Scratchboard Illustration of an Acanthus Border for a Wine Label
Time-lapse video showing the process of rendering by hand an Acanthus Border in scratchboard. Note 1: I try to show my work process as accurately as possible. However, I do take some liberties with the editing of the videos. For instance, almost all my videos use time lapse to speed up the process. I would like to show an entire drawing in real time, but even my simplest drawings can take a full day--major drawings can take one to two weeks. No one wants to watch me draw for two weeks. Also, some of my edits are just for my own enjoyment. Video is a hobby for me, and I like to experiment. Note 2: I call my drawing medium scratchboard, and it is. However, a more accurate description of my technique would be "pen and ink on white scratchboard." I work on white scratchboard, and I draw with pen and ink the parts that have a value of 50 percent gray or less. For areas that are 50 percent gray or darker, I block in with solid black ink and scratch in white lines for detail. Note 3: I am showing how I work. However, although I have been an illustrator for over 35 years, there may be times when I am doing it wrong or not doing it in the best way. Note 4: I am a commercial artist--not a fine artist. My work is meant to be printed. My clients don't usually care what my work would look like hanging on a wall. They only care what it looks like when printed in their ad, book, billboard, package, etc. Almost all the drawings in my videos have been used commercially. Materials I use: Ampersand Claybord, white, 1/8 inch thick; Koh-i-noor Rapidograph pens (sizes I use most--.000, .00, .0); Higgins Black Magic ink or Koh-i-noor ink; Scratch-Art knives. Telč - A Unique Town Square in Southern Moravia
Telč, surrounded by ponds, is a small town in Southern Moravia near to Jihlava and not far from the Austrian border. Due to its rather unique market square, the historical centre was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1992: After a devastating fire in 1530 all the houses around its long urban plaza were rebuilt in a Renaissance and Baroque style and with arcades and high gables, and they are still well-conserved. Another important monument is the Renaissance chateau on the northwestern edge of the square. Various films were shot here, e.g. Werner Herzog's Woyzeck. Woyzeck (Werner Herzog).]

Convidando está la noche - New World Baroque music
“Convidando está la noche” is a Mexican villancico (church music in a popular style) composed in the 17th century by the Mexican composer Juan García de Zéspedes. “Convidando está la noche” is a genuine example of Mexican Baroque music inasmuch as it strongly reflects the multicultural and popular aspects of the society, which is the case in the majority of the music from the New World, including art music and church music. The chorus, 'el estribillo', is a Guaracha, a rapid dance style, probably of Spanish origin. The song is interpreted by the Danish early world music ensemble "Via Artis Konsort": Signe Asmussen, soprano Anne Marie Høst Mortensen, harp Mogens Rasmussen, viol Ernesto Manuitt, cuatro Poul Udbye Pock-Steen, ocarina, harpsichord For more information, please visit the webpage http://viaartis.info

10 Best Castles in the World!
The Best Castles in the world! And on the top of hills! Why are castles built on top of hills anyway? Castles were primarily built on top of hills to make them very inaccessible to invaders back in the day. EXPAND DESCRIPTION FOR MORE. Castle 1. NEUSCHWANSTEIN CASTLE, GERMANY Located in Bavaria in Germany. 2 hours by Car from Munich Neuschwanstein literally means “New Swan Castle” Inspiration for Sleeping Beauty castle at Disneyland. NEUSCHWANSTEIN Video: https://youtu.be/raJKrqS2w84?list=PLOVadUHX1B-J2MvlA_EIG1DkYxdO0LUQZ Castle 2. MONT SAINT MICHEL, FRANCE Mont Saint Michel or AKA Le Mont-Saint-Michel is the first exception to this list that could’ve gone on forever. Mont Saint Michel is actually a village-island commune located along the border of Brittany and Normandy in France. This is the first image that comes into my head when I think of castle like buildings on top of hills. Castle 3. THE PALACE OF PENA, PORTUGAL The palace in its present day form was commissioned by Ferdinand August Franz Anton from Austria , who married into the Portuguese royal family and became King Ferdinand II. King Ferdinand II marveled at the stunning views from the rocky outcrop and wished a castle built to rival the Neuschwanstein castle in Bavaria. PALACE OF PENA Video: https://youtu.be/gVLH8cROe0E Castle 4. HIMEJI CASTLE, JAPAN Himeji castle is so freaking cool, it’s a world heritage site and deserves your attention. It’s so majestic and Japan just happens to be lousy with these majestic castles. If it’s not Himeji it’s about 86 other castles that are similar looking or just as beautiful, but saying that Himeji is the best and I’ve visited it. It’s located very close to Kyoto only a Shinkansen ride away. Castle 5. PRAGUE CASTLE, CZECH REPUBLIC Prague Castle – Pražský hrad, or just hrad to Czechs – is Prague’s most popular attraction. According to the Guinness World Records, it’s the largest ancient castle in the world: 570m long, an average of 128m wide and covering a total area bigger than seven football fields. The castle has always been the seat of Czech monarchs as well as the official residence of the head of state. PRAGUE CASTLE Video: https://youtu.be/CYRERpcFl9g Castle 6. CHATEAU DE CHAMBORD, FRANCE Chateau de Chambord is one of those slightly above sea level castles I wanted to mention. It’s just slightly above sea level, probably by 1 metre or three feet. It’s built in French Renaissance style. French Renaissance style is a combination of classical Renaissance styles and French medieval influences. Castle 7. NAGOYA CASTLE, JAPAN Nagoya Castle was built in the beginning of the Edo Period as the seat of one of the three branches of the ruling Tokugawa family, the Owari branch. As such, it was one of the largest castles in the country, and the castle town around it ultimately grew to become Japan's fourth largest city. NAGOYA CASTLE Video: https://youtu.be/AeM8b6Sebi4 Castle 8. STOCKHOLM PALACE, SWEDEN Technically called the Royal Palace. It’s built in Baroque style and dates back to 1697 and was completed in 1760. That’s a long time. What took them so long?? Stockholm Palace is the official residence of the Swedish Royal Family. It seems that the Palace is still used as an official building for anything in regards to the Royal family be it representative purposes or duties that have to be prepared by the King who is head of state. Castle 9. CASTELLO DI AMOROSA, USA As the most visited winery in California, Castello di Amorosa is like an adult Disneyland in the North part of Napa Valley in Calistoga. The castle is 121,000 square feet and took 15 years to build, it was opened in 2007. The castle has 107 rooms and 95 are dedicated to wine, 4 levels above and 4 levels below. Wine flows through the walls in the castle as it is gravity fed from the tanks down to the barrels below. CASTELLO DI AMOROSA Video: https://youtu.be/1BUwoLNFz5s?t=2m3s Castle 10. BUDA CASTLE, BUDAPEST This castle was built by King Bela IV of Hungary between the years of 1247 and 1265. You can reach the castle by The Castle Hill Funicular or by a link from Széchenyi Chain Bridge which you can take from Clark Adam square area. The original part of the castle was built by the Hungarian kings back in 1265. The Baroque part of the castle was built between the years of 1749 and 1769. Places to see in ( Bressanone - Italy )
Places to see in ( Bressanone - Italy ) Brixen is a town in northern Italy. The baroque-style Cathedral of Brixen has a sumptuous marble interior. Nearby, the Chiostro di Bressanone is a Romanesque cloister with medieval frescoes. In the Bishop's Palace, the Diocesan Museum exhibits medieval and Renaissance art, plus a collection of crèches. The Gothic White Tower features 4 bay windows. The Plose, a mountain to the southeast, has trails and ski slopes. First mentioned in 901, Brixen is the third largest city and oldest town in the province, and the artistic and cultural capital of the valley. It is located at the confluence of the Eisack and Rienz rivers, 40 kilometres (25 mi) north of Bolzano and 45 kilometres (28 mi) south of the Brenner Pass, on the Italy-Austrian border. It is flanked on the eastern side by the Plose and Telegraph (Monte Telegrafo) mountains (2,504 m) and on the western side by the Königsanger (Monte Pascolo) (2,436 m) mountain. Brixen is especially known as a major skiing resort (the Plose). Other activities include hydroelectric power, orchards, and vineyards. Frazioni / incorporated villages: Afers (Eores), Albeins (Albes), Elvas, Gereuth, Karnol, Klerant (Cleran), Kranebitt (Costa d'Elvas), Mahr (La Mara), Mairdorf, Mellaun (Meluno), Pairdorf (Perara), Pinzagen (Pinzago), Plabach, Rutzenberg, St. Andrä (S.Andrea), St. Leonhard (S.Leonardo), Sarns (Sarnes), Tils (Tiles), Tötschling (Tecelinga), Tschötsch (Scezze), Untereben. The area of Brixen has been settled since the Upper Paleolithic (8th millennium BC). Other settlements from the late Stone Age have been found and in 15 BC, the area was conquered by the Romans, who had their main settlement in the nearby Säben (Sabiona). They held it until around 590, when it was occupied by Bavarians. Alot to see in Bressanone such as : The Cathedral (10th century), was rebuilt in the 13th century and again in 1745–54 along Baroque lines. The ceiling of the nave has a large fresco by Paul Troger portraying the Adoration of the Lamb. The Hofburg, a Renaissance Bishop's Palace (started in the 13th century), one of the main noble residences in South Tyrol. The Diocesan Museum has several artworks, including a presepe with 5,000 figures created for Bishop Karl Franz Lodron. The round parish church of Saint Michael (11th century). The Gothic choir and the bell tower are from the 15th century while the nave is from the 16th. The main artwork is a wooden Cireneus from the 15th century. The Pharmacy Museum (Pharmaziemuseum Brixen), located in a nearly 500-year-old townhouse, shows the development and changes of the local pharmacy. The Peer family (now the 7th generation) has run this pharmacy since 1787, always in the same location. The museum's carefully restored rooms illustrate the development of the pharmaceutical profession over the centuries and the changes in remedies used, from the testicles of a beaver and pieces of an ancient Egyptian mummy to modern plasters and lyophilisates. All the objects and medicines on display were in use over the centuries. The Museum also has a library for historical research and the archive of the Peer family. In a separate room there is a multimedia display of the history of the family. Outside the city is Rodeneck Castle, one of the most powerful of its time. It has precious frescoes from the early 13th century. Also important are Reifenstein Castle and Trostburg Castle in Waidbruck. In the latter lived the adventurer and minstrel Oswald von Wolkenstein. Salzburg (help·info) (Austro-Bavarian: Såizburg; literally: "Salt Castle") is the fourth-largest city in Austria and the capital city of the federal state of Salzburg. Salzburg's "Old Town" (Altstadt) has internationally renowned baroque architecture and one of the best-preserved city centres north of the Alps. It was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. The city is noted for its Alpine setting. Salzburg was the birthplace of 18th-century composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. In the mid-20th century, the city was the setting for parts of the American musical and film The Sound of Music, which features famous landmarks in Austria. The musical was a partnership between Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II. The capital city of the State of Salzburg (Land Salzburg), the city has three universities. It has a large population of students who add liveliness and energy to the area, and the universities provide culture to the community. Photos and videos were taken with a Nikon COOLPIX P100, not the newer Nikon COOLPIX P500. But performance and features should be almost identical. Getreidegasse (also known as Grain Lane) is a busy shopping street in the Old-Town section of Salzburg. The house at no. 9 Getreidegasse is the place where Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born and where he lived until the age of 17. Originally called Trabegasse (derived from traben "to trot"), its name was changed several times before it became the Grain Lane. The Mirabell Palace (German: Schloss Mirabell) is a historical building in Salzburg, Salzburgerland, Austria. It was built in the Baroque style, with Italian and French models, by Archbishop Wolf Dietrich Raitenau in 1606. In its geometrically-arranged gardens are mythology-themed statues dating from 1730 and four groups of sculpture (Eneas, Hercules, Paris and Pluton) by the Italian sculptor Ottavio Mosto, from 1690. It is noted for its boxwood layouts. Salzburg is a tourist favourite, with the number of tourists outnumbering locals by a large margin in peak times. In addition to Mozart's birthplace noted above, other notable places include: Old Town The entire Old Town of Salzburg was nominated as a World Heritage Site in 1996. The baroque architecture including the many churches are world famous. The Salzburg Cathedral (Salzburger Dom) The Hohensalzburg Castle (Festung Hohensalzburg) on a hill dominating the old town is one of the largest castles in Europe, with views over Salzburg. The Franziskanerchurch The St Peter's Abbey with the Petersfriedhof The Nonnberg Abbey a Benedictine monastery The Residenz Palace (the magnificent former Prince-Archbishop's residence), containing the Residenzgalerie Mozart's Birthplace Mozart's Residence The University Church The Siegmundstor (or Neutor) The Getreidegasse Outside the Inner Old Town Palace of Mirabell with its wide gardens full of flowers. St. Sebastian's cemetery (Sebastiansfriedhof) The palace of Leopoldskron is a rococo palace and a national historic monument in Leopoldskron-Moos, a southern district of the city of Salzburg. Hellbrunn with its parks and castles Tour companies operate tours of locations used in the film The Sound of Music. Within the greater Salzburg area Anif Castle The Basilika Maria Plain on the Calvary Hill, a late Baroque church, on the northern edge of Salzburg. Salzburger Freilichtmuseum Großgmain, an open-air museum containing old farmhouses/farm buildings from all over the state assembled in historic setting. The Schloss Klessheim Palace (today a Casino) was formerly used by Adolf Hitler. The Berghof, Hitler's mountain retreat of which only the Eagle's Nest remains, was in nearby Berchtesgaden. The Salzkammergut is an area of lakes in the Salzburg state, east of the city and further on into the provinces of Upper Austria and Styria. The Untersberg mountain is next to the city, straddling the German-Austrian border, and on a clear day provides panoramic views of the city and the Alps. Skiing is an attraction during winter. Salzburg itself has no skiing facilities, but it acts as a gateway to skiing areas to the south. During the winter months its airport receives charter flights from around Europe.

Arad City Guide. I suppose that everyone who is a consumer of Romanian Hub content and studies the Romanian language would eventually like to go to Romania. While I live abroad in Thailand, I do go back home occasionally so I have a good archive of photos and videos which I want to share with you in this new series called Romanian Travel Guides. Here are 10 places you should visit next time you’re in Arad. 1. Palatul administrativ The Administrative Palace Built between 1872 and 1876, Palatul administrativ has a U-shaped building with a central clock tower that is 54 m heigh. Its overall architecture combines characteristics of new-Renaissance with the style of late medieval town halls. 2. Malul Mureșului Mureș River Bank The northern bank of Mureș River, the second longest river in Romania, is flanked by kilometers long parks where you can jog, cycle, or just go for a walk. It can be easily reached from almost anywhere downtown. 3. Podul pietonal peste Mureș Pedestrian Bridge over Mureș You can cross Mureș River on a fairly new pedestrian bridge and enter Ștrandul Neptun, an open air public swimming pool. During the off-season, when the pool is closed, you can still cross the river and chill out at one of the restaurants on the river bank. 4. Catedrala Nașterea Sfântului Ioan Botezătorul Nativity of Saint John the Baptist Catedral This Ortodox cathedral was built between 1862 and 1865 and it is a beautiful example of classical neo-Baroque style of architecture. 5. Teatrul Clasic Ioan Slavici Ioan Slavici Classic Theatre The theatre is centrally located in the axis of the city’s main boulevard and has a seating capacity of 1,250. The theatre was damaged by fire twice, in 1883 and 1957, but its Neo-Classical architectural style has been preserved. 6. Monumentul Ostașului Român The Romanian Soldier Monument This monument is located behind Teatrul Clasic Ioan Slavici in Piața Avram Inacu, one of the largest public squares in the city. It was build to honor the Romanian soldiers who gave their life to free Romanian from fascist occupation. 7. Catedrala Sfânta Treime Holy Trinity Cathedral This cathedral is a fairly new addition to the cityscape of Arad as it was inaugurated only in 2008. It has four domes and four golden crosses are mounted on each one of the domes. It’a a massive structure facing the city’s major roundabout. 8. Lacul de la Pădurice Little Forest Lake Next to Catedrala Sfânta Treime there’s a quiet little artificial lake which takes its name after an adjoining park full of trees. During the winter, the lake transforms in an outdoor ice-skating rink while in milder weather it gives a nice reflection of the surrounding architecture. 9. Consiliul Județean Arad Arad City Council The glass building of Arad City Council might not have a classical look like most of the architecture downtown Arad, but it’s modern look makes for a good photo opportunity. 10. Cartierul Podgoria Podgoria Neighborhood Cartierul Podgoria is small and quaint neighborhood located right in the center of the city. Its alleys, brick four-story apartment buildings, and green areas make it as the perfect location for a walkabout in your city exploration. If you’re coming to Romania from Hungary, then Arad must be your first stopover. Or else, make sure you spend one or two days in this great hometown of mine. Let me know in the comments section what’s your favourite place in Romania or what destinations you’d like to travel to. And, don’t forget to SUBSCRIBE. In that way you won’t miss the next episode. Ceau. This is Mihnea, signing out from Bangkok.

Friesians, the Movie (Trailer II)
www.friesians-themovie.com --- Five countries - twenty nine people - one passion - Friesian horses. In 1913 there were only three pedigree stallions registered. Friesian horses were almost extinct. Since they were rescued from extinction these black dream horses began a triumphal march throughout the world. This film was shot in five countries. It introduces us to Friesian horses and their people. It shows the magic of these horses and why it was worth keeping this breed. It also includes a short summary of the history of the Friesian horse. The large amount of information about the Friesian horse gained through interesting interviews also overcomes existing prejudice against this breed. Personal stories, hard facts and wonderful pictures alternate in turns. We get to know the Friesian horse in its role as a working horse, riding horse, in classic and baroque style dressage, for riding holidays, in horse shows, as a family horse and best of all as a friend. Beautiful background music and impressive pictures lend this story about the Friesian horse an artistic quality. Participants in this film are the Friesian Pope Günther Fröhlich, the American actress Jacqueline Collen-Tarrolly, the three-times German Grade IV champion Karen Schnoor, and many others. This film is a great delight for those, who have fallen in love with the Friesian horse, but also for all people with a great passion for horses. A declaration of love across all borders for this wonderful breed of horses.

Sopron. Historic city centre | Hungary #10
A visit to Sopron in north-western Hungary on the Austrian-Hungarian border. Roman in origin, Sopron experienced its heyday in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Most of the town was destroyed during a great fire in 1676. After this tragedy, many buildings were rebuilt in baroque style. This is the Sopron we still see today.

Places to see in ( Barletta - Italy )
Places to see in ( Barletta - Italy ) Barletta is a city, comune and capoluogo together with Andria and Trani of Apulia, in south eastern Italy. Barletta is also a provincia and its population is around 94.700 citizens. The city's territory belongs to the Valle dell'Ofanto, indeed, the Ofanto river crosses the countryside and forms the border between the territory of Barletta and that of Margherita di Savoia. The mouth of the river is in the territory of Barletta. The area of Barletta also includes part of the battlefield of Cannae. This is a very important archeological site, remembered for the major battle in 216 B.C. between the Romans and the Carthaginians, won by Hannibal. The site has been recognisied as Città d'Arte (city of art) of Apulia in the 2005 for the beautiful architecture. Cannae flourished in the Roman period and then after a series of debilitating Saracen attacks, was finally destroyed by the Normans and then abandoned in the early Middle Ages. Barletta is famous for the Colossus of Barletta, a bronze statue, representing a Roman Emperor (perhaps Theodosius II). This statue, called "Eraclio" by the inhabitants of Barletta, is about 4 metres (13 feet) tall, and remains the biggest statue that survives from the late Roman Empire (i.e. the Roman Empire after Constantine). According to a local folk story, Eraclio saved the city from a Saracen attack. Seeing the Saracen ships approaching Barletta's coast, Eraclio waited for them on the sea shore. Here Eraclio acted as if he was crying so the Saracens asked him why he was sad and Eraclio answered that he was sad because he was the smallest among Barletta's inhabitants and so everybody made fun of him. The Saracens thought that Barletta's inhabitants were all giants so left the coast, fearing to face them. The principal monuments of the city are: The Castle is a structure initially erected in the 10th century by the Normans as a typical motte and bailey structure. During the Crusade period, it was a used as a hostel for soldiers leaving for the Holy Land. It was upgraded and enlarged substantially under the reign of Frederick II between 1225 and 1228. This corresponds to the period in which he launched a crusade from here, the Sixth Crusade. The castle was later expanded under the House of Anjou, when Barletta became an important centre of Aragonese-Spanish control in the area, in 1527. Charles had the building expanded again and the four massive bastions added to create the present fortress form. In 1915 the fortress, then in use as a barracks and military store, was bombarded by the German battleship Helgoland. In September 1943 it was the setting of an Italian military defence unit against a German army. The Colossus of Barletta, a large bronze statue of a Roman Emperor. The nearby Basilica of the Holy Sepulchre (Basilica of San Sepolcro, built in the 12th century) and the former headquarters outside the city walls of the Knights of Malta, it stood next to a hospital for pilgrims (now demolished) to the Holy Land during the medieval period, a Romanesque church with particular Oriental influences from Jerusalem. The façade represents the Baroque style. The Cathedral of Santa Maria Maggiore on the former site of the temple of Neptune, is an example of the fusion of Gothic and Roman styles. In its interior, at a lower level, are grotticella tombs from the 3rd century BC, over which is the Palaeo-Christian basilica (6th century AD) with another basilica being added to that in the 9th century. In the 12th century a new building was erected in Romanesque style, being consecrated in 1267; this was renovated in the Gothic style in the 14th century The Church of San Giacomo (11th century), named after St. John the Great 'Matamoros', was erected on the site of what had been the temple of Isis in Roman times. It was restored and re-consecrated in 1751 shortly after the last disastrous earthquake which destroyed the town of Barletta almost completely. The Cellar of the Challenge, a former prison for galley slaves. The Palace of the Marra, an example of Baroque architecture outside Salento and near the home of the municipal art gallery. The archeological site of the Canne della Battaglia, the location of the Battle of Cannae. Through Ružomberok, Slovakia : Sicily to Ukraine by camper van part 80
SEE MY FACEBOOK GROUP ON MOTORHOME TRAVEL : https://www.facebook.com/motorhomefulltime See full playlist for this journey : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LUbqa8kLMJM&list=PLA-kB4tPU6Tu4hJpJDg7Vh3MVf2MgsIH5 Here I drive through the northern Slovakian town of Ružomberok which is located in the Liptov Basin of the Sub-Tatra Basin. It is surrounded by the mountain ranges of Chočské vrchy, Greater Fatra and Low Tatras. Rivers flowing through the town are Váh, from east to west, Revúca and Likavka. The town is located around 65 km from Žilina, 190 km from Košice and 260 km from Bratislava (by road). From the second half of the 10th century until 1918, it was part of the Kingdom of Hungary. The first written mention about settlement was in 1233 as terra Reuche. The town was established by Germans, who named it Rosenberg. It got its town rights in 1318. In 1340, Hungarian King Charles Robert confirmed its town rights and extended more. However, its growth was interrupted as it was placed under Likavka rule. In the 19th century, it was one of the centres of Slovak national movement. It slowly became one of the industrial and financial centres of the Kingdom of Hungary, particularly after the Kassa Oderberg Railway was completed in 1871, when many new factories emerged including paper and pulpwood works, brick works (1871) and the textile industry. After the break-up of Austria--Hungary in 1918, Ružomberok became a part of Czechoslovakia. According to the 2001 census, the town had 30,417 inhabitants. 96.64% of inhabitants were Slovaks, 0.95% Roma and 0.87% Czech. The religious make-up was 75.47% Roman Catholics, 14.65% people with no religious affiliation, and 5.46% Lutherans. Ruzomberok is the home of paper and packaging manufacturer Mondi SCP. The centre of the town is located at the Andrej Hlinka Square (Námestie Andreja Hlinku). Among the sights in or around the Square are the Roman Catholic Church of St. Andrew, first mentioned in 1318 and originally built as a Gothic, but now is in a Renaissance-Baroque style; town hall, built in 1895 in the neo-Baroque style and the church and monastery of the Holy Cross (built 1806 and 1730 respectively). Cultural institutions in the towns include the Liptov Museum, established in 1912 which also has exhibitions outside the town. These include the Likava Castle, which is just outside the town in the Likavka village; and the Museum of the Liptov Village in Pribylina. The Ľudovít Fulla Gallery is a branch of the Slovak National Gallery and is dedicated to Fulla's works of art. The town also has the only scout museum in Slovakia. Other sights within the town include the Evangelic church from 1923--1926, a historic building of the railway station from 1871, now protected as a national historic monument; Calvary above the town in the Classicist style, built in 1858; synagogue from 1880; and the church in Černová, where the tragedy in 1907 happened. Robin Williamson & His Merry Band - Journey's Edge (1977 full album)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: Journey's Edge is a folk album, and the second solo work released in 1977 by Robin Williamson and his Merry Band. It was re-released in 2008 by Fledg'ling Records with ten bonus tracks. Journey's Edge was the beginning of a creative period for Williamson. It is the beginning of Williamson's interest with the harp, then played by Sylvia Woods, and ancient bardic poetry. These new interests would be increasingly evident in later albums and storytelling by Williamson. This is the first post Incredible String Band era album by Williamson. It is a mixture of folk, baroque, pop, and Celtic music. Tracks like "Border Tango" and "Red Eye Blues" deal with remembering and travel. It is not until the track "Tomorrow" that there is a sense with the future. Overall, there is a sense of emotional integrity expressed by Williamson in his vocals that give a deeper meaning to the lighthearted songs. Williamson masterfully prolonged syllables within the tracks that is reminiscent of his Incredible String Band days. The Merry Band's exceptional musicianship aid in creating the style Williamson had desired in the past. He and the troupe would tour regularly in the mid-seventies. The addition of the Celtic style and acoustic ensemble would be a trademark of Williamson and The Merry Band on further works. "Likky Lambert", guesting on the album, is actually former String Band member Licorice McKechnie. Her final recording appearances are on the tracks "Tomorrow" and "The Bells". 1 Border Tango - 00:00 2 The Tune I Hear So Well - 02:45 3 Red Eye Blues - 07:11 4 Tomorrow - 10:40 5 Mythic Times - 14:31 6 Lullaby For A Rainy Night - 21:40 7 Rap City Rhapsody - 25:50 8 The Maharajah Of Mogador - 29:28 9 The Bells - 31:45 10 Voices Of The Barbary Coast - 34:41 11 Out On The Water - 39:58
