15 MOST Luxurious Fashion Brands

11:15
From Oscar de la Renta to Chanel, here are some of the most lavish and prestigious fashion brands. Subscribe to Hindered Thoughts http://goo.gl/d3U3RP 6. Chanel The high fashion wear company was introduced to the world back in 1909 by none other than Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel, otherwise known as “Coco Chanel.” This is where the brand gets its inspiration for the famously recognizable logo that is two interlocking C’s. The company specializes in creating haute couture for its wealthy clients but also for fashion models like Naomi Campbell, who once modeled for them, and actresses Marilyn Monroe, Keira Knightley, and Nicole Kidman. One of their most famous products is the perfume No. 5 de Chanel, along with the Chanel Suit. Today, Chanel is valued at being $6.8 billion dollars. An interesting fact to note is that Karl Lagerfeld, the creative director behind Fendi, happens to be the creative director for Chanel as well. 5. Prada Founded back in 1913 by Mario Prada, this fashion brand actually started out by manufacturing leather bags and trunks. It would then evolve into selling everything from clothing to perfume and even a brief stint of LG Prada cell phones. Though the brand may have broadened its inventory, it still spends the majority of its focus creating some of the world’s most exclusive handbags that only the rich and famous can possibly hope to afford. Mario Prada believed that women should not be involved in business so he excluded his own family members from getting involved. In a fantastic twist of irony, his son did not care to run the business so his daughter Luisa Prada took over as his successor and is now currently being run by her daughter Miuccia. 4. House of Versace The fashion empire that is the House of Versace all started with fashion designer Gianni Versace back in 1978. He created a brand that has been synonymous with elegance and simply oozes high fashion. His glamorous gowns have gone on to make a name for himself as a respected designer. Like the case of the famous black dress held with gold safety pins that actress Elizabeth Hurley wore back in 1994 to the premiere of Four Weddings and A Funeral. Sadly, Versace’s life was cut short in 1997 on the steps of his Miami mansion when he became the fifth and final victim of Andrew Cunanan. The tragic event will be the story behind American Crime Story’s season 2 titled: The Assassination of Gianni Versace. After his death, his sister Donatella became the new Artistic Director and has established a $5.5 billion company her brother would be proud of. 3. Gucci Started in 1921 by a Mr. Guccio Gucci, the company was originally dabbing in leather goods. It wasn’t until 19 years later when his son Aldo would take the company from being a one-stop shop into the fashion powerhouse that it’s now known for being. It’s Aldo that would usher in the era of the brand’s iconic “Bamboo Bag” and its “ready to wear segments.” In the 90’s, the company decided to bring American Fashion designer Tom Ford to revamp their women’s wear. He ended up helping launch the brand to where it is today. The fashion brand houses other well-known designers in its collections such as Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney, and Yves Saint Laurent. If you’re in the market to do some shopping at this $12.4 billion brand, expect to spend at least $2,000. 2. Louis Vuitton This may come as a shock but the famous fashion brand has been around longer than you might have thought. Formed 163 years ago in 1854, a young man by the name of Louis Vuitton started out as an apprentice for a box-maker. Vuitton ended up becoming a well-known crafter of luxury trunks and opened up his own shop in Paris. He then ended up becoming the personal box-maker of Napoleon III’s wife, Empress Eugenie de Montijo. Fast forward years later and the company is now worth $28.1 billion with a generated revenue of $10.1 billion. Today, Louis Vuitton doesn’t make just trunks but designer handbags and clothing that can be spotted on the most famous of A-listers. 1. Balenciaga The beginning of Balenciaga’s reign began back in 1919 when it was established by its founder of the same name, Cristóbal Balenciaga. As a young child, Balenciaga became an apprentice to a tailor in his hometown of Getaria, Spain and would eventually get his formal training in Madrid. He would go on to create the House of Balenciaga and skyrocketed to success thanks to his artistic genius. He was hailed as the undisputed “ King of Fashion” and was highly respected among his peers which included the likes of Coco Chanel, Christian Dior, and Pierre Balmain. Balenciaga even helped train the likes of high-fashion designers Oscar de la Renta and Hubert Givenchy to name a few.

I shot this segment last week at a Bloomingdales store in Los Angeles during a short visit which coincided with a fashion show introducing French labels. I am excited to share with you my favorite French brands, the labels that French women swear by and which aren't on our radar. At the top of the list is Zadig & Voltaire available at Bloomingdales. Zadig & Voltaire is a ready-to-wear fashion label established in 1997 by Thierry Gillier. The brand's name was inspired by the Voltaire book, Zadig ou la Destinee. The modern brand is known for its clean, edgy silhouettes. luxurious French rock'n'roll style...jeans, boots, leather jackets, furs, and hats. À Suivre

How to shop for sustainable fashion | Justine Leconte

06:19
This video answers your questions from 3 weeks ago: How to know which fashion brands are ethical and sustainable? Where to shop for sustainable clothes? My 5 tips: 1. Visit the brand’s ABOUT section: are they being transparent about their process and about where the fabrics come from? 2. Google the brand: were there sourcing scandals in which the brand was involved? 3. Look out for certification symbols in online shops and check the symbols on the Eco Label Index: http://goo.gl/9KTKSr Examples: GOTS and FAIR TRADE. 4. Research by country, brand or production criteria on Eco Fashion World: http://goo.gl/DWMntR Example: ABURY, my friend’s label based in Berlin with production in Marocco: http://goo.gl/h2XE8m 5. Read blogs and websites about sustainable fashion. Here are a few interesting ones: Guide to buying sustainable, fair trade and vegan clothing: http://goo.gl/9oBYS0 Affordable fashion online: http://goo.gl/zWxn7d Sourcing directory for fashion: http://goo.gl/A3t2Y5 Ethical Consumer – the website of the magazine: http://goo.gl/NYHe8N And if you see a brand doing something wrong, say it! It will force them to change their methods! Give this video your two thumbs up… and subscribe to this channel because: - it is free! - you don’t miss any future video! Top 10 Most Famous Fashion Designers Of All Time

02:12
10. Yves Saint Laurent: Yves Saint Laurent became popular in fashion circles due to his creativity in redesigning the clothes considered to be masculine into beautiful, feminine wardrobe for women. Perhaps, one of the most famous fashion designers in France, Yves was the first one to introduce power dressing for women in the form of “power suits” in the year 1966. He is also credited with designing the men’s smoking jacket. 9. Pierre Cardin: The Italian-born Frenchman is lauded for his 20th century pieces that looked as though they were from the 25th century. As Cardin rose to fame in the age of the space race, his creations took on an air of futurism. His so-called bubble dresses had all the fixings of science fiction, combining earthly elegance with out-of-this-world colors and avant garde design. 8. Tom Ford: Tom Ford, counted among the most famous designers today, whose portfolio includes serving as a creative director for both Yves Saint Laurent and Gucci, wanted to be actor when he was growing up. He was born in Texas and even took training to be an actor. But fate had other “designs” for him. Tom ford popularity as a designer reached peaks when in the year 2000, he was declared the winner of the Best International Designer Award. 7. Christian Dior: Born in January of 1905, this French designer was best known for his distinctive “New Look” silhouette. First shown in 1947; his suits and dresses revolutionized the way women dressed after the Second World War. Today, talented designer John Galliano carries on the legendary designer’s legacy in Paris, where he creates dramatic couture ball gowns, chic prêt-a-porter, and luxurious accessories for Dior. 6. Ralph Lauren: Ralph Lauren is worth $7.5 billion, and he got it all because of his fashion sense. In 1970, the first Polo logo was seen in Lauren’s line of women’s suits that was designed in the classic men’s style. Two years later, the famous short sleeve shirt with the Polo emblem appeared, and it soon became a classic. Lauren has been collecting rare and classic cars. The collection is so unique that it has been featured in the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. 5. Donatella Versace: She is the sister of Gianni Versace. After the murder of Gianni in 1997, Donatella took over and has taken the Versace name to new heights. Top celebrities like Jennifer Lopez and Madonna have endorsed the company’s collection of clothes, accessories, fragrances and home furnishings. 4. Calvin Klein: Born in 1942 in New York, Klein also capitalized on his own charisma and lean good looks. His biggest business rival, Ralph Lauren, was believed to envy Klein’s ability to charm so effortlessly. 3. Giorgio Armani: outstanding Italian fashion designer, particularly noted for his menswear for his clean, tailored lines. He formed his company, Armani, in 1975, and by 2001 was acclaimed as the most successful designer to come out of Italy, with an annual turnover of $1.6 billion and a personal fortune of $7 billion as of 2012. Armani is also the first ever designer to ban models who has a Body Mass Index under 18. 2. Donna Karan: Donna Karan came from a background that was related to fashion in certain ways. This fashion designer worked as a head of a design team for a few number of years and launched some designs that included the very well-known ‘Seven Easy Pieces’. She is the sole creator of the DKNY label (Donna Karen New York). Since then, this label has seen many new additions in the fashion segment. 1. Coco Chanel: Born Gabrielle“Coco” Bonheur Chanel, she is a excellent French fashion designer, founder of the well known Chanel brand, whose modernist thought, practical design, and pursuit of expensive simplicity made her an important and influential figure in 20th-century fashion. She was the only fashion designer to be named on Time 100: The Most Important People of the Century. IMAGE SOURCE: "GOOGLE SEARCH" SOURCE: http://www.themost10.com/famous-fashion-designers-all-time/

Which brands are “fast fashion”? How to tell (in 4 points) ǀ Justine Leconte

06:51
Fast fashion means that the brands produce in countries where labor is very cheap because the laws don't protect the garment workers. The clothes produced are of poor quality and execution, and they get sold at incredibly cheap prices in "rich countries". Since they are trendy in design, they will get out of fashion quite quickly. In fact, fast fashion brands even release new collections every 2 weeks, to make clothes previously purchased... obsolete. How to tell if a brand is "fast fashion": 1. Look at the brands producing in countries and factories where accidents happen. These brands clearly don't care about where and how their clothes get produced... 2. Research to which larger corporations these brands belong. It is very likely that a huge corporation like Inditex (Zara, Mango...) uses similar production methods for all its brands. 3. Understand the mindset of the brands / corporations that belong to the fast fashion industry: if they outsource their productions to countries where labor rights aren't respected, it is probably not to be charitable. Then claiming to use organic cotton (as an example of PR action) just can't make it up for ethically questionable practices. 4. Learn the break down of a price tag. If a Primark t-shirt costs 5€ in retail, how much of that actually goes to the garment worker? Thumbs up if you liked this video :-) If you subscribe to this channel and click on the bell, you will be notified when a new video goes live! Rome streetstyle, attractions, lifestyle moments, and French connections.

08:48
Here's one more vlog from Rome...flying back to Paris on Sunday. I wanted to share with you scenes from this beautiful city: 1:01-2:52...The Trevi fountain, nearly 300 years old, is visited by millions of tourists every year. Its poor structural condition was exposed in 2012 when bits of its elaborate cornice began falling off after an especially harsh winter. The historical fountain, the setting for the film "La Dolce Vita'' and the place where dreamers leave their coins, has been reopened in 2015 after a 17-months restoration. Many people head to the Trevi Fountain not only to take a look at it but also to toss in a coin, which is said to ensure a return to Rome. You are supposed to throw the coin with your right hand behind your left shoulder. The fountain became famous in 1960 with the release of the film La Dolce Vita. 2:59-7:06...Downtown Rome, this is where you'll find Rome’s best shopping streets. From the prestigious promenade of Via dei Condotti to the independent boutiques of Via Vittorio Veneto, the best streets in Rome to shop for designer labels, jewelery and unique souvenirs. 7:41-8:33...The Spanish steps were built in 1723-1725 by a design of the rather little known architect Francesco de Sanctis and were financed by French diplomat Étienne Gueffier’s bequeathed. It was built in order to link the the Trinità dei Monti church 7:40 that was under the patronage of the king of France, with the Spanish square below, 7:57. The long, triangular Spanish square is named after the Spanish Embassy to the Holy See. In the 17th century, the area around the embassy was even considered Spanish territory. The idea of connecting the church with the square below originates from the 17th century, when the French also planned a statue of King Louis XIV of France at the top of the staircase. This plan was never executed, due to the refusal of the Pope. Enjoy!!! À Suivre

Little known village produces world designer handbags

06:42
(10 Apr 2017) LEADIN: Hidden in a remote village in the Southern mountains of Spain, a centuries-old leather manufacturing hub is defying conventional wisdom about how to survive in a global, competitive world. Made in Ubrique is a secret success story - and the unseen label of thousands of designer handbags and leather goods from top brands around the globe. STORYLINE : Locals in Ubrique, a 17,000-strong village in the province of Cádiz, pride themselves on a leather industry dating back to the 18th century. Today a clutch of small manufacturers produce handbags, bearing famous logos, which are carried on the arms of fashionistas around the world. The secret of their success is a commitment to quality above all. Alejandro Oliva is co-owner and manager of handbag manufacturer El Potro. "Since I was a child I have been taught to care a lot about details, any detail, any seam, any well glued part, any well ironed thing, the leather well looked after, all these details that make the product one of high quality." The towns' workshops, around one hundred mostly family-run firms employing an average of 40 workers, have managed to survive the economic crisis that hit Spain in the past decade and cheaper manufacturing costs offered by Chinese competitors. In recent years the luxury brands have been returning to do business in Ubrique. José David Romero is the co-owner and marketing director of Piel Fort, another leather manufacturer in the town. He says that a good quality luxury handbag with a brand logo, is something consumers are prepared to splash out on. "I believe Ubrique has survived better than other similar places of other business for two reasons. First, the specialisation in premium and luxury products, where clients don't care much about price, what they want is a very well-manufactured product. And second, because handbags are considered the great luxury accessory for women's fashion. Fashion has democratised itself and many articles can be bought for very different prices, but the handbag is the great symbol of luxury." Juan Enrique Gutiérrez, is Head of Leather Companies' Association ByPiel and Director of the Professional Training School, which trains up local people to be the next generation of artisans. "Company leaders decided to create a professional training school. It didn't exist in the past. In the past, workers were trained at the workshops, inside the factories," he says. Julián Izquierdo, the director of the clothing sector at ICEX (Spain's public institute in charge of promoting foreign trade) says that at the turn of the century many luxury clients abandoned Ubrique's firms to seek more lucrative deals in China. But he says the trend started reversing around five years ago and the clients came back. "Around 2003 there's an enormous crisis. The crisis particularly affected Ubrique. Ubrique is a place which was specialised in high-end leather manufacturing for the best luxury brands worldwide. When these decided to go produce in China, it provoked a big crisis." The owners of the firms in Ubrique are reluctant to give the names of their clients – they sign non-disclosure agreements with them - but Izquierdo is clear that Ubrique is the "most important" and "prestigious" leather manufacturing cluster in Spain, and second only to Italy's Tosacana in the high-end niche worldwide. Izquierdo says Louis Vutton handbags are made in the town, but Louis Vutton's PR team declined to confirm this. Exports of leather manufactures from the province of Cádiz increased more than threefold from 2009 to 2015, according to ICEX. Urbique workshops offer cheaper labour costs, some of the workers earn Spain's minimum wage of 707 Euros per month, others can earn 1,506 euros per month. French clothing industry to set new sizes for children's clothing

Beynost, near Lyon, France, February 2008 1. Various Solene being measured 2. Various of computer generated image of Solene 3. SOUNDBITE: (French) Patrick Robinet, Campaign Director, French Institute of Textiles and Clothing: "For example a piece of furniture, a child's bedroom, a baby seat for the car, or clothes and shoes, in those areas the data we have is really old. There is little data on how human sizes are changing, so it is important for the industry and the research to get up to date information in order to set new standard rules." 4. Various Anais being measured 5. Various of computer generated image of Anais 6. Various of child having feet measured 7. Various of computer generated image on feet 8. SOUNDBITE: (French) Patrick Robinet, Campaign Director, French Institute of Textiles and Clothing "In France we have an obesity problem as well, one must know that we have one third of men who are overweight, like many other European countries and even the US. It's a major evolutionary characteristic and we are going to see if we find the same trend in children." 9. Canteen menu 10. School planner 11. SOUNDBITE: (French) Aurore Dufaud, Head Teacher, Saint Exupery School, Beyhost: "I think some children are badly nourished, their meals are not varied, they don't eat fruit and vegetables. They admit to having a bowl of soup or bread with spread for lunch, and what worries us most is they tell us they drink only soda or fruit juices with meals." 12. Children's clothes 13. SOUNDBITE: (French) Arnaud Bonnet, Pole Enfant: "We have realised and mothers told us that when they buy shoes or clothes from different brands, the sizes don't correspond. With this study by the IFTH and Pole Enfant we are trying to standardise all sizes across the board at a national level, so that we can have products that fit young French people aged 0 to 5 years old." 14. Various children clothes shop in Lyon 15. SOUNDBITE: ( French) Nathalie Gouttenoire, Shop Owner: "Children have definitely changed. they are getting bigger and bigger. You always have to buy a size up. Some producers have middle sizes like 9 months or 5 years, but it would be very useful to have the size "7 years", because between 6 and 8 there is a difference in height and weight." 16. Various baby shop in Lyon 17. SOUNDBITE: (French) Marie Christine Bauzac, Customer: "Four years old, when they are two I buy the size for four year olds." 18. SOUNDBITE: (French) Marie France Delauay, Customer: "My grandchildren are 11,7,6, 4 and one and a half years old. I always find the right things and at the right sizes". 19. Computer image of child. LEAD IN: Data on the measurements of French children aged 0 to 5 is being collected for a research project aimed at standardising clothing sizes. A measuring campaign by the French Institute of Textiles and Clothing (Institute Francais du Textile et de l'Habillement) started last month with the aim to size up 1600 children and babies. STORYLINE: Solene is 4 years old. She's been asked to look at the frog and stay still until the toy has emitted a sound. Meanwhile, a laser takes her measurements. The results are shown on screen via a 3D reproduction of the child. It's the first time children have been measured on such a large scale in France. In charge of the campaign is Patrick Robinet from the French textiles and clothing institute the IFTH (Institute Francais du textile et de l'Habillement). He explains that little data is currently available on childrens' sizes. The research is being carried out to help manufacturers make better products aimed at children. Feet too are measured in 3D. Behind The Brand | Berluti

03:41
New to MR PORTER. Artistic director Mr Alessandro Sartori talks us through the craftsmanship of the Parisian shoemaker Berluti. Mr Sartori, it’s safe to say, is a perfectionist, and his painstaking attention to detail is applied in equal measure to the preparation of his morning coffee and to the clothes he designs for the revered Paris-based label. There’s a connection between Mr Sartori’s approach in the kitchen, and the fact that in the three years since he was appointed to the role of artistic director the brand has forged an unrivalled reputation for combining the highest levels of craftsmanship with the finest materials and a strikingly contemporary attitude. In the words of Mr Sartori, the clothes are made “for a man who’s in love with style but wants to be modern”. Haute couture brands wage war on designer duds

01:12
Some of the world's most famous designer brands have decided to wage a war against fakes, claiming they're losing millions of pounds each year. These little beauties might look convincing and feel great on your arm, but they're destined for a less than luxury ending because every single one of them is counterfeit. Customs officer have seized hundreds of tons of the stuff, stopping them from reaching the hands of eager Europeans and Americans who want a slice of a millionaire lifestyle for a fraction of the price. Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent or Dior, Madam?? According to customs, most of these designer must-haves - which are now impounded here in this warehouse in Paris - are manufactured in China and shipped in on an enormous scale. And that's costing the authentic French manufacturers something in the region of six billions euros a year, that's around £4.8 billion. Holidaymakers going through French airports this summer are being warned that if they're caught bringing designer fakes home, the goods will be seized and destroyed I'm Marverine Cole.
