4hsWHzc) but the list could go on to include lots of other places like Oxford street, taking the hop-on hop-off bus around the city, visiting Madame Tussauds and visiting lots of other historical places in the city as well. Are you ready to get into London Aquarium and come closer to all those sea creatures found there inside the waters?

A colony of penguins at an aquarium in Birmingham have picked England to win in their World Cup quarter final fixture against Sweden this Saturday. Workers at the National Sea Life Centre Birmingham set up a 'physic' test where the penguins chose between the England and Sweden flag, to predict the match winner. Adorable footage shows the penguins flocking towards the St George's Cross - giving their pick for the crunch clash against the Scandinavian rivals.
