We live in times of unprecedented, disruptive change and uncertainty and most people find it challenging to thrive in those circumstances. If ‘design thinking’ is the new black, then thinking like a fashion design may just be the next big thing! This talk takes the idea of design thinking and translates it into a series of very practical tips that you can employ yourself, every day to help you think more optimistically in times of uncertainty and ambiguity. Professor Suzi Vaughan has settled (for now) in Brisbane, Australia having studied, lived and worked in Europe and Asia. After graduating from St Martins School of Art in London with a Ba Hons in Fashion, she started her professional career as a fashion designer, later moving into fashion education. Since 2011 she has been part of the executive team of a large Australian university. With over thirty years’ experience of design practice and teaching, she has become an advocate for the power and potential of design thinking. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx

Email marketing is still one of the best ways to engage with your audience. In this video, we are going to discuss 7 types of email marketing campaigns that all fashion designers should be running automatically, 24/7. They are: 1 - The Welcome Series emails 2 - Post Purchase Engagement 3 - Event Triggered emails 4 - Shopping Cart Abandonment emails 5 - Re-engagement marketing 6 - Newsletter or monthly digest 7 - Testimonial email campaign The Welcome series: - These are the set of emails that you send when someone subscribes to your content. Most brands would send 1 email and then stop. But you have an opportunity to send 3, 4 or 5 emails to develop familiarity with the new subscriber. Post Purchase engagement: - When used well, post purchase email marketing campaigns can help develop rapport among the customer and incentivize them for their future purchases. But, don't start selling them more products right after they have made a purchase. Use this opportunity to share proper content with them, that help them engage better with your product or solves a problem for them. Event Triggered Emails: - When you use automated email marketing, you can have a user’s action trigger a series of emails that you know will be targeted and relevant to them. Use these to get the user thru different flow, depending on how they engaged with your website. Shopping cart abandonment: - if customers visit your checkout page but don't buy, you can use email re-targeting to bring them back to your site with a coupon or free shipping offers. Re-engagement marketing: - Let’s say a segment of your list hasn’t opened an email in at least 6 - 9 months. Your re-engagement campaign to either re-engage them OR remove them from your email list. Newsletter emails: - Use these to keep the customer aware of what is going on with your brand and keep them engaged. They are the core of any email marketing campaign. Testimonial emails: - Some of the best tools you have for getting more sales are your current happy customers. Now, the question is, are you even using them in your campaigns. Every fashion designer or fashion business should have at least these 7 email marketing campaigns running automatically at all times. So that you don't have to keep doing them manually and it keeps your customers engaged.

"When you go to a big university or college, you are just a number. At Lethbridge College, you actually have a name and a face to go with it. You get the attention you need. I always felt like I was part of the college and community and especially the fashion program. The instructors at Lethbridge College were great. They explained everything -- you learn everything here. You have lots of one-on-one time and the classes are small. When I graduated from the college, I was ready to go to work."
