The New York Society Library presents Literary Magazine Salon: Tweed's Magazine of Literature and Art https://www.nysoclib.org/events/literary-magazine-salon-tweeds-magazine-literature-and-art Tweed’s Magazine of Literature & Art is a bi-annual publication that publishes fiction, interviews, essay, poetry, and art. They aim to feature content that is socially and politically relevant, with topics such as climate change, gender bias, fundamentalism, and the social injustices caused by free-market capitalism. The first two issues of Tweed’s feature Edwidge Danticat, Joyce Carol Oates, Lydia Davis, Charles Simic, Reza Aslan, Siri Hustvedt, C.K. Williams, Amy Grace Loyd, John Freeman, Sjón, and many more.
The Works:Literature & art exhibition on food culture, artist Chinyee & Norwegian music: Trondheim S

21:14
For many of us the past holiday season was a time to meet friends and families and sit down for a feast, but no matter how much we like eating I wonder how many of us reflected on how closely integrated food and individual cultures are. Given its long history and it’s many different regions and climates, Chinese has a particularly diverse food culture. However, there are underlying foundations such as the “Four States” and the “Five Flavours”. At the Hong Kong Arts Centre until 17th of this month you can visit an exhibition centred on food culture, literature and the visual arts. Chinese American artist Chinyee is known for fusing influences from East and West in her abstract paintings. Her brushstrokes are full of colour, spontaneity and fluidity. At 90, Chinyee recently visited Hong Kong to open her exhibition, “Dances of the Inner Being” at Alisan Fine Arts. Cellist Trey Lee is constantly on the road, travelling to different parts of the world to play music. But every year for the past six years, he’s dedicated some of his time to returning to Hong Kong to organise his annual music festival, Musicus Fest. In November, he visited The Works studio with guitarist Eugene Pao and treated us to their arrangement of a Piazzolla tango piece. But the four-day festival also featured Scandinavian music, including Norwegian music performed by the Grammy nominated Trondheim Soloists and nyckelharpa player, Emilia Amper.

Literature: The Art of Storytelling

01:32
The ancient philosophers referred to the human race as “the speaker.” From the moment we are born, we are telling a story to ourselves and to others—the story that becomes the reality of our lives. When we master the art of how words become a narrative, we become “partners with God in Creation.” Instead of passive recipients of whatever life sends our way, we become active innovators in creating the significance of our own existence, and of Creation as a whole.
