"CHARLES JAMES - BEYOND FASHION" Exhibition at Metropolitan Museum of Art New York by FC

07:01
Charles James "BEYOND FASHION" Exhibition at Metropolitan Museum of Art New York The inaugural exhibition of the newly renovated Costume Institute examines the career of the legendary twentieth-century Anglo-American couturier Charles James (1906--1978). Charles James: Beyond Fashion explores James's design process, focusing on his use of sculptural, scientific, and mathematical approaches to construct revolutionary ball gowns and innovative tailoring that continue to influence designers today. Approximately seventy-five of James's most notable designs are presented in two locations—the new Lizzie and Jonathan Tisch Gallery in the Anna Wintour Costume Center as well as special exhibition galleries on the Museum's first floor. "Charles James: Beyond Fashion" will explore James's design process, focusing on his use of sculptural, scientific, and mathematical approaches to construct revolutionary ball gowns and innovative tailoring that continue to influence designers today. Approximately seventy-five of James's most notable designs will be presented in two locations—the new Lizzie and Jonathan Tisch Gallery in the Anna Wintour Costume Center as well as special exhibition galleries on the Museum's first floor. After designing in his native London, and then Paris, James arrived in New York City in 1940. Though he had no formal training, he is now regarded as one of the greatest designers in America to have worked in the tradition of the Haute Couture. His fascination with complex cut and seaming led to the creation of key design elements that he updated throughout his career: wrap-over trousers, figure-eight skirts, body-hugging sheaths, ribbon capes and dresses, spiral-cut garments, and poufs. These, along with his iconic ball gowns from the late 1940s and early 1950s—the "Four-Leaf Clover," "Butterfly," "Tree," "Swan," and "Diamond"—will be showcased in the exhibition YOUTUBE CHANNEL: http://www.youtube.com/fashionchannel WEB TV: http://www.fashionchannel.it/en/web-tv FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/fashionchannelmilano TWITTER: https://twitter.com/FashionChannelP PINTEREST: http://pinterest.com/fashionchannel INSTAGRAM: http://instagram.com/fashionchanneltv The best videos, the most exclusive moments of the international runway since 1982 until now, of the most representative fashion weeks of the world. Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty - Gallery Views 2011

08:31
Learn more about Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty on view at the Met May 4--July 31, 2011: http://blog.metmuseum.org/alexandermcqueen/ The exhibition, organized by The Costume Institute, celebrates the late Alexander McQueen's extraordinary contributions to fashion. From his Central Saint Martins postgraduate collection of 1992 to his final runway presentation, which took place after his death in February 2010, Mr. McQueen challenged and expanded the understanding of fashion beyond utility to a conceptual expression of culture, politics, and identity. His iconic designs constitute the work of an artist whose medium of expression was fashion. The exhibition will feature approximately one hundred ensembles and seventy accessories from Mr. McQueen's prolific nineteen-year career. Drawn primarily from the Alexander McQueen Archive in London, with some pieces from the Givenchy Archive in Paris as well as private collections, signature designs including the "bumster" trouser, the kimono jacket, and the three-point "origami" frock coat will be on view. McQueen's fashions often referenced the exaggerated silhouettes of the 1860s, 1880s, 1890s, and 1950s, but his technical ingenuity always imbued his designs with an innovative sensibility that kept him at the vanguard. Visit http://voyage.tv/ for the best HD travel videos in the world. Situated at the southwest corner of Columbus Circle, the Museum of Arts and Design is a polarizing structure. Before you enter, be sure to take a good look at the building, a work of functional art in itself. More than 20,000 custom ceramic tiles finished in a white iridescent glaze make up the facade creating an ever-changing reflection based on natural light. A formerly windowless building that was renovated in 2008 to house the museum, the structure now features bands of glass that weave across the front of the building. Enter the light-filled space and find a collection focused on form and function. This is art, just not of the traditional variety. Jewelry, glassware, textiles, furniture and decorative objects all hold esteem here. But before dismissing these pieces as glorified flea market finds, its important to know, the art here is not quite everyday. Artists earn their place in this New York museum only if their work is unique, groundbreaking and/or exceptional as deemed by the established and respected curators. You may not know most of the names found here, but you will definitely be intrigued by their creations. The museum also offers a ton of interactive and alternative programming, including film screenings, family workshops and free lectures by guest speakers, like former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. After you toil through the exhibition floors, head up to the ninth story where the restaurant welcomes you with not only food, but also glorious views of Central Park.

Chinese Fashion Highlighted at New York Museum

02:01
Many of the Chinese fashion designs worn by many of the world's most glamorous celebrities in walking the red carpet at the Met Ball Gala 2015 are now put on display in an exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. With the theme "China: Through the Looking Glass", the annual fashion exhibition, sponsored by the museum's Costume Institute, is the largest ever in terms of exhibition area that showcases the impact of Chinese stereotypes on Western designers. Andrew Bolton, curator of the Costume Institute, said Chinese fashion and Chinese designs have long influenced the rest of the world. "The history of the impact of China goes back to the Roman Empire but I would say the heyday of chinoiserie, which is what we are really looking at in the exhibition, was the mid-18th century," said Bolton. Most of the designs in the exhibition were created in the 20th century. Some pieces were inspired by Chairman Mao, and the bulk of the show features lush fabrics and glamorous designs. One of the highlights is the Blue Porcelain Gallery, which shows the history of China and the West through porcelain that served as a big inspiration for designers. One famous dress was created by Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel in 1984, and works by Jean Paul Gaultier, Yves St-Laurent and Alexander McQueen are among the 140 objects on display in the exhibition. Chinese designer Guo Pei is also represented. However, according to Bolton, one designer topped all the others when it came to using China as an inspiration. "I think Galliano, more than any other designer, since very early on, even before his Dior days, was inspired by China and continues to be," said Bolton. A whole room of the exhibition has been dedicated to Galliano's China-themed work. The exhibition pays homage to Chinese-American actress Anna May Wong, who eventually left Hollywood after growing tired of perpetuating Chinese stereotypes. Bolton said films have played a huge role in forming the vision of China, which designers use as an inspiration, adding that designers tend to be more interested in the aesthetics of China rather than in the country itself. "A lot of what you see in the exhibition here is not accurate. It's very much seen through the gaze of the Westerner, and it's something that has been lost in translation. So again, it's something we tackle, the idea of objects being inspiring, China being inspiring to the West but how that can often lead to sometimes quite damaging sort of stereotypes," said Bolton. Whether the show is successful in changing some of those stereotypes will be up for viewers to decide. The exhibition will last through August 16. Jewish Museum in New York City Hosts Isaac Mizrahi's First Museum Show

00:57
Jason Frank Rothenberg The Jewish Museum is hosting a retrospective of designer Isaac Mizrahi's clothes--what impresses is his longevity and originality. When it comes to fashion, designer Isaac Mizrahi’s approach is no color left behind. This is evident from the first step on to the second floor at The Jewish Museum in New York City where the all-American designer is the subject of his first ever museum show. Isaac Mizrahi: An Unruly History(on view through August 7) opens with a giant wall displaying the designer’s collection of fabric swatches that he has been collecting, collating, and archiving since the late 1980s. http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/thedailybeast/articles/~3/gBiNZb_I-Hc/the-fashionable-magic-of-isaac-mizrahi.html http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit Entertainment using http://wochit.com

Margot Robbie joins other celebrities for Chanel's fall show

She's knows how to stand out as a red carpet regular with A-list style to match. And Margot Robbie was a vision of beauty on arrival at Chanel's Metiers d'Art fashion show at the Metropolitan Museum Of Art, in New York City on Tuesday. The Oscar nominee, 28, was effortlessly chic in a ruffling black bib-front number by the French fashion house during the red carpet affair where she joined a slew of Hollywood's biggest stars Penelope Cruz and Diane Kruger. Punk takes over New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art - lemag

01:52
http://www.euronews.com/ This year's Costume Institute Exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York is devoted to all things punk. Punk began in the late 1970s as an anti-establishment backlash against prefabricated plastic pop music and extended throughout the 1980s to other creative disciplines, including fashion, until eventually it in its turn became establishment. Andrew Bolton, the exhibition's curator said: "Punk was all about celebrating the individual. Celebrating creativity and not being afraid to be brave in your self-presentation. And to be brave in your fashion statements. Punk was all about challenging the status quo and challenging what we mean by beauty. And I think all those elements have very much impacted fashion." Raw seams, deliberate tearing and slicing, safety pins, razor blades, and outrageous hair colours were some of the hallmarks of punk. British designer Zandra Rhodes was one of those who embraced this new freedom within design. She said: "Why shouldn't a tear and a safety pin and chain be as fabulous as using sequins and colour? So it was for me an adventure, into black into chains and safety pins. Of course, I can't say that it was a great seller from my end of the couture market. But they're now collector's pieces." The exhibition fills seven galleries and includes homages to New York punk club CBGB as well as to London's contribution to the scene - especially Malcolm McClaren and Vivienne Westwood. Punk: Chaos to Couture, runs until 14th August For more information see: http://www.metmuseum.org/about-the-museum/press-room/exhibitions/2012/punk-chaos-to-couture Find us on: Youtube http://bit.ly/zr3upY Facebook http://www.facebook.com/euronews.fans Twitter http://twitter.com/euronews
