1. HTML5 Custom Video Player Controls JavaScript Programming Tutorial

14:03
Lesson Code: http://www.developphp.com/video/JavaScript/Video-Player-Custom-Controls-Programming-Tutorial In this first part of the tutorial series we will discuss how to set up a custom controls interface starting with the play/pause button. Customizing the HTML5 video controls interface will allow you to achieve a unique and constant look for your video player in all browser software. Different browser software display different looking default controls for the video element. You can also offer your custom programmed video players to others to use on their websites if they also do not want to use the stock controls that are native to browser software for the video element. We use JavaScript to control the video after we remove the default controls. We used to do very similar things in Flash AS3 if you remember. We are going to begin with disabling the default control bar and setting up our own control bar design using a DIV that we can place all of our video controls into as we create them. In this part 1 we will add a play/pause button to the control bar, then in the videos that follow we will customize more aspects of video control interfacing.

HTML Tutorial: Easy Way to Use Images with HTML and CSS Website

08:37
Let's dive into how we can use images in this HTML tutorial. And specifically, we are gonna take a logo and we're gonna place it here at the top of this nav bar for this website. We're gonna see how we can import the image and how we can select it using CSS and then also how we can style it and customize its size. If you want to, you can use your own logo or you can use one of the demo ones that I have here, and I'll include a link to the show notes for you. The very first thing you can do is open this up and you can see we have a dark version and then a white version. And for this specific background, we really need to use the white version. So right-click on this and then click Save Image As and you can keep the name exactly the same and then place it inside of your project. Now, you can just hit Save right now, but then we'll also customize exactly where it's at so that we can see the path and so we can organize it properly. So if we switch back here and then go to the code, I'm gonna place this above all the other nav links here and let's just call it Banner Image. So this is going to be a wrapper div. And then I want to use an image tag. So if you're using Visual Studio Code, you can type, "IMG," hit tab, and this is gonna give you the values that you want. Now because we place this at the root of our project, you can see that we have this Dev Camp Fantastic Fries logo dash white right here. And so we could just grab this value. And so let me actually copy that name so that I'm not typing it out verbatim. And then you can place that inside of this SRC tag. Now this SRC tag, it stands for Source, which means that we're telling the image tag that the source of this image is this path. And then we'll play around with how we can place this image inside a different part of the project. Now we also have this ALT tag. So here I'm going to say the logo. Now technically you could say anything that you wanted right here. The rational for the ALT tag is there's a couple reasons. One is if someone has disabled images in their browser, then the ALT tag will show up instead of the image, but the most common reason for using the ALT tag is for accessibility reasons. So if someone, say someone whose blind is going through your site and the way it works is there's systems out there that will read things like the ALT tags in your content. If you leave the ALT tag blank, then they're not gonna know that a logo was there. So that's part of the reason. Google also reads through this for search engine optimization reasons. So it's always good to put some kind of value here that describes what the logo is or that a logo is there. So that is gonna give us our basic import so let's go back and hit refresh. And wow, you can see, that is imported, but that's definitely not what we're looking for. And that's fine, that's what were expected. This is gonna take a. by default, the way that HTML works is it brings in the image and it does not do anything to it. It doesn't try to make it fit or anything like that. That is our job. So now let's see how we can select this image. So we know that we have a class here called "Banner Image." And there are a couple different ways that we could customize it. So I could come here and ... let me give us a little bit more room. So I could come in the tag itself and just say that I want to provide a hard coded with in line. So here I could say "With" and for this kind of size, the value that I saw looked the best was something like 216 pixels. And then let's give it a hight and the height here, you can combine pixels and percentages. So for the height here I could say just 100%. What this means is that we are controlling the width, we're saying how wide it should be, and then we're telling the height to just be automatic. So I'll hit save and now if I hit refresh, you can see that works and that looks really good. And that's perfectly fine. I usually don't do it this exact way. The approach I usually take is to apply a actual CSS class to it. So if I have my banner image here, what I can do is come down to the bottom of the CSS file and say "Banner dash image" and then I want to select the image tag inside of that. And now I can apply the exact same rules. So here I can say with and we wanna go with that 216 pixels and then for the height 100%, hit save, go back and hit refresh, and you can see that is working properly. So that's just my own personal preference. Part of the reason is because I don't really like my images to get really messy and the more code that you put inside of this tag, the longer it's gonna be for you to find it when you need to fix it and also just starts to look a little bit cluttered. How to center an image in HTML

05:13
Hey guys, my book CSS Visual Dictionary – https://www.amazon.com/dp/1983065633 Explains all of this and more with 150+ visual diagrams in detail! In this tutorial I am going to briefly go over how to center align an image in HTML. Placing the image in the middle of your page, can be done via inline CSS "style" attribute within the element tag. Centered images can also be done by wrapping the element in "center" tags. The result of this code is an image nicely aligned to the middle of the screen in your browser. All you need to start is your favorite text editor and Chrome (or other) browser. You can use the HTML center tag, but more commonly web developers use style attribute to accomplish the same task. The quick HTML way is, just be careful because although it is becoming outdated in HTML5 it will still work. <center><img src = "lion.jpg"></center> Using CSS attribute: <img src = "lion.jpg" style = "display:block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"> or <img src = "lion.jpg" style = "display: block; margin: 0 auto;"> Or use the same CSS code within "style" attribute, but move it to your style tag inside the head tag, in your HTML page: <style type = "text/css"> img { display: block; margin: 0 auto; } </style>

HTML SRC Attribute Is Used To Embed Images On HTML Pages

02:44
HTML SRC Attribute Is Used To Embed Images On HTML Pages https://youtu.be/j4D336enzWw HTML src attribute is used to embed images using the HTML image tag. SRC is short for source. The value of the source attribute is always a link to an image when in the image tag. It can be a relative URL or an absolute URL to the image. The relative URL doesn't contain the website's domain name. The absolute URL does include the website's domain name. If the URL in src is not correct then the image will not be displayed. If you have the ALT attribute for the image defined then its' text will be displayed in place of the image. That's all there is to it. I hope this video helps you! Where should the script tag be placed in html

09:40
Link for all dot net and sql server video tutorial playlists http://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists Link for slides, code samples and text version of the video http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2014/11/where-should-script-tag-be-placed-in.html In this video we will discuss, where should the script tag be placed in the html. Should it be placed in the body or head section of the page. In general the script tag can be placed either in the head or body section. Let's look at a few examples : Example 1 : Script tag in the head section [html] [head] [script type="text/javascript"] alert("Welcome to JavaScript Tutorial"); [/script] [/head] [body] [form id="form1" runat="server"] [/form] [/body] [/html] Example 2 : Script tag in the body section [html] [head] [/head] [body] [form id="form1" runat="server"] [/form] [script type="text/javascript"] alert("Welcome to JavaScript Tutorial"); [/script] [/body] [/html] In Example 1 we placed the script tag in the head section and in Example 2, we placed it in body section. In both the cases JavaScript works as expected. Example 3 : Sets the background color of the TextBox to red. [html] [head] [/head] [body] [form id="form1" runat="server"] [asp:TextBox ID="TextBox1" runat="server"][/asp:TextBox] [/form] [script type="text/javascript"] document.getElementById("TextBox1").style.backgroundColor = "red"; [/script] [/body] [/html] Example 4 : This is same as Example 3, except we moved the script tag to the head section. In this case the script will not work as expected. Depending on the browser you are using you get one of the following JavaScript error. Firefox - TypeError: document.getElementById(...) is null Chrome - Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'style' of null IE - Unable to get property 'style' of undefined or null reference To see these JavaScript errors press F12 which launches developer tools. F12 works for all the 3 browsers. [html] [head] [script type="text/javascript"] document.getElementById("TextBox1").style.backgroundColor = "red"; [/script] [/head] [body] [form id="form1" runat="server"] [asp:TextBox ID="TextBox1" runat="server"][/asp:TextBox] [/form] [/body] [/html] Why did the JavaScript did not work in this case JavaScript code is present before the textbox control. By the time the JavaScript code is executed, the textbox is still not loaded into browser DOM (Document Object Model). This is the reason JavaScript can't find the textbox and throws a NULL reference error. In Part 6, we discussed that, in general it is a good practice to store JavaScript in an external .js file. So, if the JavaScript is present in an external file and if you are referencing it on a page using [script] element, where should such [script] element be placed. To answer this question, first let's understand what happens when a browser starts loading a web page. 1. The browser starts parsing the HTML 2. When the parser encounters a [script] tag that references an external JavaScript file. The parser stops parsing the HTML and the browser makes a request to download the script file. Until the download is complete, the parser is blocked from parsing the rest of the HTML on the page. 3. When the download is complete, that's when the parser will resume to parse the rest of the HTML. This means the page loading is stopped until all the scripts are loaded which affects user experience. In general, the suggested good practice is to place the [script] tag just before the closing [body] tag, so it doesn't block the HTML parser. However, modern browsers support async and defer attributes on scripts. These attributes tell the browser it's safe to continue parsing while the scripts are being downloaded. But even with these attributes, from a performance standpoint it is still better to place [script] tag just before closing [body] tag. According to HTTP/1.1 specification browsers download no more than two components in parallel. So, if the page has several images to download and if you place [script] tags at the top of the page, the script files start to download first which blocks the images download which adds to the total page load time.
