Top 10 Men's Style Books
Get links to the books and more details about them here: https://gentl.mn/SRS-top-style-books SHOP THE VIDEO: 1. Ascot in Brown, Bottle Green, Orange and Madder Blue Silk Large Paisley - https://gentl.mn/2NJdmxi 2. Teal and Purple Shadow Stripe Ribbed Socks - https://gentl.mn/2CM3RMR 1. Dressing The Man It was written in 2002 and contains everything you want to know about classic men's style. It has beautiful photographs, illustration, very good text, it has hands-on graphics that allow you to pick the right patterns, it explains what to do and what not to do and overall, Alan Flusser probably sold more books on classic men's style than any other author in the world. 2. Gentleman My number two pick is Gentleman from Bernhard Roetzel. It is a German book and it was the first book I ever had that started it all for me. At the time it was written, it was the first and only book of its kind and probably because of that, it was really popular. 3. Bespoke Menswear Tailoring For Gentlemen t's likewise written by Bernhard Roetzel and it walks you through the entire process of choosing a fabric, cutting the pattern, having your fitting and getting your final garment. It also highlights a bunch of different tailors from across Europe so you get a better understanding of the different styles and what works for you. 4. Esquire Encyclopedia of 20th Century Men's Fashion That's quite a mouthful and even though it's so old, it's such a good book because it's very comprehensive and it's over 600 pages. Just look at the table of contents, it doesn't just talk about formal eveningwear but also formal day wear and there is a chapter on waistcoats, cummerbunds, and other clothing. It's a fantastic book that has lots of illustrations as well as a glossary and part of a dictionary that really help you to find things quickly if you don't know what certain terminology means. 5. Reclams Mode- und Kostümlexikon The focus of this encyclopedia is not just men but also women and fashion and fashion history, in general. I found it extremely valuable and if you speak German, it's a no-brainer, get this book! 6. The Elegant Man I put it on the list because it has a really comprehensive section about fabrics. You don't just learn about worsteds and flannels but also about things like the weaves and everything you need to know as a style enthusiast. 7. Alles Uber Herrenschuhe This monumental book title has everything about men's shoes, isn't perfect but it's definitely the most comprehensive attempt about anything there is to men's shoes. 8. History Of Men's Fashion Even though the author's French and he wrote it in French, there's also an English version of it. It has about 300 pages and talks about men's fashion history which is very interesting for someone like me. 9. Sharp Suits I met Eric once at his club in London and he has been into men's clothing for the most part of his life. He is very knowledgeable and he put together a book just about the suit, its history, the different silhouettes, the patterns, and since the suit is so central to classic elegance and style, I put it on my list. 10. Mercury Dictionary of Textile Terms It was published in the 1950s. So it's quite old but I love it because it's more than 500 pages of detailed information about anything related to cloth, fabric, textiles, yarns, they talk about the weaving patterns, the history, and anything else you wanted to know. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Want to stay updated? William Styron: Books, Author, Biography, Facts, Writing Style, Characters (1998)
William Clark Styron, Jr. (June 11, 1925 – November 1, 2006) was an American novelist and essayist who won major literary awards for his work.[1] Styron was best known for his novels, including: Lie Down in Darkness (1951), his acclaimed first work, published at age 26; The Confessions of Nat Turner (1967), narrated by Nat Turner, the leader of an 1831 Virginian slave revolt; Sophie's Choice (1979), a story "told through the eyes of a young aspiring writer from the South, about a Polish Catholic survivor of Auschwitz and her brilliant but troubled Jewish lover in postwar Brooklyn".[2] In 1985, he suffered his most serious bout with depression. Out of this grave and menacing experience, he was later able to write the memoir Darkness Visible (1990), the work Styron became best known for during the last two decades of his life. Styron was born in the Hilton Village historic district[3] of Newport News, Virginia. He grew up in the South and was steeped in its history. His birthplace was less than a hundred miles from the site of Nat Turner’s slave rebellion, later the source for Styron's most famous and controversial novel. Although Styron’s paternal grandparents had been slave owners, his Northern mother and liberal Southern father gave him a broad perspective on race relations. Styron’s childhood was a difficult one. His father, a shipyard engineer, suffered from clinical depression, which Styron himself would later experience. His mother died from breast cancer in 1939 when Styron was still a boy, following a decade-long battle. Styron attended public school in Warwick County, first at Hilton School and then at Morrison High School (now known as Warwick High School) for two years, until his father sent him to Christchurch School, an Episcopal college-preparatory school in the Tidewater region of Virginia. Styron once said, "But of all the schools I attended...only Christchurch ever commanded something more than mere respect—which is to say, my true and abiding affection."[4] Upon graduation, Styron enrolled in Davidson College[5] and joined Phi Delta Theta. By the age of eighteen he was reading the writers who would have a lasting influence on his vocation as a novelist and writer, especially Thomas Wolfe.[5] Styron transferred to Duke University in 1943 as a part of the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps V-12 program aimed at fast-tracking officer candidates by enrolling them simultaneously in basic training and bachelor's degree programs. There he published his first fiction, a short story heavily influenced by William Faulkner, in an anthology of student work[citation needed]. Styron published several short stories in the University literary magazine, The Archive, between 1944 and 1946.[6] Though Styron was made a lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps, the Japanese surrendered before his ship left San Francisco. After the war, he returned to full-time studies at Duke and completed his Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in English in 1947. After graduation, Styron took an editing position with McGraw-Hill in New York City. Styron later recalled the misery of this work in an autobiographical passage of Sophie’s Choice. After provoking his employers into firing him, he set about writing his first novel in earnest. Three years later, he published the novel, Lie Down in Darkness (1951), the story of a dysfunctional Virginia family. The novel received overwhelming critical acclaim. For this novel, Styron received the prestigious Rome Prize, awarded by the American Academy in Rome and the American Academy of Arts and Letters. His recall into the military due to the Korean War prevented him from immediately accepting the Rome Prize. Styron joined the Marine Corps, but was discharged in 1952 for eye problems. However, he was to transform his experience at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina into his short novel, The Long March, published serially the following year. This was adapted for the Playhouse 90 episode The Long March in 1958. Styron spent an extended period in Europe. In Paris, he became friends with writers Romain Gary, George Plimpton, Peter Matthiessen, James Baldwin, James Jones and Irwin Shaw, among others. In 1953, the group founded the magazine Paris Review, which became a celebrated literary journal.[5] The year 1953 was eventful for Styron in another way. Finally able to take advantage of his Rome Prize, he traveled to Italy. At the American Academy, he renewed an acquaintance with a young Baltimore poet, Rose Burgunder, to whom he had been introduced the previous fall at Johns Hopkins University. They were married in Rome in the spring of 1953. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Styron

One of the most important reasons if you are preparing for competitive exams you must study from best grammar books. Here in this video I will tell you about the best grammar books for competitive exams. There are a lot of grammar books but there is a very big difference between English grammar for schools and english grammar for competitive exams. When you are preparing for competitive exams you are not required to explain the concent for that you only need to understand what is correct and what is not, and therefore if you are preparing for competitive exams you must study english grammar for competitive exams. If you study from the books suggested you will understand english grammar rules for competitive exams like bank po, bank clerk, for SSC,for SSC CGL,for IELTS, for toefl, for cat, for gmat, for clat or any other exam you are targeting. Here in this video I will tell you about 10 books which you should study if you want to BECOME SUCCESSFUL IN YOUR LIFE. Just read these books and follow the path which most of the successful people have followed in their lives and have become successful. One of my most favorite books which I read in 2017 was The Unwritten Laws of Business. If you want to exact the maximum benefit, read all of these books religiously and also make notes, and try your hardest to practice the lessons which you are going to learn in these books. These books are must read books as well as the best books which every student must read in 2018. The FIRST one of these 10 must read books is Thirukkural by M. Rajaram it is a book of aphorism written by Thiruvalluvar, and it is considered as one of the best books on ethics and morality. Thirukkural contains 1330 couplets, which are applicable to people in all levels of society. M. rajaram has translated this in a lucid and simple style. there are several translations of Thirukkural, but M. Rajaram's work is one of the most favorite of APJ Kalaam Sahab. The SECOND one of these 10 must read books is This Is How by Augusten Burroughs the best part of this book is that you will stop wastig time in watching motivational videos and reading motivational books. you will learn about how to deal with the life's most difficult problems. written in an almost sarcastic tone this books teaches you to be brutally honest with yourself. this books does not conforts you but it kicks you to become tough The THIRD one of these 10 must read books is Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff by Richard Carlson you will learn how to avoid the unimportant things this books does not give you philosophical advice, it suggests 100 strategies to deal with the things which are not THAT important The FOURTH one of these 10 must read books is The Unwritten Laws of Business by W.J. King This is truely a timeless book which is universally applicable. by reading this book you will learn as much as an experienced person learn about his trade after 5 years. this is only book, which I suggest you to study 8 times. The FIFTH one of these 10 must read books is The First 20 Hours by Josh Kaufman In this book you will learn how to acquire any skill in 20 hours'time this book teaches you how to learn. you will learn about the correct way of learning. if you want tolearn a new skill; deconstruct it, and identify the crucial aspects of that skill and then spend 20 hours. this books also gives a brilliant approach to master things faster. The SIXTH one of these 10 must read books is The Personal MBA by Josh Kaufman this book teaches you everything about MBA which you will not learn even after doing MBA from 8-10 different branches. this book also save you a lot of time and money which you have to spend if you study in a big Business School. Every topic is explained through simple 15 minute articles on everything that MBA teaches. The SEVENTH one of these 10 must read books is Emotional Intelligence by Daniel Goleman You might think that EQ is more important, but in order to succeed EQ and IQ are equally important. by reading this book you will get to learn how to use IQ to increase your EQ, and then used that EQ to increase your IQ. and then using both increase each other. The EIGHTH one of these 10 must read books is The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success by Deepak Chopra the concept of meditation is very well explained. This book talks about attaining spirituality as wll as success. this book does not tells you to rely on hard work and succeed, this book talks about finding your natural talent and then work hard on it. UK Thrift Haul (CLOTHES & BOOKS) - in english
My first Video in English! I've been on a holiday in beautiful Kent and took the opportunity to stroll through all the charity and thrift shops there. I'm trying to live a more environmental friendly and sustainable lifestyle and therefore shopping for second hand goods is a must for me. While fair fashion is a great choice, buying second hand is the best. All the things that have already been made are out there and can still be used. With that no more resources are being used and the demand for new items will sink, which won't support the bad treatment of the people in the manufacturing countries. Sometimes you have to buy something new. And that's totally fine. Just try to choose a brand that doesn't harm the planet and provides good working condition for the people producing your item. You can also find the books I bought second hand: The Slap - Christos Tsiolkas: https://www.medimops.de/christos-tsiolkas-the-slap-one-day-at-a-suburban-barbeque-a-man-slaps-a-child-who-is-not-his-own-taschenbuch-M01848877994.html?variant=UsedVeryGood Cloud Atlas - David Mitchell: https://www.medimops.de/david-mitchell-cloud-atlas-sceptre-taschenbuch-M00340822783.html?variant=UsedGood They came to Baghdad - Agatha Christie: https://www.medimops.de/agatha-christie-they-came-to-baghdad-b2-elt-reader-taschenbuch-M00007451660.html?variant=UsedVeryGood Mansfield Park - Jane Austen: https://www.medimops.de/jane-austen-mansfield-park-wordsworth-collection-taschenbuch-M01853260320.html?variant=UsedVeryGood The Quality of Silence - Rosamund Lipton: https://www.medimops.de/rosamund-lupton-the-quality-of-silence-taschenbuch-M00349408157.html?variant=UsedVeryGood The Sea House - Esther Freud: https://www.medimops.de/esther-freud-the-sea-house-taschenbuch-M00141011076.html?variant=UsedVeryGood My Instagram: https://instagram.com/lenaswunderwelt Music: http://www.epidemicsound.com

George Orwell: 1984, Quotes, Biography, Books, Early Life, Facts, History, Writing Style (2001)
Eric Arthur Blair (25 June 1903 – 21 January 1950), who used the pen name George Orwell, was an English novelist, essayist, journalist and critic. About the book: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0393322637/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=0393322637&linkCode=as2&tag=tra0c7-20&linkId=64c93e62e5b668800667152617ac237a His work is marked by lucid prose, awareness of social injustice, opposition to totalitarianism, and commitment to democratic socialism. Orwell wrote literary criticism, poetry, fiction, and polemical journalism. He is best known for the dystopian novel Nineteen Eighty-Four (1949) and the allegorical novella Animal Farm (1945). His non-fiction works, including The Road to Wigan Pier (1937), documenting his experience of working class life in the north of England, and Homage to Catalonia (1938), an account of his experiences in the Spanish Civil War, are widely acclaimed, as are his essays on politics, literature, language, and culture. In 2008, The Times ranked him second on a list of "The 50 greatest British writers since 1945".[4] Orwell's work continues to influence popular and political culture, and the term Orwellian—descriptive of totalitarian or authoritarian social practices—has entered the language together with several of his neologisms, including cold war, Big Brother, Thought Police, Room 101, doublethink, and thoughtcrime. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Orwell Nineteen Eighty-Four, sometimes published as 1984, is a dystopian novel by English author George Orwell published in 1949.[1][2] The novel is set in Airstrip One (formerly known as Great Britain), a province of the superstate Oceania in a world of perpetual war, omnipresent government surveillance and public manipulation, dictated by a political system euphemistically named English Socialism (or Ingsoc in the government's invented language, Newspeak) under the control of a privileged Inner Party elite, that persecutes individualism and independent thinking as "thoughtcrimes".[3] The tyranny is epitomised by Big Brother, the quasi-divine Party leader who enjoys an intense cult of personality but who may not even exist. The Party "seeks power entirely for its own sake. We are not interested in the good of others; we are interested solely in power."[4] The protagonist of the novel, Winston Smith, is a member of the Outer Party, who works for the Ministry of Truth (or Minitrue), which is responsible for propaganda and historical revisionism. His job is to rewrite past newspaper articles, so that the historical record always supports the party line.[5] Smith is a diligent and skillful worker but he secretly hates the Party and dreams of rebellion against Big Brother. As literary political fiction and dystopian science-fiction, Nineteen Eighty-Four is a classic novel in content, plot and style. Many of its terms and concepts, such as Big Brother, doublethink, thoughtcrime, Newspeak, Room 101, telescreen, 2 + 2 = 5 and memory hole, have entered everyday use since its publication in 1949. Nineteen Eighty-Four popularised the adjective Orwellian, which describes official deception, secret surveillance and manipulation of recorded history by a totalitarian or authoritarian state.[5] In 2005, the novel was chosen by TIME magazine as one of the 100 best English-language novels from 1923 to 2005.[6] It was awarded a place on both lists of Modern Library 100 Best Novels, reaching number 13 on the editor's list, and 6 on the readers' list.[7] In 2003, the novel was listed at number 8 on the BBC's survey The Big Read.[8] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nineteen_Eighty-Four

This first edition credited the work's fictional protagonist Robinson Crusoe as its author, leading many readers to believe he was a real person and the book a travelogue of true incidents. It was published under the considerably longer original title The Life and Strange Surprizing Adventures of Robinson Crusoe, Of York, Mariner: Who lived Eight and Twenty Years, all alone in an un-inhabited Island on the Coast of America, near the Mouth of the Great River of Oroonoque; Having been cast on Shore by Shipwreck, wherein all the Men perished but himself. With An Account how he was at last as strangely deliver'd by Pyrates. Epistolary, confessional, and didactic in form, the book is a fictional autobiography of the title character (whose birth name is Robinson Kreutznaer)—a castaway who spends years on a remote tropical island near Trinidad, encountering cannibals, captives, and mutineers before being rescued. The story is widely perceived to have been influenced by the life of Alexander Selkirk, a Scottish castaway who lived for four years on the Pacific island called "Más a Tierra" (in 1966 its name was changed to Robinson Crusoe Island), Chile. However, other possible sources have been put forward for the text. Despite its simple narrative style, Robinson Crusoe was well received in the literary world and is often credited as marking the beginning of realistic fiction as a literary genre. Before the end of 1719 the book had already run through four editions, and it has gone on to become one of the most widely published books in history, spawning numerous sequels and adaptations for stage, film, and television. Books I'm using to learn French
**Skip to 1:51 to hear about the books.** More information and links in descriptions! In the 4th episode of Fortnightly French I show two books I recently got to help support my learning French independently at home. I am still keeping up my Babbel vocabulary review and am making use of Memrise. -- LE PETIT PRINCE The first book is Le Petit Prince / The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. The version I have is a bilingual English and French version. I really like the layout and will give feedback after I have finished as to how useful it was. This book also comes with an English and French version of the audiobook. Le Petit Prince / The Little Prince - French/English bilingual book: Amazon UK: http://amzn.to/2qqpmcC Amazon US: http://amzn.to/2qx81OC -- LE PAPYRUS DE CÉSAR The second is the comic Asterix : Le Papyrus de César / Asterix and the Missing Scroll, which is the latest Asterix comic, released in 2015. This was a present from my French boyfriend. In order to fully understand the jokes you should probably read this with a native French speaker. Consider this book learning about French culture ;) ! English Books that Will Help You Reach a High Level of English Fast!
English books that will help you reach a high levle of English - https://www.tofluency.com/5-step-plan/ ← Click here to download your free guide. One of the most common question I get asked is... "What books will help me reach a high level of English?" In this new video, I talk about the types of books you should be reading and why. Watch in HD! ----------- TRANSCRIPT Hello, this is Jack from tofluency.com and in this video we're going to talk about books, and more specifically, what books are going to help you reach a high level of English, so keep watching! As an English learner, there are so many books that you can buy and read to help you with your English. Now firstly, there are the type of books that are specifically made for English learners. This is, for example, grammar books, course books, text books and books have been adapted for your specific level. And then, obviously, they're also books that haven't been made, specifically, for English learners; books on a whole range of topics: fiction and also non-fiction. Now, I receive a lot of questions from English learners, and one of the main questions I receive: is: What books should I buy to help me on my journey to English fluency? Now, I can not recommend a specific book in this general sense because a book that's going to be good for you and that's going to help you on your journey might not be suitable for someone else. This is because we all have different interests and also we have different levels of English. The key is finding a book that you can understand; a book that isn't too difficult for you and your level right now and also finding a book that is going to really interest you; a book that you just can't put down. Now, as you progress with your English and if you are an immediate learner now, I recommend that you find more native materials.Find books at have not been written specifically for English learners; find books that are native - books that have just been written in different genres. And remember: Choose a book that is going to interest; find books on topics that you find interesting. This might be novels, non-fiction like history, sports or politics or maybe magazines and blogs. Additionally, if you can find the audio for the book, as well, then I really recommend that you do this. If you find books that come along with the audio it means you can listen and read at the same time, you can read a book and then listen later. Or maybe you just listen to the book. But having the audio is really gonna help you improve your English. One last tip: the mentality of choosing books is really important, and what I recommend, like I've said throughout this video, is that you find books that you want to read. Don't read books that you feel you have to read instead, read the books that you think, "Yes, I really want to read this book and I know I'm going to enjoy it." And if you don't enjoy the book don't feel like you have to read it - put it down and choose a different book instead. Here is a question for you: I want you to leave your answer below this video: What is your favorite book that you have read in English? What is your favorite book that you have read in English? Leave your answers below.. thanks for watching, and I'll see you next time! ----- Please share this video if you found it useful. Thanks. 1984 by George Orwell | Full Audiobook
Nineteen Eighty-Four, often published as 1984, is a dystopian novel by English author George Orwell. Concepts starting at 'The Book' 6:17:32 War is Peace 6:53:30 Ignorance is Strength 7:09:03 Party Structure 7:19:02 Doublethink 8:35:00 Nature of Reality 8:47:00 Martyrdoms 9:08:45 Power 10:02:45 Chestnut Tree Café 10:27:12 Newspeak Nineteen Eighty-Four, often published as 1984, is a dystopian novel by English author George Orwell published in 1949. The novel is set in Airstrip One (formerly known as Great Britain), a province of the superstate Oceania in a world of perpetual war, omnipresent government surveillance and public manipulation, dictated by a political system euphemistically named English Socialism (or Ingsoc in the government's invented language, Newspeak) under the control of a privileged elite of the Inner Party, that persecutes individualism and independent thinking as "thoughtcrime." The tyranny is epitomised by Big Brother, the Party leader who enjoys an intense cult of personality but who may not even exist. The Party "seeks power entirely for its own sake. It is not interested in the good of others; it is interested solely in power." The protagonist of the novel, Winston Smith, is a member of the Outer Party, who works for the Ministry of Truth (or Minitrue in Newspeak), which is responsible for propaganda and historical revisionism. His job is to rewrite past newspaper articles, so that the historical record always supports the party line. The instructions that the workers receive specify the corrections as fixing misquotations and never as what they really are: forgeries and falsifications. A large part of the ministry also actively destroys all documents that have been edited and do not contain the revisions; in this way, no proof exists that the government is lying. Smith is a diligent and skillful worker but secretly hates the Party and dreams of rebellion against Big Brother. Orwell based the character of the heroine of the novel, Julia, on his second wife, Sonia Orwell. As literary political fiction and dystopian science-fiction, Nineteen Eighty-Four is a classic novel in content, plot and style. Many of its terms and concepts, such as Big Brother, doublethink, thoughtcrime, Newspeak, Room 101, telescreen, 2 + 2 = 5, and memory hole, have entered into common use since its publication in 1949. Nineteen Eighty-Four popularised the adjective Orwellian, which describes official deception, secret surveillance and manipulation of recorded history by a totalitarian or authoritarian state. In 2005, the novel was chosen by TIME magazine as one of the 100 best English-language novels from 1923 to 2005. It was awarded a place on both lists of Modern Library 100 Best Novels, reaching number 13 on the editor's list, and 6 on the readers' list.

How to use Mind Maps to understand and remember what you read!
Do you have a hard time remembering what you read? Do you need to read things many times before you understand? Reading books can be discouraging because of the large amount of information on each page. To help you make sense of all that information, I will show you how to create a mind map. A mind map is a graphic that shows categories containing quick reference points from your book. By taking short notes and organizing them in a specific way, you will have all the information you need to quickly and easily remember the important points of a book. Just the process of thinking about and creating this mind map will help your brain to understand and remember the material. Try it! It really works and it is free. Mind maps are especially useful when it's time to write an assignment or study for an exam! Watch the video to learn how to create your own mind map. Watch my first mind map lesson: https://www.engvid.com/mind-maps-how-to-learn-vocabulary/ Take the quiz: http://www.engvid.com/how-to-use-mind-maps-to-understand-and-remember-what-you-read/ TRANSCRIPT How to submit. We want to hear from all artists and makers who have a passion for creating. That's cool. Hi. James from engVid. You notice? I was reading. It's not a special skill. Most of us learn it, but the problem is when you go to another language it's difficult sometimes to understand what's on the paper and be able to use that. So today's lesson is about mind maps. Mind maps? Yeah. Wait a second, mind maps and reading. I did a general lesson earlier on. Somewhere in the link you can look down and you can find it, go back, you can watch it. But in that lesson I didn't give any specific examples on mind maps. I'm doing this particular lesson to address that. So, if you're here going: "Yeah, I want to learn about mind maps and reading", this is your lesson. Hold on two seconds. We're going to discuss what the benefits are, what the benefits of reading are, then I'm going to give you a very detailed mind map explaining what parts you should do for what, and that'll help you with reading. Are you ready? Let's go to the board. All right, E, what's up? "It's all Greek to me." Omega, it's not the best symbol, you probably can't see it, but Greek. In English we say when something's Greek to me, it means we don't understand it. A lot of times you'll get a big contract when, you know, you have your cellphone and there's a bill and it's: "Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah", and you're like: "I don't understand it. It's all Greek." I know you understand all of the words, it's just they're put together in such a way it's difficult, and that doesn't matter if you're reading your own language or another language. But there are a lot of benefits when you're learning another language that reading gives you. And a lot of people want to talk and listen, but reading has some power. And let's address that now. Okay? So mind maps are reading comprehension. Don't worry if you haven't seen the mind map, it's coming up in a second or two. But the first thing I want to talk to you about is reading helps you understand the way that the language is put together. Most of you will come and... You come to engVid to learn vocabulary and grammar, but that doesn't help you with syntax, that doesn't help you with putting the words together in a logical way. Reading does that because... Well, let's face facts, when you're reading someone is actually speaking to you but they're not in front of you. So the problem is if they're not very clear and they don't use the language well, you won't really understand them. Right? So reading teaches you how to... The language is put together, where the verbs go, and when's a better place to use the verb or a noun, and how you can show expressions. Okay? Reading also teaches you how to speak by showing you the way that the language is used by the native speakers. Huh? Well, if it's a fiction book they actually say: "-'Johnny, are you coming?' -'Yes.' Dah, dah, dah, dah", and they show you how we use the language. So not only do you understand how to put the language together by looking at it and going: "Ah, comma here, period here", but then they say: "Hey, this is how we speak." So if you follow this you can actually use that kind of method or sys-... Not system. You can follow those words and actually speak like we do. All right?

THE BOOKS EXPERTS - How to Style Your Papers, Essays, and Other Writings!
THE BOOKS EXPERTS - How to Style Your Papers, Essays, and Other Writings! Books may also refer to works of literature, or a main division of such a work. In library and information science, a book is called a monograph, to distinguish it from serial periodicals such as magazines, journals, or newspapers. The body of all written works including books is literature. In novels and sometimes other types of books (for example, biographies), a book may be divided into several large sections, also called books (Book 1, Book 2, Book 3, and so on). The MLA Style Manual and Guide to Scholarly Publishing (2008) is the third edition of The MLA Style Manual, first published by the Modern Language Association of America in 1985. It is an academic style guide widely used in the United States, Canada, and other countries, providing guidelines for writing and documentation of research in the humanities, especially in English studies; the study of other modern languages and literatures, including comparative literature; literary criticism; media studies; cultural studies; and related disciplines (but not disciplines like history, philosophy, and theology, which follow The Chicago Manual of Style). According to the MLA book catalog description, since first being published in 1985, the MLA Style Manual has been "the standard guide for graduate students, scholars, and professional writers". MLA style "has been widely adopted by schools, academic departments, and instructors for over half a century"; the MLA's "guidelines are also used by over 1,100 scholarly and literary journals, newsletters, and magazines and by many university and commercial presses", and they are "followed throughout North America and in Brazil, China, India, Japan, Taiwan, and other countries around the world". Merchants’ Marks in Medieval English Books - Thomas Kittel
Merchants’ marks were used initially as a tool of commerce, on consignments of goods, in the Middle Ages. In the sixteenth century, however, they became more like a coat of arms for people who didn’t have one – a form of professional identity. Medieval manuscripts also feature the marks used in this way, and Thomas Kittel (DPhil student, English Literature, at St Edmund Hall, University of Oxford) argues that this is interesting because it shows us how medieval people understood their identity and how books (such as 'The Canterbury Tales') functioned in social exchanges. This is one in a series of short 'Teddy Talks' presented at St Edmund Hall's Research Expo in 2017. Find out more at www.seh.ox.ac.uk/expo.
