North Sea Oil - 1975

08:18
At Dyce near Aberdeen, Her Majesty the Queen presses the button that sends the first North Sea Oil flowing into the Grangemouth Refinery. It marks the fruition of years of research, technology, hard work and grim determination. From the Forties Field by under sea pipeline, a marvel itself in engineering, the oil comes ashore at Cruden Bay. It travels then by underground pipes to the BP Refinery at Grangemouth. To the people of Aberdeen oil has already meant a change in their life style, could it also be the turning point in Britain's economy. LOOP safely and efficiently offloads tankers of crude oil that are imported into the U.S. from the Arabian Gulf, Russia, West Africa, the North Sea, Mexico and South America. Many tankers that discharge their cargoes at LOOP are supertankers and are designated as either "very large crude carriers" (VLCCs) or "ultra large crude carriers" (ULCCs). These massive ships can be longer than the Empire State Building is tall.

Towing Largest Oil Rig in History

03:37
☸ Oil platform was installed in 1988 by Shell in the Gulf of Mexico and was regarded as one of the most extraordinary engineering feats of the 20th century. The platform was nicknamed ‘Bullwinkle’ and was the world’s tallest oil rig at the time of construction. It is 150 ft taller than the Willis (Sears) Tower in Chicago and was built entirely in Texas before being towed, in one piece, 332 nautical miles to its final location. Bullwinkle used 10 times the amount of steel as the Eiffel Tower and weighed over 50,000 tonnes. Construction of the jacket alone took 2.5 years and to tow it out to sea, an 853 ft long barge—also world’s largest at the time—was constructed. The entire project took over 5 years and cost over $500 million in the 1980s. ⚓️ For more videos like this click like and subscribe ⚓️ 🔴Business contact: [email protected] You can find Us on: FB: https://www.facebook.com/thesealad YouTube: https://goo.gl/PcwM6k Google+:https://goo.gl/kHOOO9 Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/thesealad Twitter: https://twitter.com/TheSeaLad1 Seafarers Jobs: http://jobatseas.blogspot.com 🔴For copyright matters please contact us at: [email protected] Watch more maritime videos on our channel: https://goo.gl/O7dM4Z Most expensive Yachts in the world https://youtu.be/clWFpZ7qTdQ Inside the Lifeboat https://goo.gl/A9yK64 Top 10 Biggest Ships in the World https://goo.gl/I8zTZk Ships 2017 - PC Game https://goo.gl/wNHfCi Copy Right Claim : Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. - Like our Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/oilvips - Oil and gas are generated from a source rock, organic matter buried in the depths of the earth. Once formed, they climb back towards the surface. On their way, cap rocks can impede their progress and they accumulate in reservoir rocks. Here they constitute hydrocarbon fields, which can be identified by interpreting seismic data (a sort of echography). The data is obtained with the help of a seismic ship. To confirm the interpretations of seismic data, two types of drilling gear exist. Each is adapted to a range of depth of water (down to more than 2500 meters). The platform seen here is a semi-submersible, which floats and retains its stabilised position by means of anchors fixed on the seabed. Platforms at sea are used not only for drilling but also for the production of hydrocarbons. This production consists of the separation of oil, gas and water, before the oil and gas is taken by pipeline towards a mainland terminal. Where it is impossible or too expensive to link the field to the coast by a pipeline, an FPSO ship is used (Floating Production Storage and Offloading barge). Onboard, the hydrocarbons and the water are separated. The oil is stored prior to being loaded on tankers and the gas is re-injected into the reservoir rocks. Gas from a field is taken to land through an underground gasoduct to a processing plant. There, if the gas is to be transported by sea, it is converted into liquid obtained by cooling it down to --163°C. When it arrives at the plant terminal, the liquid natural gas (LNG) is returned to its gaseous state in a re-gasification plant, before being introduced into the local gasoduct network. The LNG is stored in tanks before re-gasification. The crude oil is transported in a petroleum tanker, the capacity of which can attain 200 000 tons. It is commonly called a "super- tanker". The terminals capable of receiving such giants are few and far between. The ships used to transport the crude oil produced on an FPSO ship are of a much smaller capacity. The crude oil, before being refined, is stored in the port in the large capacity tanks. The natural gas is preserved in reservoirs (artificial or natural). It is ready to be injected by pumping into the gasoduct network for industrial and domestic use or as fuel in power-generating stations. As far as the crude oil goes, it is transported by oleoduct to the refinery. There it undergoes a number of transformations and blending. A variety of finished products are obtained (LPG, petrol, kerosene, diesel ...), or naphtha, which will be used as the basis for the composition of plastic products by complex petroleum chemistry. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Like our Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/oilvips Twitter: https://twitter.com/oilvips And Don't forget to subscribe to our channel

The 5 Largest Offshore Platforms of the World

03:20
Offshore platforms are remarkable engineering feats, therefor it is time for the 5 largest offshore platforms of the world! Massive in size, these structures take several years and often many billions of dollars to build — but when complete, they can extract oil and gas from some of the least-accessible spots on the planet. The Mars B/Olympus Platform in the Gulf of Mexico First oil production begun in February 2014 from the Mars B development through Olympus, Shell’s seventh, and largest, floating deep-water platform in the Gulf of Mexico. Combined production from Olympus and Shell’s original Mars platform is expected to deliver an estimated resource base of 1 billion barrels of oil equivalent (boe). The project is also directly investing $5 million dollars in community, social and environmental initiatives with the aim to benefit the communities of the US Gulf Coast, as well as in South Korea, where the hull of the Olympus platform was built. Olympus sailing into the Gulf of Mexico Olympus sailing into the Gulf of Mexico The Hibernia Platform in the Canadian Atlantic Hibernia is an oil field in the North Atlantic Ocean, approximately 315 kilometres (196 mi) east-southeast of St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada, in 80 m of water. The production platform Hibernia is the world’s largest oil platform (by weight) and consists of a 37,000 t (41,000 short tons) integrated topsides facility mounted on a 600,000 t (660,000 short tons) gravity base structure. The platform was towed to its final site, and 450,000 t (500,000 short tons) of solid ballast were added to secure it in place. Inside the gravity base structure are storage tanks for 1.2 million barrels (190,000 m3) of crude oil. The Hibernia Platform in the Canadian Atlantic The Hibernia Platform in the Canadian Atlantic The Petronius Platform in the Gulf of Mexico Petronius is a deepwater compliant tower oil platform operated by Chevron Corporation and Marathon Oil in the Gulf of Mexico, 210 km southeast of New Orleans, United States. A compliant piled tower design, it is 609.9 metres (2,001 ft) high, and was arguably the tallest free-standing structure in the world, until surpassed by the Burj Khalifa in 2010, although this claim is disputed since only 75 metres of the platform are above water. The multi-deck topsides are 64 metres by 43 metres by 18.3 metres high and hold 21 well slots, and the entire structure weighs around 43,000 tons. Around 8,000 m3 (50,000 barrels) of oil and 2,000,000 m3 (70 million cubic feet) of natural gas are extracted daily by the platform. The jacket supports topsides weighing 7,500t. The jacket supports topsides weighing 7,500t. The Perdido Platform in the Gulf of Mexico Perdido is the world’s deepest spar, and the second-deepest oil and gas production hub after Shell’s Stones development. Moored in around 2,450 metres (8,000 feet) of water in the US Gulf of Mexico, Perdido started production in 2010, opening up a new frontier in deep-water oil and gas recovery. The Perdido Platform in the Gulf of Mexico The Perdido Platform in the Gulf of Mexico The Berkut Platform in the Sea of Okhotsk on the Russian Pacific Coast Russia’s Rosneft and America’s ExxonMobil have launched a unique drilling platform in the Okhotsk Sea in Russia’s Far East. The world’s most powerful rig can drill within the radius of at least 7 kilometers. The drilling platform can withstand a 9 magnitude earthquake, waves of up to 18 meters and temperatures down to minus 44 degrees Celsius, Rosneft President Igor Sechin said. Berkut can also withstand floating ice up to two meters thick and has an autonomous power supply system. It has the largest superstructure on any rig. Weighing 200,000 tons it can drill a total of 45 wells. The platform is located 25 km offshore in waters up 35 meters deep. The drilling will be performed by means of a marine rig, which allows all-year-round drilling of wells. http://ttalents.com/5-largest-offshore-platforms/

150 natural gas production platforms are installed in the Dutch sector of the North Sea. They produce gas from small fields, which is crucial in maintaining a decreased dependency on foreign gas. These platforms can be vital in distributing the electricity of wind farms at sea. Because in the future, energy will mainly be generated by off-shore wind farms. Far away and out of sight. Transporting the electricity to land requires a new, expensive infrastructure. A and the construction of new substations. A multi-billion investment. Through the use of the existing off-shore oil and gas rigs, there is a cheaper and more sustainable solution to this. Some rigs can be converted into substations so they can act as auxiliary stations, or a “hub”. The transport cables can then be laid from platform to platform, along the existing, and permanently monitored, natural gas pipelines. Allowing wind energy to be transported from wind farms to land with less loss of power. Another advantage is that platforms can then generate energy for their own machinery from wind rather than natural gas. This minimizes CO2 and other emissions. Making our natural gas production cleaner. In the longer term, this combined infrastructure can be expanded, to form the basis of future wind farms even further off-shore. This will help to reduce the cost of installing these new farms. And this type of new, integrated infrastructure presents new opportunities. Such as connections to other countries. What’s more, in the future, an excess peak in electricity production can be converted to gas. This is called Power to Gas. This gas can be injected into the existing gas transport system. If necessary in the future, CO2 can also be stored in empty - gas fields offshore by using the natural gas infrastructure of pipelines and platforms. Collaboration between the gas and wind sectors in the North Sea also means sharing equipment for transport and maintenance. Another opportunity to save costs. Geological and ecological knowledge can also be shared. As has been agreed non-functioning platforms will be dismantled and cleaned up. But this can blocks new opportunities. Such as exploiting the 125 currently undeveloped gas fields offshore. And it slows down the expansion of affordable off-shore wind energy. Synergy between gas and wind creates an integrated energy system: the generation, storage and transport of energy. Thanks to Power Park North Sea!

Cormorant Alpha workers evacuated after leak shuts down oil fields

00:45
An oil pipeline servicing more than 20 oil fields in the North Sea has been closed following the discovery of a leak on the Cormorant Alpha platform. The hydrocarbon leak, discovered in one of the rigs legs, caused the rig's owners Taqa Bratani to evacuate 92 workers, leaving just 57 essential workers on board. The shutdown affects eight feeder platforms that send oil via Cormorant Alpha along a 150km pipeline to the Sullom Voe terminal in the Shetland. The shutdown affects approximately 10 percent (90,000 barrels per day) of the UK's oil production (850,000 barrels per day). The leak, discovered on Monday, has already been contained, according to the owners. The remaining rigs in the field will temporarily store their production on tankers.

North Sea oil has made the Scottish city of Aberdeen into a boomtown. Its fortunes rise and fall with the price of crude. Drilling platforms spike up just of the coast. They are owned by major oil companies like BP, Shell and Total. In the city itself are some 900 companies that supply the oil industry. Every seventh Aberdeen works in an oil-related job. The companies here have learned how to cope with fluctuations in the industry. But with oil prices breaking one record after another at the moment, they can barely keep up. Supply ships are jammed up in the port and extraction is running at full-tilt, leaving the town hungry for workers. We went to Aberdeen to see what it's like. A report from Claudia Laszczak.
