Traveling Iran by train | DW Documentary

42:25
Iran is opening its doors to foreigners and a train ride from the Persian Gulf to the Caspian Sea is a great way to get to know the country and its people. The travel restrictions that are now being lifted were in place for decades. Many Iranians are hoping they will now be able to lead a freer life – and we meet many of these hospitable and welcoming people on our journey through the Middle Eastern nation. The country’s most important rail link, the Trans-Iranian Railway, runs for approximately 1400 kilometers from the Persian Gulf via Teheran to the Caspian Sea. The journey starts in Khorramshahr on the Shatt al-Arab, the river border between Iraq and Iran. Traveling past oil fields, the train reaches Shushtar. One of the top sights here is the historic hydraulic system, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After that, the train heads up into the Zagros Mountains. The journey is interrupted by a break for prayer. Breath-taking landscapes move past the train window until we reach the highest point not only of our journey but of the entire rail network: 2,200 meters above sea level between Dorud and Arak. During a brief stop in Qom, travelers can refuel with sohan, a pastry made of wheat germ, flour and sugar. The next section of the track is high-speed and we continue on to Teheran at 160 km/h. The metropolitan area is home to more than 15 million people. The last leg takes us to the north of the country. In the Alborz Mountains, we find out what role the Trans-Iranian Railway played during Stalin’s major offensive against the German army in World War II. Our oriental rail adventure ends in Bandar-e Torkaman on the Caspian Sea. _______ Exciting, powerful and informative – DW Documentary is always close to current affairs and international events. July 2, 2017 (Persian calendar 1396/4/11) The Iranian Navy on Sunday began massive military exercises in waters of the Caspian Sea north of the country. A huge number of naval forces aboard destroyers and military vessels are taking part in the drills, code-named “Sustainable Security and Power 96”. During the five-day maneuver, new weapons, military systems, and equipment manufactured by the Iranian Defense Ministry will be unveiled or tested by the Navy. A number of the Air Force’s fighter jets and air defense systems have also been deployed to the area to ensure the security of the drills. Over the past few years, the Iranian Navy's forces have held several military drills in southern and northern waters. Deputy Commander of Iranian Navy Rear Admiral Mahmoud Mousavi دريابان محمود موسوي said the naval forces are planned to test the country’s new weapons and military equipment in the ongoing military drills in northern Iran. The war game code-named “Sustainable Security and Power 96 امنيت پايدار و قدرت نودوشش” is part of annual exercises of the Nay in the waters of the Caspian Sea, Admiral Mousavi said in a press conference on Sunday. Sea and air units of the Navy, shore-to-sea missile systems, diving teams, healthcare, intelligence systems, and commando units specialized in marine warfare have been deployed to the drills, he noted. The commander further emphasized that ensuring the security of the northern and southern waters has always been one of the main goals of the Islamic Republic. During the five-day exercises, new weapons, military systems, and equipment are going to be tested by the Navy, he said. The TRUTH about OIL and the SYRIAN WAR

04:50
★ Go to https://dukesman.com and support Real Matters ► Subscribe on YouTube : http://bit.ly/2uQHX6B ► Instagram : http://bit.ly/2uQIq8R Lets look at the oil and natural gas pipelines that run through the Middle East and Syria and why this conflict is really about Europe's addiction to oil in 2017. Remember to Like & Sub! Check out my new report. Why Erdogan is Nervous about The Kurds in Turkey : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wun4CR-DvwY&t=5s ________________ Syria itself is not a major energy producer in the region, however its importance lies as a potential transit hub from energy suppliers like Saudi Arabia, Iran and Iraq towards the thirsty energy markets of Europe. Notably proposed pipelines of major energy projects would pass through Syria , into Turkey and then enter the European grid. With the onset of the Civil war in Syria, the proposed pipeline projects have all been put on hold and their future is unclear. The most important aspect of this, is Europes need for energy diversity. Europe and Russia The EU’s energy thirst is estimated to be the second largest in the world after the United States. Notably, some 70- 80% of its energy requirements are satisfied by Russian gas and oil, piped in mostly through Ukraine. Disputes between Ukraine and Russia over energy first publicly surfaced in 2002 and culminated in 2009 when Russia cut supplies to Ukraine for short period of time, setting off panic in European capitals. This made the issue of Europes energy reliance on Russia more pressing. The subsequent Civil war in Ukraine is also deeply linked to this relationship. But this will be examined in a later video so please Subscribe with the button below if you want to hear more about that. European leaders came to the understanding that Europe needed a more diverse energy environment. Backed by the United States they sought to bring energy supplies, mainly from the energy rich Middle East into Europe. Syria’s position as a important transit route elevated the need for an agreement with the Syrian government that would bring supplies from the energy rich Gulf and Saudi Arabia into Europe, bypassing Russia . The Syrian Pipelines A Pipeline was proposed by Saudi Arabia and Qatar ,backed by the United States , which would use Syria as a transit route. The Pipelines would Saudi- Qatar pipeline would pass through Jodan - Syria and Turkey before entering Europe. The Syrian Government rejected the proposal. Syria's rationale for the rejection the Saudi-Qatari pipeline proposal was said to be "to protect the interests of [its] Russian ally, which is Europe's top supplier of natural gas." A competing Pipelines was also proposed dubbed The Iran-Iraq-Syria pipeline . A natural gas pipeline running from Iran towards Europe via Iraq, Syria and Lebanon to supply European customers as well as Iraq, Syria and Lebanon. The pipelines ran into numerous problems mostly from US pressure and its Swiss backers have since stopped its financing. The earliest proposed Pipeline intended to bypass Russia was the Nabucco Pipeline. Which aims to bring Caucasus and Iraqi oil through Turkey, the balkans and ending in Austria. This project is also supported by a number of EU member states and the United States. The project was later scrapped in favour of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline , which has now been almost completed and will start by bringing BP’s Azerbaijani Energy through Turkey - Greece- Albanian into Italy. The project is aimed to start supplying oil and gas by 2018 and the pipeline itself is in the final stages of competition. Once ready, this will be the first major means of energy diversification in Europe.

November 26, 2017 (Persian calendar 1396/9/5) Iranian naval forces have thwarted a pirate attack on one of the country’s merchant vessels in the Gulf of Aden شاخاب عدن. Iran's 48th naval fleet, comprised of Alvand destroyer ناوشكن الوند and Lavan لاوان logistic warship, rescued the Iranian ship from an attack by pirates in south of Ras Sharbitat region in Oman عمان on Sunday morning. Gulf of Aden pirates attacked the Iranian merchant ship, named Caspian Harmony, in a bid to hijack it, but they were forced to flee after a heavy exchange of fire by the Iranian fleet. Iran's 48th naval fleet set off for high seas on September 2 on a mission to maintain the Islamic Republic’s power in international waters and safeguard maritime routes. In recent years, Iran’s Navy has increased its presence in international waters to protect naval routes and provide security for merchant vessels and tankers. In line with international efforts against piracy, the Iranian Navy has been conducting patrols in the Gulf of Aden since November 2008, safeguarding merchant containers and oil tankers owned or leased by Iran or other countries. Iran’s Navy has managed to foil several attacks on both Iranian and foreign tankers during its missions in international waters. Caspian Fish & Caviar

07:03
Azerbaijan on the map resembles a bird that flies from the east with wide open wings. Baku, the capital looking to the Caspian, is a rapidly developing industrial city. This ancient country, once an important stop on the Great Silk Road, has many exciting places - the Bronze Age petroglyphs, medieval minarets and mosques and the famous Azerbaijani carpets. About a third of the population of Azerbaijan lives in the capital, the largest metropolis of the South Caucasus. This beautiful city is located around the ideal bay, the Baku Gulf in the lower part of the Absheron Peninsula. Baku and the 70-kilometer peninsula enjoy sunny and surprisingly dry weather. Azerbaijan is still a Klondike of "black gold". So they call not only oil, but also black caviar. Its extraction is now strictly controlled and limited by state quotas. The best caviar in the world is the caviar of the Caspian Sea. Russia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan border the Caspian Sea, which is the largest lake in the world. The surface of the Caspian Sea is 374,000 square kilometers. km. One of its advantages is the prevalence of 80-90% of sturgeon in it. From sturgeon get caviar, which is a "symbol of luxury". Sturgeon is in fact a prehistoric species of the animal world, surviving to this day since the time of the existence of dinosaurs.

While natural resources define the backbone of most regional economies, the increasing diversifications into manufacturing and vertical linkages of value chains represent tremendous opportunities for economic growth.

SOT, Bijan Namdar Zangeneh, Iranian Oil Minister (Farsi): “There is no obstacle for the American companies' presence. That big obstacle is made by their government for themselves and we have no obstacle. We are close to 110 years of Iran’s presence in the world oil market, we committed to the security of energy supply in the world; we have been loyal to this strategy.” SOT, Bijan Namdar Zangeneh, Iranian Oil Minister (Farsi): “The contract price is around five billion dollars, that is an investment that happens and this is a big investment.
