How a Dior Dress is Made | Visionaire | Refinery29
Subscribe to the Refinery29 channel: http://bit.ly/subscribe-to-r29 “Couture” is a magic word. It conjures thoughts of impeccable craftsmanship, visionary design, and legendary fashion moments. But, most of us don't encounter haute couture very often, unless we're looking at a celebrity on the red carpet, a model on a catwalk, or a mannequin in a museum case. We wanted to get closer to couture — and to get you closer to couture — so we partnered with the legendary fashion publisher Visionaire to create this video, which tells the story of one dress from birth to runway. It’s a unique look inside the Dior atelier, where the team has been hard at work bringing creative director Raf Simons’ ideas to life. While an individual couture garment can take half a year to produce, here you will see the story of one dress (“Look #53,” in fashion-speak) come together in just a few minutes — from the first muslin pattern to the final style model Kinga Rajzak wore during yesterday’s haute couture show. It’s an incredible revelation, and when you discover what goes into these garments, the crazy prices on couture start to seem at least a little less crazy. While Look #53 is the star of the show, the video gives us the chance to reconnect with the rarely credited artisans and seamstresses we saw in Dior and I, as well as a cameo from Simons himself. Think of this as a mini-trip to Paris or a crash course into fashion’s highest form; either way, enjoy your couture, concentrated. It's no exaggeration that Claude Montana shaped the look of the 1980s, but the radical designer also tore away from the exalted and impenetrable world of the fashion aristocracy. Influential and revered, his attitude and approach to design and creativity made him a pioneer of the era; a sans-culotte who overthrew the bastille of contemporary high culture. In this new documentary, in collaboration with Farfetch and arbiters of contemporary vintage fashion Byronesque—who have joined forces on a limited edition reissue collection of signature designs from the French house—we revisit Montana’s legacy and explode the belief that it was just about shoulder pads and color-blocking. Instead, Claude Montana emerges as a truly innovative designer whose influence has continued into the modern era, finding inheritors among the likes of Marc Jacobs, Balenciaga, and the avant-garde styles of Rick Owens. And in particular, Gareth Pugh, who partners with Byronesque as creative consultant to bring Montana pieces back for the first time in over 20 years. Prior to Claude Montana's explosive entry on the scene, fashion shows were gilded and exclusive affairs. The French auteur played to the gallery with spectacular and immersive shows that created waves among fashion followers and the press alike—fulfilling his ambition to make the industry relevant, sexy, and fun. As a result, the seductiveness of his collections gained a loyal and often manic fanbase. It’s no wonder, as one collaborator recalls, that “people used to bang down Montana’s doors to be allowed in.” Shop Now on Farfetch - https://bit.ly/2RV0cPS ___ Subscribe to NOWNESS here: http://bit.ly/youtube-nowness Like NOWNESS on Facebook: http://bit.ly/facebook-nowness Follow NOWNESS on Twitter: http://bit.ly/twitter-nowness Daily exclusives for the culturally curious: http://bit.ly/nowness-com Behind the scenes on Instagram: http://bit.ly/instagram-nowness Curated stories on Tumblr: http://bit.ly/tumblr-nowness Inspiration on Pinterest: http://bit.ly/pinterest-nowness Staff Picks on Vimeo: http://bit.ly/vimeo-nowness Subscribe on Dailymotion: http://www.dailymotion.com/nowness Follow NOWNESS on Google+: http://bit.ly/google-nowness

Chanel in London, Fashion HOT Luxury
Chanel S.A. (/ʃəˈnɛl/; French: [ʃa'nɛl]) is the French house of high fashion that specializes in haute couture and ready-to-wear clothes, luxury goods, and fashion accessories.[1][2] In her youth, the couturière Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel gained the soubriquet "Coco" while a chanteuse de café in provincial France. As a fashion designer, Coco Chanel catered to women's taste for elegance in dress, with blouses and suits, trousers and dresses, and jewellry (gemstone and bijouterie) of simple design, that replaced the opulent, over-designed, and constrictive clothes and accessories of 19th-century fashion. Historically, the House of Chanel is most famous for the stylistically versatile "little black dress", the perfume No. 5 de Chanel and the Chanel Suit. As a business enterprise, Chanel S.A. is a privately held company owned by Alain Wertheimer and Gerard Wertheimer, grandsons of Pierre Wertheimer, an early business partner of Coco Chanel. Commercially, the brands of the House of Chanel have been personified by fashion models and actresses, by women such as Inès de la Fressange, Catherine Deneuve, Carole Bouquet, Vanessa Paradis, Nicole Kidman, Anna Mouglalis, Lucía Hiriart, Audrey Tautou, Keira Knightley and Marilyn Monroe, who epitomise the independent, self-confident Chanel Girl.

15 MOST Luxurious Fashion Brands
From Oscar de la Renta to Chanel, here are some of the most lavish and prestigious fashion brands. Subscribe to Hindered Thoughts http://goo.gl/d3U3RP 6. Chanel The high fashion wear company was introduced to the world back in 1909 by none other than Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel, otherwise known as “Coco Chanel.” This is where the brand gets its inspiration for the famously recognizable logo that is two interlocking C’s. The company specializes in creating haute couture for its wealthy clients but also for fashion models like Naomi Campbell, who once modeled for them, and actresses Marilyn Monroe, Keira Knightley, and Nicole Kidman. One of their most famous products is the perfume No. 5 de Chanel, along with the Chanel Suit. Today, Chanel is valued at being $6.8 billion dollars. An interesting fact to note is that Karl Lagerfeld, the creative director behind Fendi, happens to be the creative director for Chanel as well. 5. Prada Founded back in 1913 by Mario Prada, this fashion brand actually started out by manufacturing leather bags and trunks. It would then evolve into selling everything from clothing to perfume and even a brief stint of LG Prada cell phones. Though the brand may have broadened its inventory, it still spends the majority of its focus creating some of the world’s most exclusive handbags that only the rich and famous can possibly hope to afford. Mario Prada believed that women should not be involved in business so he excluded his own family members from getting involved. In a fantastic twist of irony, his son did not care to run the business so his daughter Luisa Prada took over as his successor and is now currently being run by her daughter Miuccia. 4. House of Versace The fashion empire that is the House of Versace all started with fashion designer Gianni Versace back in 1978. He created a brand that has been synonymous with elegance and simply oozes high fashion. His glamorous gowns have gone on to make a name for himself as a respected designer. Like the case of the famous black dress held with gold safety pins that actress Elizabeth Hurley wore back in 1994 to the premiere of Four Weddings and A Funeral. Sadly, Versace’s life was cut short in 1997 on the steps of his Miami mansion when he became the fifth and final victim of Andrew Cunanan. The tragic event will be the story behind American Crime Story’s season 2 titled: The Assassination of Gianni Versace. After his death, his sister Donatella became the new Artistic Director and has established a $5.5 billion company her brother would be proud of. 3. Gucci Started in 1921 by a Mr. Guccio Gucci, the company was originally dabbing in leather goods. It wasn’t until 19 years later when his son Aldo would take the company from being a one-stop shop into the fashion powerhouse that it’s now known for being. It’s Aldo that would usher in the era of the brand’s iconic “Bamboo Bag” and its “ready to wear segments.” In the 90’s, the company decided to bring American Fashion designer Tom Ford to revamp their women’s wear. He ended up helping launch the brand to where it is today. The fashion brand houses other well-known designers in its collections such as Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney, and Yves Saint Laurent. If you’re in the market to do some shopping at this $12.4 billion brand, expect to spend at least $2,000. 2. Louis Vuitton This may come as a shock but the famous fashion brand has been around longer than you might have thought. Formed 163 years ago in 1854, a young man by the name of Louis Vuitton started out as an apprentice for a box-maker. Vuitton ended up becoming a well-known crafter of luxury trunks and opened up his own shop in Paris. He then ended up becoming the personal box-maker of Napoleon III’s wife, Empress Eugenie de Montijo. Fast forward years later and the company is now worth $28.1 billion with a generated revenue of $10.1 billion. Today, Louis Vuitton doesn’t make just trunks but designer handbags and clothing that can be spotted on the most famous of A-listers. 1. Balenciaga The beginning of Balenciaga’s reign began back in 1919 when it was established by its founder of the same name, Cristóbal Balenciaga. As a young child, Balenciaga became an apprentice to a tailor in his hometown of Getaria, Spain and would eventually get his formal training in Madrid. He would go on to create the House of Balenciaga and skyrocketed to success thanks to his artistic genius. He was hailed as the undisputed “ King of Fashion” and was highly respected among his peers which included the likes of Coco Chanel, Christian Dior, and Pierre Balmain. Balenciaga even helped train the likes of high-fashion designers Oscar de la Renta and Hubert Givenchy to name a few.

CHANEL Making of the Fall 2016 Haute Couture Paris by Fashion Channel
Without the virtuosity of its petites mains working in the secrecy of the ateliers, Haute Couture wouldn’t have its unique and incomparable brilliance. At CHANEL their expertise is deployed in two tailleur ateliers and two flou ateliers [tailoring and dressmaking]. Karl Lagerfeld wished to pay them tribute by dedicating to them the Fall-Winter 2016/17 CHANEL Haute Couture collection presented this Tuesday on July 5th. So, beneath the glass roof of the Grand Palais, the ateliers on the rue Cambon have been recreated down to the smallest detail. Tables, sewing machines, mirrors, pins, fabrics, multi-coloured threads, toiles and mannequins: the inner world of seamstresses is put under the spotlight and animated before the audience by the premières of the ateliers, followed by their seconds and the 78 seamstresses from the House of CHANEL which counts more than 120. “I thought that was a modern idea to make them participate. They should be shown too.” This season the cut is defined by a sleek, pure silhouette. It forms the thread running through a structured and graphic collection. Beveled or angular cut shoulders, held with stitches create a “standing up” effect, framing a flat profile without any padding. The 3/4 length sleeves answer the 7/8 turn-ups hems of the culottes and wide-cut trousers worn over draped leather thigh boots. The tweed jackets highlight the waist with protruding pockets on the hips. Coat dresses and jacket dresses in tweed form games of trompe-l’œil. An ethereal hairstyle tied back with a grosgrain headband further enhances and blurs these strict and geometric shapes. For evening, the silhouette is inspired by the work of English illustrator Aubrey Beardsley. While shoulders and hems of dresses are adorned with crests of feathers, the high waists, sometimes punctuated with protruding pockets, smooth the silhouettes. Dresses flare out over soft cages, almost tracing a pencil line. The fabrics radzimir, ziberline, mikado, taffetas and faille are joined by chiffons, crêpe georgette, organza, silk tulle, embroidered laces and almost transparent grosgrains. The same refinement is reflected in the treatment of colour. Autumnal shades – browns, marron glacé, oranges, beige and greys – are nuanced and enriched with a palette of pinks, blacks and whites as block colours or woven in duos. The exacting perfection of Haute Couture is reflected in the minute details sometimes barely visible. Thus linings of protruding pockets are reworked, stitching is spun with fringed spirals and braids are plaited with tulle and tweed. The embroidery of stones, matt sequins, beads and feathers are combined and multiplied endlessly to create enchanting flowers and compose neck straps. Draping alternates with bias cut pleats as well as accordion, cone, sunray and flat pleats. Articulated jewellery is transformed into frogging and precious cuffs. The highlight of the collection is the bride. This season Karl Lagerfeld has imagined her in a bustier and trousers fashioned from lace, tulle and satin encrusted with strands of pink and white wool, and kept warm with jacket and train embroidered with feathers. As bearer of this tradition and guardian of a unique savoir-faire, Haute Couture embodies the primary vocation of CHANEL. More than ever it is a laboratory of ideas, the quintessence of creativity and dreams applauded this Tuesday, July 5th 2016 by CHANEL ambassadresses Vanessa Paradis, Willow Smith, Zhou Xun and Caroline de Maigret, actor Will Smith and actresses Jessica Chastain, Milla Jovovich and Hari Nef. #ChanelAteliers #ChanelHauteCouture YOUTUBE CHANNEL: http://www.youtube.com/fashionchannel WEB TV: http://www.fashionchannel.it/en/web-tv FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/fashionchannelmilano TWITTER: https://twitter.com/FashionChannelP PINTEREST: http://pinterest.com/fashionchannel INSTAGRAM: http://instagram.com/fashionchanneltv The best videos, the most exclusive moments of the international runway since 1982 until now, of the most representative fashion weeks of the world. Karl Lagerfeld - German fashion designer and icon | DW Documentary
The German-born designer Karl Lagerfeld has died at the age of 85. He was a designer, an artist and a fashion icon. For this sad occasion we recommend a portrait DW made in 2014. No living fashion designer, let alone a German one, was as celebrated as Karl Lagerfeld. On September 10, 2018 the man with the trademark ponytail and sunglasses celebrated his 85th birthday. From dawn to late morning, Karl Lagerfeld designs for Chanel, Fendi and his own signature brand - a combined workload of up to 15 collections a year. A workhorse who never takes breaks or even a vacation, he is also a photographer and filmmaker. His passion for fashion was awakened by a Dior show in Hamburg in 1950. Four years later, at the age of 17, Karl Lagerfeld was hired as an assistant to Pierre Balmain. Karl Lagerfeld recounts his beginnings in the industry, as well as his upper class background and childhood in Schleswig-Holstein. Karl Lagerfeld was greatly influenced by his mother, whom he describes as his personal style icon. Karl Lagerfeld's caustic comments were notorious and dreaded by those at the receiving end. As an artist, Karl Lagerfeld worked in several media, from pictures and photographs to book illustrations and videos. The documentary of 2015 follows Karl Lagerfeld to exhibition openings, during the hectic preparations for his fashion shows, and at photo shoots in Paris as it seeks to uncover the man behind the mask. _______ DW Documentary gives you knowledge beyond the headlines. English/Nat Paris is a buzz with the autumn collections on show from some the world's best designers. Included in Sunday's lineup were the collection from Italian designer Valentino, the French fashion house of Nina Ricci and the young French designer Olivier Lapidus. Italian designer Valentino unveiled his fashion collection for the upcoming autumn and winter. With supermodels such as Helena Christiansen, the Italian maestro revealed figure hugging outfits in metallic greys and earthy colours from slinky green to glimmering gold. With the occasional dash of classic red to set off a classic collection, Valentino was applauded loudly by the crowd before retiring backstage to personally thank each of his models with a kiss. British Supermodel Stella Tennant said is was that dash of something decadent that made his designs so appealing. SOUNDBITE: (English) "Some of it, it is a bit more flamboyant. I don't know, it is something that is a bit more decadent about the Italian style I think" SUPERCAPTION: Stella Tennant, Supermodel Another high fashion house with an Italian name is Nina Ricci, but it is a hundred per cent French. Gerard Pipard has been designing haute couture collections for many years now with his very elegant and traditional styles. A Chinese style red wrap lined with pink set off a classic evening dress so typical of his sophisticated taste. By way of a contrast were the funky frocks of the young French designer Olivier Lapidus, continuing in his father Ted's footsteps. His outfits mixed traditional designs with futuristic features such as this floor length gown topped with a hood. He said it was possible to give older designs a new feel by clever use of materials and techniques. One of his creations was a black and white silk raincoat or parka which incorporated a high-tech heating system. Clothing and styling tips If you are getting tired of your old clothes and you are looking for an affordable way to upgrade your wardrobe then we have the best clothing hacks for you. In this video, we show you how to repurpose any clothing items from your wardrobe into something completely new and fresh. This way you can change your style without spending a penny. -We show you an awesome way to turn your baggy trousers into an off-shoulder dress that you can wear for dinner or a fabulous night out. - If you like the color of your old hoodie but you are tired of wearing it. We demonstrate a step-by-step way to turn it into a skirt. You can then wear it casually when you go for a walk or during the summer. - If you are looking for a beautiful cropped top t-shirt look no further than your own closet. Take an old t-shirt you are no longer wearing and cut it from the middle, but leave the button stripe attached to it as we show you in the video. Then wear it and use that long stripe to tie it together as a t-shirt crop top. This one is ideal to wear during the summer for a refreshing fashionable look. - We also show you how to turn a plain sleeveless shirt into a backless evening shirt. You place your shirt on your working area and you cut the stripes off. Then, you attach the two stripes together and Voila. We also show you how to turn a sleeveless shirt into a beautiful romantic blouse using a stripe of lace. You simply cut the stripes off and you sew a long lace stripe all around the top of the shirt. With this sewing tutorial, you will turn a plain shirt into an off-shoulder blouse you can wear during your afternoon walk. - You can also transfer any piece of artwork or drawing on your plain white t-shirts to give them some color. You can do that by printing your design on a piece of printing paper and then you cover it with some cling film on both sides. Then, you place it on your shirt and you add some greaseproof paper and you iron it with your clothing iron. The iron will melt the cling film and attach your design on your shirt. Watch our whole video to discover many more amazing sewing hacks you can try. For example, how to turn a shirt into a cute thick bathroom rug or a wall tapestry or even how to turn your t-shirt into a bag. LOUIS VUITTON Cruise 2019 | French Riviera - Fashion Channel
LOUIS VUITTON Cruise 2019 | French Riviera - Fashion Channel The Marguerite and Aimé Maeght Foundation Overlooking the Colline des Gardettes’ hilltop, the formidable spirit of the Maeght family lives on. One can still sense the exhilarating escape of a community where painters, sculptors and artists created their artistic utopia. The collection reflects the bright originality of Aimé Maeght, the man who, as the Belgian artist Pierre Alechinsky said: “made dreams a reality”. Garments are a powerful means of expression: a free-form artwork, sometimes antagonistic, but that creates a unique picture. Unconventional marriages of style, referencing the couture of a century ago, harmonize with the present day. For Cruise 19, Louis Vuitton shakes up its codes. The collection meanders through the extraordinary Joan Miró labyrinth, complementing this unique maze. On this occasion, the House is proud to announce its collaboration with Grace Coddington. An iconic writer, illustrator, and fashion editor, Grace Coddington is well known for her love of animals, and particularly the cats she sketches so charmingly. For Louis Vuitton, she has created a line of accessories reprising her imaginary menagerie. “My collaboration with Nicolas and his team at Louis Vuitton has been so much fun. I hope it will be a dream come true for Pumpkin, Blanket and Nicolas’ dog - it certainly is for me. It started with our love for animals, it’s where Nicolas and I really connect beyond fashion,” said Grace Coddington. This exclusive capsule collection will arrive in stores in October 2018. The French artist Woodkid gives a live musical performance in the Giacometti Courtyard, bringing together instruments invented by the Baschet brothers. In the 1950s, they conducted acoustic experiments and created a family of sound structures based on the vibrations of glass and metal, which were especially reprised today. Woodkid also composed the soundtrack for the show, in which Jennifer Connelly reads extracts from the biography “Grace: A Memoir” by Grace Coddington (published by Random House). Watch Lanvin French Multinational High Fashion House Fashion Memior Only on Fashion Funky Fashion is a popular style or practice, especially in clothing, footwear, accessories, makeup, body or furniture. Fashion is a distinctive and often habitual trend in the style in which a person dresses. It is the prevailing styles in behaviour and the newest creations of textile designers. Because the more technical term costume is regularly linked to the term "fashion", the use of the former has been relegated to special senses like fancy dress or masquerade wear, while "fashion" generally means clothing, including the study of it. French/Mandarin Top international labels and rising Chinese designers hit the catwalks in Shanghai this weekend. China's growing economy has created new wealth and new demand for high fashion. While the western designers present attracted the most attention, the Chinese offerings showed both increasing market savvy and a better understanding of local taste. The Shanghai International Fashion fair got underway Friday with one the top ten french grand couturier Pierre Balmain. Top designers have been attracted to China as the world's fastest growing economy has created new demand for the finer things in life. On the programme of this fashion week in Shanghai were also big names like Lapidus and Nina Ricci. But for the french house of Pierre Balmain this was the first time to display some of his finest creation in China. Pierre Balmain style is already very successful in Asia especially in Japan but also in South East Asia so Shanghai was just next door. And no doubt that glamorous style can be successful among Chinese young women as well. Visiting China for the second time in 15 years was Oscar de La Renta, woman clothes designer for Pierre Balmain collection. The Dominican born designer, educated in Spain learnt most of his skill at the prestigious french house of Lanvin in the late 60's and 70's. Best example of this is this yellow womansuit, perfect example of french ultra-classic style. Oscar de La Renta said his styles, though imported, can suit Chinese women. SOUNDBITE: (French) I think we can bring a lot with our style here because the Chinese woman has become today a modern woman who has a great sense of elegance and a great sense of femininity. SUPER CAPTION: Oscar de La Renta, Pierre Balmain, Designer Among the few foreign models present, Lawrence Treil, Pierre Balmain top model of this year, had made the trip to Shanghai. Despite the huge price of his dress, between 10 000 and 40 000 US dollars, Pierre Balmain house is confident that soon, more and more Chinese women will be able to afford the french style. Oscar de La Renta said also that exchange with young Chinese designer could also be very interesting. With a 400 millions US dollars of business sales worldwide, the French house realised that it should be present on the Chinese market. Pierre Balmain announced plans to open a flagship store in the centre of Shanghai but also shows interest in the local production of high quality silk printing. But there was little or nothing french about the designs on offer at the Chinese show next door presenting the trend in China for spring and summer 1997. Using different materials but strongly dictated by colours the Chinese designs reflected an active style directed to a younger clientele. Hold for the second time, the shows displays the works of more than 50 young Chinese designers in four different themes : music notes at the frontier, Metropolis melody, Relaxing rhythm, Cadenza... Local designers and fashion industry officials said they need to revive Shanghai tradition of fashion, a city once called the "Paris of the Far East" due to the elegance of his residents. SOUNDBITE: (Mandarin) Now with the opening situation we have in China, Shanghai fashion industry should be connected to the international circle and join, participate in the international competitions. Organising this show today is a good opportunity for us to present our fashions products to the outside world and let them know about us. SUPER CAPTION: RONG Xia Xian, Fashion show art director Willingness to reestablish Shanghai as a fashion-hub both domestic and international is obvious in this line directly inspired from the Shanghai of the 30's. John Galliano returns to high-end fashion with new role
British designer John Galliano is to return to high-end fashion as creative director of French fashion house Maison Martin Margiela. Mr Galliano had been keeping a low profile since he was sacked from Christian Dior in 2011, after a video of him using anti-Semitic language in a drunken tirade was released. He is currently creative director at Russian perfumery chain L'Etoile. He also spent a three-week stint at designer Oscar de La Renta last year. "Margiela is ready for a new charismatic, creative soul," Renzo Rosso, whose OTB group controls the house, told industry journal Women's Wear Daily. "John Galliano is one of the greatest undisputed talents of all time. I look forward to his return to create that fashion dream that only he can create," he added. The 53-year-old designer is considered to be one of the most influential designers of his age and has been awarded the title of British Fashion Designer of the Year four times. He spent 15 years at Dior, but was sacked after footage of his drunken tirade was released. A Paris criminal court found him guilty of proffering anti-Semitic insults in public, an offence under French law, on two occasions in February 2011 and October 2010. Mr Galliano apologised and blamed his actions on drink and drugs.

Fashion designers in Paris on high fashion and sport
(6 Jul 2016) FOR WORKAHOLIC GIAMBATTISTA VALLI, SLEEP IS HIS 'FAVORITE SPORT' It's a big summer for sports in France, with the UEFA European football championship drawing to a close and cycling event Tour de France in its first week. But, in the world of high fashion, one designer's favorite sport is catching up on some much-needed sleep. "Sleep in my bed (is) my favorite sport ever," Giambattista Valli said on Monday (4 JULY 2016). The Italian designer creates six shows a year: two haute couture and two ready-to-wear for his namesake house, plus two extra ready-to-wear collections for Moncler Gamme Rouge. Designers work relentlessly ahead of Paris Fashion Week, with haute couture shows requiring a level of unsurpassed detailed craftsmanship. Paris is the only fashion city to hold haute couture shows. Currently, only 18 fashion houses are part of the very select couture circle, with nine additional guest members invited by the French Federation of Couture. Valli said haute couture is for "happy moments." "I mean you can dress with everything every day. You can dress everywhere today. It's for special moments or, in any case, it's like something extraordinary. So normally it's like for celebrations, parties whatever, so it's a little bit about this." And quite a celebration was had backstage after Valli's show, as Canadian recording artist Celine Dion made a rare fashion week appearance. The Grammy-winning artist said she was grateful to her stylist for bringing her to the show. "Wonderful for me to have seen what I just saw tonight. I want to thank my stylist Law Roach for bringing me out of my closet for 20 years. I do not attend any defile, very, very rarely." Also showing her latest collection in Paris - Iris van Herpen. Like Valli, the Dutch fashion designer isn't a big fan of sports, preferring dance instead. "For this collection, I collaborated with a choreographer," explained van Herpen after the show. "So to have the models move on their position. She's called Nanine Linning, so I'll tell her name as my favorite (sic), yeah." Finally, no fashion week would be complete without an appearance from Chanel and Fendi creative director Karl Lagerfeld. Speaking backstage at his show for Chanel, the legendary designer said he only had one career path in mind from his youth. "I never wanted a different life. I'm pretty happy with what I got. That doesn't exist. We have to manage what we want and I didn't managed too bad." The famed white-haired designer is also a photographer and artist. Famed perfume and fashion house Chanel warns that planned train tracks threaten production of its fa
(2 Dec 2016) CHANEL: TRAIN ACROSS FLOWER FIELDS THREATENS NO. 5 PERFUME Chanel warned Friday (02 DEC.) that a planned train line through the prized flower fields near the southern French perfume-making area of Grasse will threaten the production of its famous Chanel No. 5 scent. France's SNCF rail network plans to build a controversial new high-speed route - and viaduct - to ease traffic congestion between Le Muy and Cannes along the busy French Riviera, one of Europe's most visited areas. In a statement, SNCF said the region is home to three of France's biggest cities and simply "cannot afford to remain isolated in an increasingly interconnected European area." But the perfume maker is causing a stink. Chanel issued a statement Friday arguing that the train plans would comprise the production of their best-known scents. "The construction of a viaduct and the regular passage of high-speed trains above the flower fields would force Chanel to stop supporting its artisanal activities in the region," the statement read, referring to Grasse, one of the world's most famous perfume-making sites. Chanel No. 5 - created in 1921 and made world-famous by blond bombshell Marilyn Monroe - relies on extracts of "Grasse" jasmine and May rose that are cultivated in and around Grasse. The scent is said to have remained unchanged for decades. Chanel has been supporting a campaign to put Grasse's perfume-making area on UNESCO's protected heritage list, and it successfully lobbied in 2009 to end a project to create a refuse center near the flower gardens in Pegomas and the Siagne Valley. The luxury fashion house is lobbying French authorities to support an alternative route, using an old goods station in Cannes that's owned by the SNCF. California dreaming. Santa Monica, SoCal lifestyle and fashion.
There’s absolutely no doubt that all the different influences of California movies and TV shows have had a major influence on the American psyche as well as the perception of California overseas, especially in France. Baywatch, for example, has been the top-rated U.S. shows in the U.K., France, Germany, Ireland, New Zealand, and Australia for a decade or so. Ca fait rêver (Sounds like a dream!) is the response I get when I tell French I am from Los Angeles. Sun-kissed residents enjoying glorious sunshine all year round and having the option to wear whatever they want is the image of California. The free spirited boho style is frequently seen at the beach, as well as at concerts and festivals. Californians prefer easy pieces such as sundresses, flowy skirts, jeans and a casual tee. They can make even the most low-key look feel totally cool and laid-back. Here I couldn't resist taping the popular women’s apparel, accessories and home-goods retailer Anthropolgie on 3rd Street Promenade which offers an authentic California lifestyle concept around its apparel offerings 4:46-5:54. So SoCal!Top looks I love here...best bohemian look, 4:17;, best high rise jeans/tee looks, 6:39; best sexy beach look 7:45. Enjoy! Fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld dies at 85

It was a reason to exist. upsot:if we could go back that by a few millimeters. It was his meticulous attention to detail and precision earnt him the status of the "Kaiser of fashion"He was born in Hamburg in the 1930s but the exact date of his birth remains a mystery. In 1952 Karl Lagerfeld moved to Paris. He proved himself in the fashio n houses of Bal main, Jean Patou and Chloe, before joining Fendi in 1965 - where he remained artistic director. But it was at Chanel that Karl Lagerfeld truly came into his own...In 1983, he took over as the head of the fashion house and revivied the brand.Soon enough the two intertwined C's became affiliated with luxury. He designed the perfect cut for his tweed jackets and the classic little black dress...combining the masculine with the feminine with his monochrome palete. And with that Chanel was reborn. But that didnt leave Karl Lagerfeld resting on his laurels... In 2004, he became the first high profile fashion designer to collaborate on a collection with H&M.He puts his photographic skills to use and exhibited his work in 2011.SOT KL for Fr24:If I were only in fashion, I would risk isolating myself. which is the worst thing for creativity.By doing photography, even fashion photography and advertising,, which I love, I stay within the movement of fashion, people of fashion and my bubble is not the only thing that I see.Karl Lagerfeld launched his own brand, created perfumes, stood out as an interior designer and even opened his own bookstore in Paris.SOT KL:I wear dark glasses to see better. Observation is more precise, and you can't tell if I'm looking left or right. I want to know everything... if I wasn't like this I wouldn't own 300,000 books and I wouldn't be obsessed with the desire to know everything. I'm completely obsessed with this.It was an obsession that stayed with him till the end.Loved or loathed, Karl Lagerfeld has left an indelible mark on the history of fashion. French/Nat Fashion Weeks are travelling the world over, hitting major cities worldwide. First, London, then, Milan, and now Paris. On Monday, the second day of Paris fashion week, two French houses presented their collections. Jean Luc Amsler and Louis Vuitton lined the Paris catwalks with their 1999 spring and summer collections. Muted colours and minimalist design describe both Jean Luc Amsler's and Louis Vuitton's most recent collections. Amsler presented his Spring/Summer 1999 collection at the Louvre on Monday. He brought classic styling and a touch of geometric design to the catwalk. Triangular capes and skirts with below the knee hemlines graced Amsler's models for his new collection. This, Amsler's third collection, marks his first time presenting with more popular designers. Amsler confirmed his attempt to establish himself as a commercially viable designer for a very specific market. His most recent and feminine collection is aimed at young and trendy Parisian women. Classic cutting of necklines and hem lines make Amsler's 1999 collection very different from his collection last year. Last year's collection, focusing on the woman's body, was very sheer, showing the woman's body as much as possible. This presentation of classic styling shows the timeless collection of the young French designer. The other French show of the day took place in the greenhouse of the Gardens Andre Citroen, along the Seine. Despite declining sales from the Asian economic crisis, Louis Vuitton of the French luxury goods group Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy (LVMH) proved that his name will never die. Louis Vuitton, known worldwide for its handbags and luggage, is a French fashion house with an American touch. American designer, Marc Jacobs, has been designing for the Louis Vuitton house for a few seasons now. Jacobs is known for having added a modern trendy touch to the traditional luxury label. Naomi Campbell was among the famous faces gracing the Vuitton catwalk. Campbell strutted down the runway in a muted pink top with mini shorts. A few other young or new designers will show in Paris this week but the biggest, Dior, Chanel, Givenchy and Mugler are expected to attract the most attention. The Congo Dandies: living in poverty and spending a fortune to look like a million dollars
“La Sape” is a unique movement based in Congo that unites fashion-conscious men who are ready to splurge money they don’t really have on designer clothes. Dressing in stark contrast with their surroundings, these elegant ambiance-makers become true local celebrities… but this fame comes at a price. The Republic of the Congo in Central Africa can’t boast of high standards of living. Yet, there are men here who are prepared to spend a fortune on designer suits. They call themselves “sapeurs” – members of the “La Sape” movement. “La Sape” comes from French and stands for “The Society of Ambiance-Makers and Elegant People”. For its adherents, it’s all about style and elegance, the right combination of colours and textures, brand-names and the highest quality materials. They derive true joy from showing off their attire on the streets of Brazzaville – the country’s capital and the centre of the “La Sape” movement. Walking down dusty streets lined with clay houses, they turn heads and feel like kings. And there’s no price they won’t pay for this. In fact, behind the image of success these dandies project, there are often stories of significant financial troubles caused by their extravagant hobby. To afford the price tag of their designer clothes, “sapeurs” have to save, borrow and even steal money, sometimes bringing ruin to their families. But even the grim consequences of their indulgent dressing habits often don’t stop “sapeurs” from spending money they don’t really have. They are in constant competition with each other and investing in their image is more important to them than improving their living conditions. Dressing smartly becomes a true addiction that is very hard to conquer. However, some “sapeurs” do strive to find a balance between looking chic and being reasonable with their spending. They insist that the “La Sape” movement isn’t about designer suits but rather developing impeccable taste. They make an emphasis on learning to dress well but within one’s means. This way, style and elegance will demand fewer sacrifices from their devotees and will be accessible to more sophisticated men. France - Various Fashion Collection Highlights
T/I: 10:58:14 Designer Emanuel Ungaro opened his spring/summer collection in Paris on Tuesday (24/1) showing sexy little suits with corseted bodices, structured busts and plunging necklines. Rather than taking hemlines to new heights, Ungaro swelled a hip here, doubled a skirt there, or puffed out sleeves. As the show progressed, forms were increasingly exaggerated. Hubert de Givenchy presented his elegant, ageless couture suits as speculation heightened over his possible retirement after 42 years as one of fashion's most durable institutions. Givenchy's designs were as perfectly tailored as ever; a series of suits with spencers or blazers of navy gabardine with white linen collars and black and white checks and pinstripes.
