Viewing US Nautical Charts on Google Earth
A slick way to do echart navigation on google earth, as well as viewing all NOAA charts and even a fast way to download the RNC versions. NOTE: WE UPDATED THE LINK BELOW JAN 16, 2018 (thanks to PorcineJim ) Main link at NOAA describing the process https://nauticalcharts.noaa.gov/data/gis-data-and-services.html#seamless-raster-nautical-chart-services Direct link to the Google Earth file we need https://seamlessrnc.nauticalcharts.noaa.gov/rnc/noaa_rncs.kmz ( Note this only works with US charts because they offer free echarts, whereas most other nations do not. Brazil may be an exception, but they do not offer the Google Earth function that i know of. )

How did early Sailors navigate the Oceans? | The Curious Engineer
Do you know how the early sailors navigate the oceans? The technology today makes it real easy to navigate the oceans. But it's very interesting to know how the early sailors managed to navigate without it. There's a lot of history on it. I tried my best to compile some important and interesting parts of it into this video. The map has two kinds of image displays: raster and vector. IMO (International Maritime Organization) - is linked to the electronic ticket and imposes the use of vector map in ECDIS due to the possibility of integration of the maps with other devices in the IBS (Integrated Bridge System) 2. ARPA (Automatic Radar Plotting Aids) It is a device used for the detection of other objects in the area and for avoiding them. The machine itself is connected to a Doppler log and Gyro compass it has the possibility of overlap with the navigation map which is good to verify the position of the ship. 3.
