Click here to order: https://streamlineartvideo.com/products/max-ginsburg-the-legacy-of-an-american-painter Visit https://streamlineartvideo.com to sign up for updates and future releases. Unlike most art video producers, Streamline takes you into the mind and the life of the artist, enabling understanding of the motivations behind the paintings. In this two-DVD set, we give you an in-depth painting demonstration as Max Ginsburg paints a live model. You’ll see how he poses and lights the model, how he sets up his paints and palette, and the step-by-step process of creating the painting. Though it may, to some, seem almost impossible, Max’s generous teaching style makes his portrait process one that anyone can follow, whether a novice or a professional. Max Ginsburg’s classes at the Art Students League in New York are always full, with a waiting list. This is the first time in Max’s 80-plus years that he has released a painting video showing the techniques he’s learned in 65 years as an artist. Plus, you’ll learn about his thinking process as he paints, why he does what he does, why he chooses the colors, the lines, and the brushstrokes. This DVD set includes a special interview with Max by Peter Trippi, the renowned editor of Fine Art Connoisseur magazine, plus Max walks through a show of his work at the Butler Museum and explains the thinking behind most of the paintings. As a bonus, Max does a second demo painting while having a discussion with Fine Art Connoisseur publisher B. Eric Rhoads. You’ll get to see Max paint two portraits.

009: Christian Rex van Minnen and Aaron Johnson on a New Era of American Painting | Radio Juxtapoz

55:41
In episode 9 of the Radio Juxtapoz Podcast, hosts Evan Pricco and Doug Gillen sit down with American painters Christian Rex van Minnen and Aaron Johnson the night after their collective solo show, In Heaven, Everything is Fine, opened at Ross + Kramer Gallery in NYC. Both painters have shared a friendship for years that has blossomed into showing work simultaneously, and at times, collectively. In this episode, we talk about a new era of painting, what lowbrow has meant over the centuries and internalizing the current political climate and finding a new voice in both artists' paintings. At the beginning of the episode, Evan (editor of Juxtapoz Magazine) and Doug (founder and director of FifthWallTV) discuss the idea of hero worship and how one can, if possible, separate the art from the artist. https://anchor.fm/radio-juxtapoz https://www.juxtapoz.com/ https://www.instagram.com/fifthwalltv/ http://rkgallery.com/

New American Paintings x Future Shipwreck: Iva Gueorguieva

03:14
The work of LA-based artist Iva Gueorguieva is an elegant and controlled form of chaos, evoking movement at every possible turn. Gueorguieva's paintings and collages clamor with so many visible points of entry that, when standing in front of one, it's impossible to focus on any one place. (She also makes some really great noises when describing her work.) The focus of this month's Spotlight feature in edition #91 of New American Paintings, currently on newsstands, Gueorguieva opens up about her process, the importance of cutting in her work, and how something as simple as sound informs the paintings she makes. For our first New American Paintings video production, we teamed up with blogger Graham Kolbeins of Future Shipwreck fame, who caught up with the Bulgarian-born artist recently while working in her studio. Enjoy! More videos coming soon! http://www.newamericanpaintings.com

Albert Bierstadt - American Paintings

05:01
Albert Bierstadt (1830-1902) is best known for his spectacular landscapes of the unsettled west. He was born in Germany, and was two years old when his family emigrated to America and settled in New Bedford, Massachusetts. Beginning in 1859, he made three trips west, each time making oil sketches on paper. When he returned to his studio, he used these sketches and oil studies to paint huge, detailed panoramic views (some 6 feet by 10 feet) of Western scenery. His paintings emphasized the spectacular landscapes, sometimes exaggerating what he had seen and changing a few details to make the scene more interesting. Music: The Angler - HANS ZIMMER

Todd Schorr: American Surreal - Ape Paintings

02:33
As a young boy Todd Schorr came across the movie King Kong which had a profound effect on him. He has recently been creating paintings with themes of Apes in them. In this video Schorr talks about seeing King Kong and also discusses a work of his titled The Anguish of Carl Akeley. Todd Schorr: American Surreal is the first mid-career retrospective of the Los Angeles-based artist. Schorr is a leading figure in Southern California's cartoon-based movement, dubbed Pop Surrealism, which embraces low-brow culture and a ribald graphic style indebted to pop sources such as Mad magazine. Schorrs astonishing, highly polished realism, (inspired by Bosch, Brueghel and Dali), sets him apart from his best-known peers such as Camille Rose Garcia, Gary Baseman, and Mark Ryden. The exhibition, curated by SJMAs Senior Scholar and Curator of Collections Susan Landauer, is accompanied by a book published by Last Gasp, San Francisco. Exhibition runs June 20 through September 16, 2009 at the San Jose Museum of Art

Willard Leroy Metcalf: A collection of 205 paintings (HD)

19:42
Willard Leroy Metcalf: A collection of 205 paintings (HD) Description: "Willard Metcalf, a contemporary of Childe Hassam, Mary Cassatt, and John Twachtman, was a well-regarded Impressionist artist, teacher and illustrator who became known as a classic painter of the landscapes of his native New England. One of the “Ten American Painters” (also known as “The Ten”), a group whose members resigned from the Society of American Artists to form their own (small) association, Metcalf influenced many painters while teaching at Cooper Union and the Art Students League in New York. He achieved great fame in his lifetime, winning a Webb Prize in 1896 for his painting Gloucester Harbor (1895), being elected to membership in the American Academy of Arts and Letters, and having his work exhibited at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. Willard Leroy Metcalf, known to his friends as “Metty,” was born July 1, 1858, in Lowell, Mass., to Greenleaf Willard, a violinist with the Boston Orchestra and Margaret Jan Gallop. He spent much of his childhood in Maine before the family moved to Cambridge, Mass., in 1871. His early artistic gifts were celebrated by his parents, and Metcalf started working in a Boston wood engraving shop while attending classes at the Massachusetts Normal Art School (now the Massachusetts College of Art.) At age 16, he was apprenticed to the painter George Loring Brown, and two years later, he was admitted to the Boston Museum of Fine Arts School, where he received one of the school’s first scholarships and studied under William Rimmer. In 1883, Metcalf went to Europe for the first time, and while there, he traveled broadly, painting in England, Italy, North Africa and several French locations. In 1885, near Fontainebleau, he completed Sunset at Grez (1885), a stunning success from his early art career. He studied in Paris at the prestigious Académie Julian and painted landscapes at Grez near Barbizon, Pont-Aven, Brittany and Giverny, in the company of some of the best painters of his generation. Drawn by French Impressionist Claude Monet’s reputation, he may have been the first American artist to arrive to Giverny in 1886 before the area became a veritable colony of American Impressionists. While Metcalf’s landscapes of the late 1880s reveal increasing skill in brushwork and the use of light, the artist remained partial to the atmospheric poetry of Tonalism and the Barbizon tradition of painting outdoors. He did not copy the technique of Monet, whose children he tutored in the study of flowers and birds. Rather than adopting a consistent style, in fact, Metcalf allowed his subjects to determine his technique. In 1888, Metcalf returned to the Boston area, where he held a one-man exhibition at the St. Botolph Club. Two years later, in search of portrait commissions, he moved to New York City. His prolific year of 1895 was marked by bright, sun-lit outdoor scenes inspired by his summers in Gloucester, Mass. Metcalf was a sociable man who enjoyed gathering with companions for long evenings of dining and drinking; however, he had unhappy and tawdry relationships with women, marrying twice and divorcing twice. His first wife, Marguerite Beaufort Hailé, was a stage performer from New Orleans who was 20 years his junior and served as his model for murals he painted for a New York courthouse. They began living together in 1899 and were married in 1903. The marriage was brief and ended when Marguerite ran away with painter Robert Nisbet, a former student of Metcalf’s. In 1909, the artist, attracted by the area’s winter scenes, moved to Cornish, N.H. According to Deborah Van Buren, “there are probably more known paintings of the Cornish landscape by Metcalf than by any other colony members.”1 Writer Catherine Beach Ely said that “he gives us the mood of snow-filled air and the frost feeling of Winter among lonely hills and trees; [he] gives us also the first disintegrated breach of Spring on deep New England snows.”2 Spring came again to the artist’s life in 1911 when he married Henriette Alice McCrea, with whom he had two children. This marriage also failed, however. Metcalf had a gift for drawing and a fortune for travel, and from 1920 to 1924, he painted all over New England. He continued to produce compelling scenes of nature in its seasonal phases almost until his death at his home in New York in 1925." --- SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?sub_confirmation=1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LearnFromMasters/ Google+: https://plus.google.com/+LearnFromMasters Contact: [email protected] --- Thanks for all support!

Childe Hassam Oil Painting

01:29
Childe Hassam(October 17, 1859 -- August 27, 1935) was a prominent and prolific American Impressionist painter, noted for his urban and coastal scenes. Along with Mary Cassatt and John Henry Twachtman, Hassam was instrumental in promulgating Impressionism to American collectors, dealers, and the museums. He produced over 3,000 oil paintings, watercolors, etchings, and lithographs in his career, and was a founding member of The Ten, an influential group of American artists of the early 20th century. His most famous works are the "Flag" oil paintings, completed during World War I. Childe Hassam was born in 1859 near Boston. In 1872 a great fire in Boston destroyed his father's business, forcing Hassam to leave school. He found a job with a publishing firm, but having little talent for business, he began work as an apprentice to a wood engraver and later created illustrations for such magazines as Harper's and The Century. Between 1877 and 1879, Hassam attended evening classes at the Boston Art Club, studied briefly with William Rimmer at the Lowell Institute, and also took private painting lessons. http://www.artisoo.com/shop-by-artist-childe-hassam-c-66_156_316.html http://www.artisoo.com/

Leon Kennedy. Visionary artist painting on cardboard. Outsider master.

http://shop.ebay.com/bayartwork/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=&_trksid=p4340 Leon Kennedy. Visionary artist painting on cardboard. Outsider master. The visionary artwork of spiritual painter Leon Kennedy. African-American spiritual visionary Leon Kennedy (b. 1945, Houston, Texas) uses mixed media on found objects to paint ecstatic visions, memory paintings, and urban life portraits. Kennedy is featured on several pages of Rosnak's "Contemporary American Folk Art" (Abbeville, 1996), and in Betty-Carol Sellen's important survey, "Self Taught, Outsider, and Folk Art" (McFarland & Company, 1999). In 1997, the Smithsonian Institution purchased 200 significant works from the renowned Rosenak collection for an undisclosed sum estimated to be near $2M. This acquisition included a bed-sheet by Kennedy. The 1997 Folk Art Messenger, Vol. 10, No.3, reported that the acquisition makes the Smithsonian American Art Museum the world's preeminent repository for American self-taught art. "It is our desire to see them as part of the history of 20th-century American art," said Chuck Rosenak. Mentioning Kennedy, the article notes these works were the first American collection exhibited at the Collection de l'Art Brut, Switzerland, which "testifies to its quality and uniqueness." The Leon Kennedy masterwork now resides at the Smithsonian American Art Museum, while photos of Kennedy and other materials of Kennedy's are available for study at the National Archives in Washington, D.C. http://www.folkart.org/mag/... If I only paint one style, sure, Ill be more market-able for a while, but Id be stifling my artists voice. I just want to unleash what it is thats inside of me, and that is constantly evolving.
