Karl Lagerfeld - the name stands for much more than just fashion. What makes the fashion icon so successful? Who’s the man behind the sunglasses?
Designer, artist, fashion icon, also known as "Kaiser Karl." No living fashion designer, let alone a German one, is as celebrated as Karl Lagerfeld. On September 10, the man with the trademark ponytail and sunglasses will celebrate his 85th birthday - it’s believed. From dawn to late morning, Karl Lagerfeld designs for Chanel, Fendi and his own signature brand - a combined workload of up to 15 collections a year. A workhorse who never takes breaks or even a vacation, he is also a photographer and filmmaker. His passion for fashion was awakened by a Dior show in Hamburg in 1950. Four years later, at the age of 17, Karl Lagerfeld was hired as an assistant to Pierre Balmain. Karl Lagerfeld recounts his beginnings in the industry, as well as his upper class background and childhood in Schleswig-Holstein. Karl Lagerfeld was greatly influenced by his mother, whom he describes as his personal style icon. Karl Lagerfeld's caustic comments are notorious and dreaded by those at the receiving end. As an artist, Karl Lagerfeld works in several media, from pictures and photographs to book illustrations and videos. The documentary follows Karl Lagerfeld to exhibition openings, during the hectic preparations for his fashion shows, and at photo shoots in Paris as it seeks to uncover the man behind the mask.

Watch Vivienne Westwood British fashion designer Fashion Memior Only on Fashion Funky
Fashion is a popular style or practice, especially in clothing, footwear, accessories, makeup, body or furniture. Fashion is a distinctive and often habitual trend in the style in which a person dresses. It is the prevailing styles in behaviour and the newest creations of textile designers. Because the more technical term costume is regularly linked to the term "fashion", the use of the former has been relegated to special senses like fancy dress or masquerade wear, while "fashion" generally means clothing, including the study of it. Although aspects of fashion can be feminine or masculine, some trends are androgynous.
We brought to you many kinds of fashion collection here. Kindly subscribe us and stay updated with Fashion Funky .

The Shed at Dulwich was the number one rated restaurant in London, with foodies, celebrities and bloggers trying to get a table. The main obstacle for them, however, was that it didn't exist. Over the course of 8 months VICE's Oobah Butler used an assault of fake reviews to get his 'restaurant' to the hallowed top spot on TripAdvisor.
With his phone perpetually ringing, PR agencies begging to represent it and TV crews pitching shows, Oobah decided he had no choice but to open its doors for one night only. Here is Oobah's journey into a false reality that captured the world's attention.

Enter the weird and wonderful worlds of four CSM grads turned fashion’s brightest young things. Step inside Istanbul-born, London-based rebel Dilara Findikoglu’s cabinet of curiosities, rub a wishing stone with Rottingdean Bazaar’s James Theseus Buck and Luke Brooks, and peer into designer, illustrator and make-up maestro Matty Bovan’s kaleidoscopic diary of everyday outfits. Shaking up the capital’s fashion scene from afar, each designer is a non-compromising, multi-tasking collaborator of the creative resistance.
During this time of socio-political uncertainty, their journeys remind us of the importance of being brave, breaking rules and delighting in difference - defying expectations and fighting for what you believe in.

Oakland high school student Zachary Fernandez made it to the finals on the first season of Project Runway Junior, then headed straight back to Oakland School of the Arts to continue his education as a designer. His newest collection, Kathmandu, was inspired by recovery efforts in Nepal after the devastating 2015 earthquake. Art School followed Fernandez's process as he sketched, sourced fabric, and designed his new project, revealed at a culminating fashion show in spring 2016.
Hi, my name is Zachary Fernandez and I'm currently a fashion student. So I am starting my Kathmandu 2016 collection. My collection's gonna be debuting at my school fashion show, and so I have little under seven weeks to get this all put together. So our school assignment was to pick a city that we wanted to be inspired by for this collection. I ended with Kathmandu, Nepal, all of the trouble that they went through last year was really inspiring and I was able to take those ideas of imbalance and the destruction of culture and apply that to this new collection. These are the pieces that I ended up designing. They're ever-changing and they kind of just are always in flux. My sketching process involves a lot of images, a lot of mixed medias, I like to do collages, watercolors, acrylic paste, it's a real reflection of what my mind looks like. Here you have the final sketches that I've done. The sketching process for me is really a major step between just ideas and kind of this fantasy world that I've created in my mind to really functional wearable pieces. Fabric sourcing is one of my favorite things to do. It's really like a group activity, like meet a couple of friends, we'll just go, we'll explore the city, we'll get inspiration. So I'm looking for like a very pale blue that's almost like very silverish, and then I'm gonna be looking for a very deep, rust orange color. Okay, so I need to find this, but more grayish blue. The fabric store is one of those places that you go in with one idea and one concept and one thought, and you come out with like 500 more. This is it.
- This is it!
- This is it.
- [Girl] Dude!
- Hey! Yes! So I spend the majority of my time draping and it's definitely a part that will make or break a piece. I take a piece of muslin, which is just a really basic blend fabric, and I started sculpting it to the dress form. And then those mock-ups that I make of the dress form are then fitted to the model, and sometimes I try them on a model, I'm like, this is hideous, I don't know why, it just overpowers her or something happens and that leads to even better ideas and even more just, creativeness. When you design while you create, I just think it takes so much longer and you like pressure yourself so much more. So, my design mind is turned off. And it's just about sewing, and sewing, and sewing, and sewing, and sewing. So after I finish draping, I take a part of that mockup and I totally seam rip it and I re-pattern it, and then I cut out of my real fabric. It's always really nerve-wracking 'cause a lot of times the fabric's all that you have, either the budget doesn't allow for you to get more fabric, or there's simply not anymore left. It has this like box-like structure in it. The box is actually lined with horse-hair so that it can kind of take the shape and that's why I'm kind of trying to like manipulate it right now 'cause it just takes on whatever shape you really need it to. The show, oh the show. Six days, and I'm still cutting up fabric like, I don't think that's normal. There's always going to be that last minute hurry up and finish like state of being. I have a picture in my mind about how this is supposed to go, but who knows if it actually go that way. I think that there can be a lot of different ways to read the look. Obviously you look for like the main things like color, silhouette, is this an evening piece, is this a day piece and you just kind of put the garment and choose certain categories and that really helps people read fashion out, by the time the piece is on the runway I'm already thinking about a whole new collection and I'm really thinking something totally different, but it doesn't really hit me that these people, for them it's the first time that they've seen this. I've spent months and months planning and sketching and putting it together. If I see all these different things in these pieces, but no one else does, then it's kind of sad, but then it's also part of what makes fashion art, is because people see it in so many different ways. We are in my home, studio, bedroom combination in Berkeley, California. I have this look from Project Runway Junior, which was the first episode, and this look for my most recent collection. They really mean a lot to me 'cause they show how much progress I've made within the last four, five months.

Fashion East, the legendary London-based non-profit mentorship scheme, has quietly disrupted the London Fashion Week schedule for the last 17 years. Carefully selected by a panel with razor sharp fashion sensibilities, six rising designers get the opportunity to be sponsored, mentored and guided by the team; from the classroom all the way to the catwalk, and beyond.
In the first episode of i-D’s latest documentary, we get to know Fashion East’s founder and director, Lulu Kennedy, and the elusive team behind the runway, who together have steered the careers of Gareth Pugh, Craig Green, Wales Bonner, Henry Holland, Martine Rose, Kim Jones, Charles Jeffrey, Matty Bovan and JW Anderson, amongst a myriad of other unique quintessentially British designers, all from an attic at the top of a winding staircase at their East London HQ.
We’re introduced to current designers including A Sai Ta and his nomadic-influenced ‘global aesthetic,’ derived from a Western perception of his Chinese-Vietnamese heritage, and fashion pranksters Rottingdean Bazaar, who drop in on a seaside Zumba class in their hometown on the south coast. Elsewhere, at the Royal Albert Hall, the 2017 Fashion Awards are looming, and Fashion East alumni are nominated in the star-studded line-up. Join us as we witness a season within Fashion East, the scheme that put young London fashion on the map.

First up is recent MA graduate and menswear designer Stefan Cooke, who digitally manipulates timeless fabrics and classic charity shop gems, reproducing the print onto flexible synthetic materials, dressing an army of princes for battle on the runway. To find out what it takes to become a designer, we join Lulu at an inspirational talk to fashion students at Central Saint Martins, meeting the up and coming names who have a Fashion East sponsorship in their sights. Finally we’re introduced to Charlotte Knowles, a womenswear designer that specialises in the tension between revealing and concealing, and the Fashion East team call her into the office for a chat about opportunities in the near future…
How do you make the leap from fashion graduate to fully fledged designer? What do the Fashion East team look for in a newcomer? And after having just joined the scheme, will Stefan be ready to show at MAN?

Oobah Butler of fake shed restaurant fame is back and this time he’s turned his attention to the world of fashion. Paris Fashion week is iconic amongst A-Listers and fashion inner circles. It's the place where you find all the next big trends, the crème de la crème of fashion weeks. Georgio Peviani was getting loads of attention at PFW.
Buyers from Milan wanted his denim in their stores, the inner-circle wanted him at their showrooms and A-Listers partied with him at night. But the man doesn't actually exist.. does he? This is the time Oobah Butler faked his way into Paris Fashion Week.
WATCH NEXT: The Shed at Dulwich was the number one rated restaurant in London, but the main problem was that it didn't exist - https://vice.video/2KbdNzI

M2M – Made To Measure
Alex Riley thinks he's immune to brands. When it comes to fashion, technology and food brands he just goes for the cheapest and what works for him. He's convinced he's not seduced by the advertising, celebrity endorsements and hype which surrounds the big global brands. So how did that pair of Adidas trainers get in his wardrobe? And how did that can of Heinz Baked Beans make it into his shopping trolley? And why does he have a Nokia mobile phone in his pocket rather than any other make?
With the help of marketeers, brain scientists and exclusive access to the world of the superbrands Alex sets out to find out why we buy them, trust them, even idolise them. Programme created by the BBC

Royal Mail has celebrated Britain's contribution to the world of fashion with the launch of a new set of stamps.
Britain is famous around the world for the creative vision of its home grown fashion designers. The ten first class stamps feature some of the most influential designers to have come out of the country since World War II. The set will include Hardy Aimes, Norman Hartnell, Granny Takes a Trip, Ossie Clark with Celia Birtwell, Tommy Nutter, Jean Muir, Zandra Rhodes, Vivienne Westwood, Paul Smith and Alexander McQueen.
The team at Royal Mail worked closely with Claire Wilcox, Senior Curator of Fashion at London's Victoria and Albert Museum, to draw up the list of the UK's most influential post war fashion design houses.
Each stamp showcases a prime example of the selected designer's work, shot especially for the issue by renowned fashion photographer, Sølve Sundsbø. These include Tommy Nutter's suit for Beatle Ringo Starr, which was recreated especially for the shoot, and Vivienne Westwood's 1993 Harlequin dress, famously modelled by Naomi Campbell.
The inspiration for the Great British Fashion series came following the launch of British Design Classics stamps in 2009. The stamps featured Mary Quant's daring mini skirt, which proved to be one of the most popular of the stamps featured in the issue, and prompted the decision to dedicate an entire issue to celebrating the work of our world-class designers.

Meghan failed to showcase British fashion on royal tour
With a dizzying 41 outfit changes over the course of 16 days on the royal tour, it's no wonder the Duchess of Sussex managed to showcase no fewer than 74 designer labels on her journey through four countries.
While royal women are expected to practice 'diplomatic dressing' while abroad by showcasing fashion from the host nation, it's also a chance to fly the flag for British fashion by wearing UK designers.
However, Meghan fell short of championing UK labels during the royal tour, wearing only 20 British designers out of 74 labels - the value of almost £118K.
Designers from the US were LA-born Meghan's go-to, wearing 25 different American brands - and some on multiple occasions.
Celebrity stylist Lucas Armitage told Femail that Meghan seems to have missed a trick in not taking the opportunity for more obvious promotion of her adopted home.
'The UK fashion business is in a state of crisis,' he said. 'We have seen huge fashion business with the Royal Warrant such as House of Fraser close stores and undergo major financial issues.
It’s no secret Meghan like Kate has a the power to boost any brand by choosing to wear a certain piece or designer so it would have been great to Meghan choose more British brands to showcase on a global scale.'
The British brands that received a seal of approval from Meghan during the royal tour include Stella McCartney and Antonio Berardi as she wore both designers twice - although two of these dresses were recycled and had been seen before.
When the Duchess did add a UK label to her outfit, it was often in the form of an accessory of pair of shoes, rather than a focal point such as a Burberry coat or Roksanda dress.
Of the 19 British labels she wore, 11 were a coat or dress while the rest were jewellery, footwear or hats.
It's not the first time that Meghan has missed an opportunity to champion the best of British design.
On her first official visit to Sussex, the county that inspired her royal title, she opted for a cream coat from Italian design house Armani, believed to have cost around £2,000, and a £369 leather skirt by German brand Hugo Boss.
She teamed the ensemble with a £69 shirt from & Other Stories, which is part of the Swedish H&M group and carried a £1,685 handbag from trendy New York designer Gabriela Hearst.
Meghan's preference for North American brands has been evident since her wedding to Harry in May 2018.
In September it was reported that out of the 22 outfits she had appeared in since she joined the Royal Family, only two were by British labels.
She’s mostly to be seen clad in North American designs - usually blue-chip brands including Ralph Lauren, Carolina Herrera and Oscar de la Renta.
She has also favoured legendary European fashion houses such as Prada, Dior and Givenchy.
It's believed that the influence of her best friend Jessica Mulroney may be the reason for Meghan's loyalty to little-known Canadian labels such as House of Nonie and Judith & Charles, which are closely associated with the Canadian stylist.
These brands that were hitherto unknown to the British public are naturally thrilled by the publicity boost.
