Introduction to Oracle Listener

16:41
https://dbagenesis.com/p/oracle-11g-advanced-dba DBA Genesis provides all you need to build and manage effective Oracle technology learning. We designed DBA Genesis as a simple to use yet powerful online Oracle learning system for students. Each of our courses is taught by an expert instructor, and every course is available on demand. A listener is a separate process than your database processes which runs on the database server to accept incoming connections. Any client connection first lands on to database listener and then its handed over to the PMON process. All the databases running on a server must have their services registered with the listener or else listener will not be able to accept the incoming connections.

Load-Balancing a RAC Database

01:05:46
RAC environments are very complex ones and include many different components. One of the goals of RAC database is to balance the load between the different instances and listeners. In this session we will dive into the load balancing mechanism. We will talk about the client configuration, SCAN listeners, services and more, and see some guidelines and best practices to better utilize the balance between the nodes. Configuring Listener in Oracle 11g

02:44
The listener processes on a server detect incoming requests from clients for connection - by default on port 1521 and manage network-traffic once clients have connected to an Oracle database. The listener uses a configuration-file - listener.ora - to help keep track of names, protocols, services and hosts.

How to configure listener in Oracle 11g on Redhat

07:31
A listener is configured with one or more listening protocol addresses, information about supported services, and parameters that control its run-time behavior. The listener configuration is stored in a configuration file named listener.ora. Because all of the configuration parameters have default values, it is possible to start and use a listener with no configuration. This default listener has a name of LISTENER, supports no services on startup, and listens on the following TCP/IP protocol address: (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=host_name)(PORT=1521)) The listener forwards client requests to supported services. These services can be configured statically in the listener.ora file or they can be dynamically registered with the listener. This dynamic registration feature is called service registration. The registration is performed by the PMON process, an instance background process of each database instance that is configured in the database initialization parameter file. Dynamic service registration does not require any manual configuration in the listener.ora file. Service registration offers the following benefits: Simplified configuration Service registration reduces the need for the SID_LIST_listener_name parameter setting, which specifies information about the databases served by the listener, in the listener.ora file.
