Epoxy casting with BBs! (to make bookends)

20:00
This video is about a casting process using BBs that have been covered in epoxy. The slimy BBs act like a sticky, heavy, honey-like fluid that can be poured as though it were liquid metal. The procedure used here can be adapted to cast all sorts of metal-ish objects, without the dangerous temperatures. Safety note: Epoxy becomes more odoriferous (smells worse) when heated. Be mindful of ventilation, and use a respirator with appropriate filters if necessary. Dust masks and particulate filters do not stop the inhalation of vapors: that means that those pink filters on your respirator are only for stopping DUST. Epoxy vapors can cause severe irritation to soft tissues and scarring of the respiratory tract, so check the MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) for the product you are using if you plan on repeating this project more than just once. Wire brushing uncured epoxy is also a bad idea without respiratory protection. Wood finish: one of my favorite finishes is labeled as 'Teak oil,' but this name is vague and a bit misleading. Many Teak oils are thin and closely resemble something like kerosene, because their purpose is to penetrate wood deeply for exterior, often nautical, applications in order to prevent rot. This is not the case with the product I show in this video. What I am using here is more closely related to a polyurethane that has been slightly thinned for rub-on applications. My best guess at this unique formulation would be something like, (1) part mineral spirits : (1) part boiled Linseed oil : (2) parts gloss polyurethane. This recipe is entirely speculative; I have not done enough testing to state this conclusively, but I hope to eventually replicate it. The product used here builds up additional coats like a poly, but spreads on with a rag or paper-towel. Depending on conditions, it can be applied up to 2 or 3 times in a day, so it's slightly faster than poly. One coat is sufficient for most little projects, and it can be dry to the touch within a few minutes in the warm sun. This stuff is no replacement for polyurethane on pieces that matter, but it has a good bit of flexibility and versatility. ***** Spheres: The crystallization that occurs when spheres pack by taking their optimal position is a sort of perfect organization, even though it leaves some air space. Cubes tessellate space, but unmodified spheres cannot. You can think of it this way: imagine two cube-shaped fish tanks. Fill one with dice, stacked neatly. Fill the second with marbles, also stacked as neatly as possible. Now fill both with water, and tank #1 will obviously hold less. A shape tessellates space when, in theory, no water will fit. Now you can see the picture in your head of all those little dice, and the wire-frame, cubic grid that defines their positioning. It's perfect, like a little map-of-the-cat you can remember seeing in a chemistry book, outlining the parameters of a salt crystal. I'm also reminded of an M.C. Escher lithograph that had an arrangement of vacant-looking fishes in an endless 3D structure, kinda like a skyscraper during construction. But seeing the corresponding framework for a group of marbles might prove a bit different. Lots of angles. If we were to look for that grid, at least in order to understand it, it might be easiest to start with the cubic arrangement first. I will discuss that further in my next video, which deals specifically with such crystallizations; but for now, I must state that my intention here was to deliberately avoid that sort of flawless order. That would be hard-edged, delineated, rigid and geometric organization (Stanford comma omitted on purpose)- but this project was organic and soft, as an intentionally contrasting juxtaposition. We are a dichotomy of art and science, aren't we! We both express and witness. The bubbly, indescript, and non-voxellated appearance of the BB hand was supposed to look like what Job did to the bad guys in 'The Lawnmower Man,' when they started to fly apart into a scattering mess of little matter-balls. Disordered and organic this time, but adherent to an overall theme. Fluid. Forgiving, like biology. Tune in next time for perfect structure, and the mathematical organization that underscores it. Seriously, thanks for reading. -pocket Music: "Desert City" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/

How to Paint a floor using a 2k or 2 pack epoxy paint

08:02
How to choose the right paint when you are planning to paint a floor. How to tell the difference between different products which are available on the market today. What the difference is between what are called 1K and 2k (2 pack) paints, how to prepare them and the surface you wish to paint. Things To Check Before You Paint Your Floor. You will need to check the following Before Application of Paint. 1. Concrete must be at least four weeks old and totally dry. 2. The surface profile of the concrete must be porous! A quick test pour a small amount of water on the surface, it should darken and disappear within 2-3 minutes. 3. The surface to be painted must be free of oils, greases, dust, moisture, anti-adhesion products, old paint, sealers, the surface must not be sandy or crumbling when you scrape it. 4. If the floor has been power floated or has a very hard non porous surface, you will need to sand or grind the floor (Grade) P80-P100 grit disc should be used if the floor has not got a sealer or paint on it, you can use an acid, to etch the surface, first test if there is a sealer on the concrete just spill a small amount of water on the floor if it beads or doesn't get absorbed into the surface then the floor has a coating on it that must be removed. 5. When acid etching the floor, the acid will only work on bare concrete it will react with the lime and you will see a effervescent reaction when it stops, hose and scrub the surface and leave to dry out completely there should be no white patches of lime left. 6. Any old paint or floor sealer should be removed as it might cause poor adhesion or a paint reaction. If in doubt you can purchase a small amount of paint and do a test area. 7. Temperatures below 10 degrees and relative humidity above 75% may cause slower drying, and clouding of the colour. 8. In Theory The Coverage is 5.5 to 7 meters square, per 1 LT of paint, which should allow for two coats, however the condition of the floor is very important, if the surface is very rough and porous it will need more paint. 9. Apply the paint with a short pile roller or a glossing roller. If you follow these instructions carefully and you are using a good quality 2 pack epoxy paint for internal floor then you should get years out of your painted floors. Mixing Two Pack Epoxy Floor Paint. First Coat mixing ratio 3.5 parts B6655 Paint 1 part E316 Hardener 20% Thinner Besasol/357 Apply first coat, then Leave for Minimum of Eight Hours, Temperatures below 20 degrees and RH above 75% will slow down The drying process so you may need to leave longer before applying second coat. On Second Coat. Mix Paint 3.5 parts (B6655) Add Hardener 1 part E316 Add Thinner 0 to 10% Leave the floor a few days to dry before heavy use. Important! ! (Mixed paint) activated paint will only last a short period of time always check the technical data sheet and don’t use paint after the recommended time (also known as pot life). If Using paint as Non Slip Please follow as above for mixing first coat. On the second coat, mix the same as above, then add 10 to 15% Grit per 1 litre, to the Mixed Paint and stir well. Alternative! (Broadcast the Grit) You can sprinkle the grit over the last coat while it is still wet

Epoxy resins: Safe handling for a long lasting use

03:11
Cured epoxies are inert and totally safe polymers. However, their starting building blocks – resins and hardeners - may show hazardous properties if not handled properly. Watch how to handle epoxy resins before, during and after their application. -SCRIPT- Cured epoxies are inert and totally safe polymers. However, their starting building blocks – resins and hardeners - may cause hazards if not handled properly. The first step to avoid any problems is to read the handling instructions and labels carefully. Second, apply a protective skin cream to exposed areas such as face, lower arms or legs. Third, get the right protective equipment. Gloves, check! Goggles, check! Single-use overalls or trousers, check Apron & leg protection, check You may also need a breathing mask… Now get ready to mix the components following the instructions provided in the package. And using the right measuring devices, for instance scales, flow meters or specific tippers. But be careful! Use different devices for the resin and the hardener – you don’t want them to start the curing process. Go slowly to prevent any splashes. We recommend you use especially designed equipment for this purpose and never forget to cover your legs and feet. When it comes to the application, suitable pail carriers should be used to pour the uncured liquid epoxy and spread it safely. For example, instead of a palette knife use a scraper to keep a safe distance and, if possible, add a splash protector to your rollers. Once you are done, remember to clean your tools properly by scrapping off residual material or by using cleaning detergents. And do not forget the handles. If you have any unreacted leftovers, you can store them in sealed containers in a cool and dry place. Epoxy containers must not be kept in unsuitable places, such as restrooms or temporary accommodations on the building site. What about the waste? Bear in mind that uncontrolled disposal of uncured resin and/or hardener components may harm our environment. Dispose of epoxy resins only after they have cured to solids as normal building waste. And remember to dispose of the protective clothing too – they are single use. Regular training is the best way to prevent accidents so make sure all workers using epoxy resins are properly trained so they also know what to do in case something happens. In addition to first aid measures such as cleaning the skin or eyes with water and providing fresh air, please inform your safety advisor and call a doctor as soon as possible. Need more information? You can always consult the safety data sheets for each specific product. With that and some thorough preventive measures, you can guarantee a safe job bringing tomorrow’s epoxy technology to life…today… and in a safe way!

DIY Waterfall Concrete Countertop w/ LED River Inlay || How to make GFRC Countertops

09:05
FOLLOW ME ON INSTAGRAM: https://goo.gl/F4UdEs This video explains how to make a one-piece DIY concrete waterfall countertop with an inlaid river of flowing LEDs that cascades over the waterfall edge (using neopixel LED strips). This is the first of two videos for a mancave makeover at a friend's house. Check out part 2: https://youtu.be/-RbUXryaz74 The countertop is made from a glass-fiber reinforced concrete (GFRC) concrete mix, which is pre-cast in a melamine form. I made the mix from scratch (recipe links are below). I mixed 280 lbs of the dry materials (including powdered pigment) all at once, so the color would be consistent. I used 40 lbs for the face coat, and the remaining in batches for the back coat with glass fibers. I used an off-the-shelf LED controller that has MUSIC REACTIVE modes, chasing modes, and solid color modes, with an RF remote, to control the WS2812 LED strips. (https://goo.gl/mC8B5j) The LEDs are covered by a smoke grey transparent acrylic sheet, which is inlaid so it sits flush with the concrete countertop. Safecoat Clear (fire proof ” epoxy”)by QC for finished wood( architectural wood , kitchens ) MPI #62

11:57
This is one of the greatest products out there. It is awesome to apply to any type of wood that you want to be protected from direct flame. Would be great to see this product on ALL kitchens installed in commercial and residential buildings. Creates a barrier to flame spread when needed. I honestly don’t know why this product is not code for all homes. 47% of fires start from the kitchen, with this applied to your kitchen cabinets, you can sleep knowing that you and your family are safe. Safecoat clear performed better then the product data sheet stated. When I first went over that data sheet , like any scientific report , it covered everything but could have been worded better. The draw backs that I encountered were because of my mistakes; pouring into small containers and not using a drill to mix. That being said , save yourself , family and belongings with a coat of Safecoat clear on your kitchen cabinets. Special thanks goes out to Issac Nelson for being the camera man.

Does Epoxy Primer Come In Spray Cans....Read Below For Correction

03:04
This is response to http://www.youtube.com/all_comments?v=XW3wp2bhqgE The question: Do they sell epoxy primer in spray cans? In the video, I state that I am not aware of a 2k epoxy product. However, thankful to our YouTube friends, they mentioned a line of paint that does have 2k products in spray cans. If I understand it correctly, you must use all of the primer within a certain amount of time or it will harden. Don't know much about this line of products, but I did a little research and found a resource for it. You can learn more at http://CollisionBlast.com/SprayCanEpoxy

Carbon Fiber Prepreg Ready Moulds (Tutorial) ***PART1***

10:51
How to make High temperature resistant moulds using Laminating resins and gelcoat - Ready for Prepreg oven curing. Hi everyone! In this short video I explain how to use laminating resins from Easy Composites called EG160 for the gelcoat and EL160 for the laminating epoxy to create a strong backing layer! To start your project you will need a mastermould or plug or part you want to mould! The big advantage of this system is that your mastermould/plug/part doesn't need to be high temperature resistant! You just do a wet lay up as you would normally do, they you are able to demould and proceed with the postcure of the mould without your mastermould. To start this project I use the Chemical release agent from Easy Composites to be sure the mould will come of the mastermould. Then you can proceed with mixing the EG160 gelcoat by adding 25% of hardener that is included in the kit. Make sure to mix it well for over more than 2 minutes to make sure it is properly mixed. try to avoid mixing in to much air for better results while brushing it on by brush on your mastermould. Once the first layer is cured to a B-stage you can continue the process with a second layer and let it go to a B-stage again. Now you are able to apply the backing layers that can be fiberglass, kevlar or also called aramid, carbonfiber or any other type of backing you desire, as long as it is compatible with the EL160 high temperature epoxy resin. Make sure to stay in the same resin system to avoid having problems later on. Let it Cure for 24 hours preferably wait 48 hours. Keep in mind that epoxy resins will only be fully cured at room temperature after around 7 days. After demoulding the part with wedges you can proceed to the postcuring stage. You Can find the exact curing cycles on Easy Composites website in the Technical data sheet. I used a postcure of around 16 hours, going from room temperature to 130 degrees celcius. so a ramp of around 0.1 degree C per minute. This is to make sure your mould won't warp or leave prints if it cures to rapidly. After the postcure you can proceed to the trimming and shaping of your moulds. If you still need to correct some errors or mistakes you are able to do that by sanding and polishing again to high gloss. Now apply some release agent and you are ready to use your mould with some out of autoclave prepregs!!! for more information for specific products check: https://www.easycomposites.co.uk Make sure to follow me on: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/MAT2COMPOSITES Instagram: matthieu.libeert twitter: @matthieutje65 web: https://www.mat2composites.com

How To Use PB Resin - Add an eye-catching, protective finish to HDU

06:16
This video describes the proper steps for mixing PB Resin two-part epoxy, with emphasis on achieving a strong bond and a complete cure. Application techniques and tips help the user master the process of applying resins as an efficient finishing technique for dimensional signs. PB Resin is a two-part modified clear epoxy resin that can be applied in its clear form, or mixed with lettering enamels to quickly and easily create a high gloss, smooth texture, color finish. PB Resin HDU Epoxy will create an ultra smooth texture on Precision Board HDU, any density, with no priming and no sanding. PB Resin can also be applied to polystyrene, wood, stone, steel, aluminum, and almost any other substrate. A smooth, opaque finish can usually be achieved on flat surfaces in one coat. No priming, no sanding! Extremely rough areas may need two coats. PB Resin Features: •Can be applied clear or tinted with oil based paints or lettering enamels •Creates an ultra smooth texture in one coat without priming or sanding •Highly durable Quick tips for using PB Resin HDU Epoxy: •Mix PB Resin part A and part B (50/50) by volume thoroughly for at least two minutes. •PB Resin can be tinted to any color using standard oil based paints or lettering enamels. Use approximately 1 tsp. of color to 8 oz of PB resin. Test color blockout effectiveness by pouring small amount on newsprint. Only use enough color to block printing. •Apply resin directly from mixing cup or from a squeeze bottle applicator and allow to allow to completely flow out. Flow can be assisted with a stir stick, etc. PB Resin’s surface tension will keep it from going over the edge if you are careful spreading it out. •Allow complete cure before applying a second coat or lettering enamels (approximately 24 hrs.). •Do not handle for at least 4 hr. •Pot life (working time for 100 grams) is about 60 minutes at 75°-80°F. More quantity and/or more temperature results in shorter pot life. •Complete cure time: approximately 24 hr. For more info on PB Resin and to view the Product Data Sheet, please visit: https://precisionboard.com/products/texture-coating/pb-resin-epoxy/ You can also call us at (800) 845-0745 or send an email to [email protected]

Clear Up Grout Haze with Aqua Mix Grout Haze Removers

02:53
When job conditions result in unsightly grout haze, turn to AquaMix for the most effective grout haze removers. Residue can occur with almost any grout type -- and any tile type. It’s a common concern with porous tile and textured or coated porcelain. Unsightly Haze can occasionally persist after incomplete grout clean up due to production schedules or weather conditions. Rather than relying on scrubbing alone, work smarter, not harder, with CUSTOM’s Aqua Mix family of problem solving solutions. These products tackle haze from today’s most common grout types, including cementitious grout and non-cementitious options like single component, urethane and epoxy grouts. Formulated to safely and efficiently remove grout residue from tile and natural stone surfaces, Aqua Mix ensures that the beauty of the tile shines through. To remove haze following the installation of cement-based grouts, such as PolyBlend and Prism brand products, choose Aqua Mix Cement Grout Haze Remover. This easy-to-use organic acid treatment is also effective on most hard water or rust stains, efflorescence, lime deposits and mortar residue. Use Cement Grout Haze Remover on cement grout, granite, slate, ceramic, porcelain, quarry tile and more. Dilute the product for light haze or apply it full strength to remove heavier residue. Simply scrub the tile and then clean the surface with fresh water. Select Aqua Mix Non-Cement Grout Haze Remover to eliminate haze from single component, premixed, urethane, and light epoxy grouts such as Fusion Pro, CEG and Simple brand products. Non-Cement Grout Haze Remover can be used safely on most types of tile and natural stone. It’s a non-acidic formula. Before starting, consult the technical data sheet for complete use details including the correct dwell time based on the grout type. Once the product penetrates the haze, scrub the tile, avoiding the grout joints. Wipe then rinse with clear water. To help prevent grout haze, apply Aqua Mix Grout Release before spreading grout, especially on porous or textured tiles. Count on the Aqua Mix line of problem solvers for your tile installation projects. For more information about preventing or removing grout haze, visit our website or give us a call.

Industry Epoxy Paint Overspray Removal "National Overspray Removal Services Sense 2011"

12:36
http://nationaloversprayremovalservice.com/ Epoxy paint is one of the most common paint products used in the construction industry. This product was being used many years before Protective Coatings was around. Its not as strong or adhesive as other paint products. That means the normal cleaning methods using the "clay-bar" will work just fine. We never use any solvents or chemicals to remove overspray from auto trim. All materials used have a “materials safety data sheet” in order to prove that they have been properly tested for safety. For our services call us at 877-715-5663 or 713-492-3924 Email us at [email protected] or [email protected] Connect withn us on twitter.com/jeffsuggs and like us on https://www.facebook.com/autopaintoversprayremoval?fref=ts

05:19
Manufacturing Process of Epoxy Resins with Formulation (Synthesis, Epoxy Resin Adhesives and Epoxy Resin Coatings) Epoxy is a term used to denote both the basic components and the cured end products of epoxy resins, as well as a colloquial name for the epoxide functional group. Epoxy resin are a class of thermoset materials used extensively in structural and specialty composite applications because they offer a unique combination of properties that are unattainable with other thermoset resins. sectors. Epoxy based solution coatings are used in maintenance and product finishes, marine finishes, masonry finishes, structure steel coatings and tank coatings, aircraft finishes, appliance primers, automotive primers, car and drum linings, furniture finishes and collapsible tube coatings. They are used for concrete floor paints, gym and floor varnishes, spar varnishes etc. Epoxy Resins are also used in decorative floor applications, as chemically resistant mortars and floor topping compound; in printing inks, in fabric treating applications in dental, surgical and prosthetic applications for breaking petroleum emulsions and for light weight chemically resistant foams.
