2017 Appalachian Trail thru-hike prep: Food Plan for my Backpacking Trip on the Ice Age Trail

08:45
This backpacking trip was practice for my 2017 Appalachian Trail thru-hike. I wanted to see how long this food would last me, and if it would sustain me through the trip. Spoiler: It didn't! Food plan for my Ice Age Trail backpacking trip: 1. Folger's Instant Coffee Packets -http://www.folgerscoffee.com/coffees/single-serve-coffee/classic-roast-instant-single-serve-packets -Review: Not as good as Starbuck's Via Instant Coffee Packets, but cheaper! -Tip: If you like strong coffee, use two packets! One packet makes for a weak cup! 2. Annie's Fruit Chews -http://www.annies.com/products/fruit-snacks -Review: Very tasty and satisfying, but the packets are a tad small for a hiker's appetite, so plan to eat two packets per snack! 3. Nature's Path Instant Oatmeal: Original -http://shop.naturespath.com/Original-Oatmeal/p/NPA-450016&[email protected] -Review: Great oatmeal, but not the best with water. I couldn't eat it like that, long-term. I plan to look into powdered milk options. 4. Werther's Originals Caramel Hard Candies -http://www.werthers-original.us/products/caramel-candies/hard-candies -Review: I've had these before, so no real updates here. They are sweet and tasty, and hit the spot in the middle of a hike! 5. Field Day Multigrain Snack Bar: Mixed Berry -http://www.fielddayproducts.com/description2?upc=04256360064&category_id=37&sub=1 -Review: I've had these bars many times over. They are very satisfying, and all of the varieties are equally good! 6. Clif Kid Organic Z Bars: Goblin Chocolate Chip -http://www.clifbar.com/products/clif-kid/zbar -Review: Nothing to complain about here. They are classic, delicious granola bars. 7. EPIC Bar: 100% Grass Fed Bison -https://epicbar.com/products.html -Review: I like that these bars aren't too heavy, but still have the protein you'll need on the trail. The organic/grass fed part is a fantastic plus for me, because I know I'm eating tasty, healthy meat. 8. Organic Prairie Mighty Bars: 100% Grass Fed Beef: Cranberry and Sunflower Seed -https://www.organicprairie.com/product/bmbcsp/shop_by_category -I have exactly the same comments on the Mighty Bars as I do the Epic bars. They are both equally tasty and filling! 9. Cliff Energy Shot: Citrus -http://www.clifbar.com/products/clif/shot-energy-gel -Review: Not the tastiest, but does the trick! 10. Outpost Natural Foods Cooperative High Antioxidant Trail Mix -https://www.outpost.coop/ -Review: Had this many time! It is a great blend of dried fruits and nuts! Plus it's sweet and salty, which I love! -Ingredients coming soon! 11. Koyo Ramen Noodles: Asian Vegetable & Lemongrass Ginger -http://www.koyonaturalfoods.com/koyo-ramen2 -Review: This is the healthy alternative to Maruchan Ramen Noodles. Koyo RamenNoodles are made with organic, baked noodles, and no preservatives, dyes, or artificial flavorings. Plus, it's tasty! 12. Outpost Natural Foods Organic Dehydrated Corn Chowder -https://www.outpost.coop/ -Review: Super tasty and satisfying! There's nothing like a hot meal after a long hike! -Tip: Mix the chowder with the Koyo Ramen noodles for a heartier meal! About me: My name is Lauren. I write the camp and travel blog Two Tents Down (www.twotentsdown.com). I'm sure you wouldn't be surprised to find out that I LOVE hiking! Location Selected! - Solo Winter Backpacking Trip (Pt 2)

09:17
Based on Viewer Feedback I've Chosen the Location for my Solo Winter Backpacking Trip! http://www.sintax77.com For the second installment of this series, I’ll be talking about my final choice for the location of the upcoming backpacking trip that I've been planning. How did I make my decision on the final location for my winter camping trip? You told me! A very big thanks is in order for all of the super helpful viewers and subscribers that shared their feedback on the previous trip planning video. Obviously, i had to narrow it down to just one area out of the hundred of backpacking routes that we shared, but I definitely learned a ton of useful info on areas for future trips as well. For now though, I'm going to focus on the spot chosen for this trip. Which is, of course, - Oh, come on, you didn't think I'd really ruin the surprise by typing it here, did you? :) I plan to do continued updates throughout the whole process of planning this winter hiking trip. All the way from location selection, specific route planning, getting there, doing the actual trip, and whatever else may come up in between, so check back for updates! Want to help support the channel? The next time you're about to do some shopping, go through the Amazon link on my website & a portion of your session will help support the next trip ...at no additional cost to you! http://www.sintax77.com Want a free sticker? It is essential to have a good map with you when you hit the trail. If you want to use your smart phone, you will often find yourself in remote locations with no reception. MY TRIP TO CUBA | EP. 1 | Hiking in the Jungle & Naked Swims

05:07
In this video I arrived at Havana, Cuba, met up with Emma & Cyb, and headed to the Jungle!! Where we hiked to a waterfall, swam in clear glistening mineral water and feasted on delicious Vegan food (The best meal I ate during my whole stay in Cuba). It was very impromptu as we didn't even plan on staying the night in Soroa! But we saw the little house on the hill and it just happened to have a sign saying " Vegetarian Cafe" which also hosted people overnight. It was just meant to be and felt so wonderful to go into a situation without any plan and good intentions. Lightweight Spring Backpacking Gear List - 22 Pounds w/ Food and Water

Every backpacking trip you go on is bound to have variations in gear that make each load out different. That is the case with this weekend headed to Southern Utah to hike the Boulder Mail Trail and Sand Creek in Escalante, Utah. This time I have the ability to share gear like my stove, cook pot, tent, and more. This allows for a lighter overall pack weight and makes it so necessary amounts of gear aren't taken as well. First Time Hiking and Hammock Camping with my Daughter

18:47
For this adventure we drove to Dahlonega, Georgia and spent our first day looking around town and spending the evening at the Hiker Hostel. The next morning which was Black Friday, we drove to the parking area of Springer Mountain to begin our hike north along the Appalachian Trail. Surprisingly other hikers decided to spend the busiest shopping day out in nature too. Other than a day hike this was my daughter Gabrielle’s first hike with an overnight stay. Our plan was to stay 2 nights and return to the starting point. Having hiked this section of the Appalachian Trail before, I knew there were some very nice views and streams to cross. We decided to set up our hammocks at the Stover Creek Shelterjust off of the Appalachian Trail. The Stover Creek Shelter is the second shelter you pass after leaving Springer Mountain. My daughter seemed to be enjoying her first camping trip until sunset. She was unable to fall asleep but was convinced that black bears were lurking in the darkness. She ended up relocating to my hammock. Come morning she didn’t want to stay another night so we packed it in. I’m sure we’ll be back but most likely sleeping in a tent for Gabrielle’s sake. Here is a list of the Gabrielle’s gear used during this trip: Gabrielle’s hammock – Dream Hammock Darien, single layer. http://www.dream-hammock.com/Darien.html Gabrielle’s topquilt – Hammock Gear Burrow 40° http://www.hammockgear.com/burrow-20/ Gabrielle’s underquilt – Hammock Gear Incubator 0° http://www.hammockgear.com/incubator-20/ Gabrielle’s backpack – Osprey Jet 18 http://www.ospreypacks.com/us/en/product/jet-18-JET18.html http://www.roaminggnome.net https://www.facebook.com/Roaming-Gnome-1029737840375196/?ref=hl

Trip Preparation #3 Meals

10:29
Third video in my trip preparation series covers meal planning, food is important to me in the back country. I enjoy making satisfying and tasty meals while outside enjoying nature. I use daily calorie usage to plan my meals for hiking trips. I used the food I took on my 2015 Mantario hike to illustrate how i plan my meals and portion my food. I use the following targets: Breakfast 750 Calories Lunch 1500 Calories Supper 750 Calories My goal is between 3,000 and 3500 Calories per day I also target a maximum weight of 2lbs/day. While the items change I use the same process for all hiking trips. Recipes I used on this trip came from the following websites: Maddy The Goose: http://www.maddythegoose.com/Home/food Hungry Hammock Hanger : MrBabelfish5 https://www.youtube.com/channel/UClI2sOu20yhQGfEkbO9bieQ
123 calorie/oz. food list for my unsupported FKT thru-hike

This is what I am eating during my unsupported speed attempt of the Superior Hiking Trail. Recipe for Even Keel Trail Bars: 1 Cup Peanut Butter 1 Cup Honey 1 TSP vanilla extract Mix together and then add: 1/2 cup finely chopped nuts (I chose pecans) 1/4 cup wheat germ 1 cup chocolate chips 4 1/2 cups oatmeal When mixed press is a "Well Buttered Pan" and cut into bars. Press almonds into the top of bars - close enough to get an almond in each bite. First Camping Trip - Camping With Kids

04:17
Ever since my daughter turned 4, I've been waiting for the right time to take her on our first camping trip! My original plan was to do a short hike to a great site in the Kisatchie Hills Wilderness. We made it 100 feet from the truck before she was done...plan B. There are several semi-developed campgrounds in this area and we ended up at Coyote Camp. I only had gear for backpack camping, so I am looking forward to expanding into car camping. Chairs, ice chests, Coleman stoves, soooo luxurious!! Find more info: http://www.louisianahikes.com

My Sri Lanka Travel Tips After 2 Week of Backpacking Sri Lanka

08:42
After traveling Sri Lanka for 2 weeks, I've put together this video which outlines what it's like to travel in Sri Lanka, and offers some tips for traveling Sri Lanka. I summarize the transportation, the hotels and accommodations, what to watch out for, and the overall experience that I had. This is a must-watch if you are planning a trip to Sri Lanka. Our trip took us from Colombo, along the coast for a short visit to Galle before heading to Mirissa to go whale watching and hangout on the beach. We then went to Tangalle for more of Sri Lanka's beautiful beaches, and then Tissa for a Yala Safari tour. After that, we headed up to Ella where we did a tour of a local village, and then took the train to Kandy where we hung out for a few days before ending our trip at the beach town probably best known for being close to the airport - Negombo. 🍳 For information about the food in Sri Lanka (what to eat, the costs, what to expect, etc) watch my follow-up video, which can be found at the end of this one. 📽 More videos about Sri Lanka: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLKDIXWmwq80iUXoSfFZmtUTb4HCmq5oKs 🗣 I post new videos every Tuesday and Thursday at 3PM EST. 👤 ABOUT ME I live in China and am constantly exploring and traveling the country and other parts of Asia.
