There are lots of ways to make an ebook; for me the simplest is to format your Word document correctly adn then use the free conversion tool I have on http://www.PublishXpress.com.
But if you have dropcaps, images or special fonts, those aren't going to convert well to ebook and you're going to need to open up your epub and make changes; for that I like using Sigil - an open source ebook formatting tool. When you convert from MS Word, it will keep the styles that refer to specific fonts, but it won't embed your fonts automatically: in this video I show you how to add fonts to your ebook file and get them to show up on the right elements, and also discuss some advanced, higher level ebook formatting tricks. I'll put this video and other guides on http://www.diybookformats.com
Hey there - I'm Derek Murphy. I'm a fine artist who became a book cover designer, then started writing young adult scifi and fantasy. I've spent almost 20 years living abroad, have a PhD in comparative literature (revolutionary politics in Paradise Lost), and have been featured in CNN for renting castles to use as writing retreats. Although I'm not working with clients anymore, I've built a ton of resources to help indie authors write, design and publish bestselling books.
On this channel, I talk about writing, publishing and creating personal freedom with unconventional business strategies and providing value. My videos are unpolished and a little raw, because we travel full-time and I focus on content, not production quality.
